We are moving and I’m looking for suggestions to my new office. There is a nice size 17”x20” room with a odd storage space 23.6”x4.9” I don't care for the art on the games in storage area, but i love the game-play. I can’t block the windows. There is a possibility that the wall could be removed or opened up, but that would be down the road if it were to happen. I attached a link to the virtual room look around to get an idea of the space, it’s the lower floor.

Personally I don't care for any setup where you can't get the glass off of a game.

    #4203 8 years ago

You've got a great view, that's for sure!

Maybe there's opportunity to make a back to back row in the middle?

    #4204 8 years ago

True, but someone had mentioned just putting a board/block under the front legs to solve the glass issue. Otherwise the dilemma is to have less games. I personally will not block doors, windows (or their frames) but every other square foot is fair game.

Where does the desk go in this new office though?

    #4205 8 years ago

What is everyone's preferred flooring for a gameroom? I will be building in the future and want a floor that would be best for working on games out in the gameroom. Just worried about carpet and dropping solder on it or losing pieces, etc. I plan to have an unfinished area for a workshop, but won't be able to have more than one game in there to work on.

    #4206 8 years ago

If you knocked out the wall you could turn Royal Guard/Phoenix and slide the old timers up to the back next to them. Put Domino next to Jacks Open and you should be good.

    #4207 8 years ago

The room I'm using now has some of that prefab fake laminate stuff. It was already there when I bought the house. I personally hate laminate, but it works well in this situation. I can slide machines around without scratching the floor and keeping it clean is easy. Spills wipe up, solder isn't a problem, and Roomba does the rest.

I agree, I have this issue now with opposing facing machines where I use a two 4x4's chunks. My thought is to have sliders on the back legs of all machines. And when I need to move a blocking machine put sliders on the front and do a little parking lot shuffle action.

AlexF: That's my future vision, to remove the wall, (or cut out a nice arch) and shift the back the row back . I like the idea that Deaconblooze suggested but oddly it didn't gain any more pins?? and makes shifting much more difficult in the back.. Weird.

    Thanks All!

I like carpet and use the cupped magic sliders on the feet if I need to move the pins around. Not having to put on shoes or slippers to avoid freezing feet whenever I want to play makes it worth it.

If I have to solder outside of my workroom, I just throw down some cardboard or a towel.

No wall option... I like the best...

So, this is months away (30 Sept 15 to be exact), but my wife and I will be closing on our new home this year . We are having a developer build a home with about 3200 sq feet. Floor plan for the finished basement is as follows:

    Basement.pngBasement.png

The area where the pinballs are is an additional 15'3" x 9'6" - not part of the 35'4" x 14'2" of the main basement. There will be neither a wet bar nor sliding door. We could not make it a walk-in basement. Things are in their infancy, but for now, this is the plan for the basement. Poor table will be a Valley ZD-8 - acrylic window ball return system and all . Yes, I do plan on keeping the pin collection small; I may add 2 more machines. I am pretty happy with 4; I could make 2 more fit - probably BSD/Sopranos/AFMr.

You may plan for 4, but you will end up with more! They multiply like rabbits!

I give the drum set 6 months.

    Quoted from yzfguy:

I give the drum set 6 months.

It hasn't gone anywhere for 3 years, and I've played on and off since 1996, so I'll give it a bit more than that .

I want my finished basement to have a lot of variety. My wife and I plan to host social parties maybe once every 6 months or so. Pinballs are cool, but not everyone is "oooo ahhhh" about them. That's why I plan to have a couple facets of social entertainment. The pool table will definitely draw the crowd, and then some waiting to play pool will hit pinball.

We're also putting in either a 2 or 4 post lift in the garage for "workshop" days. Got some cool ideas coming down the pipe!

    #4217 8 years ago

Get a bristle board, just about as cheap as entertainment gets. Looks like you have a nice alley by the bar to the left wall. I love mine, it offers passive/social entertain, entertainment, and takes up minimal space (at least mot permanent space).

The unfinished storage area is where the washer and dryer will be going. There will be no "finishing" that area .

You guys crack me up. I'm telling you - I actually HAVE the willpower to say "enough" at 6 pins .

    #4223 8 years ago

Yeah. I am currently pondering how bad we even need a laundry room...

Yeah, not so much really..... that chair stands on the outdoor near the pool, next to the game-room.... anyway, I was still geting ready.... the pillows, blanket, snacks and beer came after.... my wife joined me later and we kept most of the time playing with our dog..... hehehe.... but I surely enjoyed Carl Edwards victory!

Local guy for the DK/DKJR/MB and PacMan 25th anniversary. Found the SI/QIX on Georgia Craigslist at billiards/game room place. Bugged them for over a month to sell and ship to me. They wanted to sell locally. Finally got it! I have never seen another cabaret SI/Qix in nearly three years after picking mine up.

Yes, fine work by Aurich. My wife hates her, which just makes her even cooler for me

I've just realised I took that photo whilst I was half way through doing the JD Deadworld mod. It looks better now.

Finally got my Dirty Donny prints framed and up on the other wall.

I can't wait to prove you and everyone else wrong .

I didn't buy a Valley ZD-8 pool table to sell it later. At 700 lbs going down the stairs, it will come as an amenity with the house before it leaves.

Guys, I know we're pinheads here, but some of us can actually "hold the line". Some of you are happy with 20,30,50, 100 pins. I am happy with 6-7, and I have plenty of room for that many before I start giving up other hobbies for just one.

I respect your love and passion for the silver ball, but seriously, my drumset and pool table aren't going anywhere .

Little update, I added a White Water to the collection. Keep in mind, these are located on the top floor (3rd) in a 1 bedroom 960 square foot apartment. Thank God I have a very supportive Fiance who also loves the hobby. I should be able to stuff 2 more pins in here before having to sell the couches and tv Scared Stiff is coming soon.game room 5 26 2015.jpggame room 5 26 2015.jpgGame room2 5 26 2015.jpgGame room2 5 26 2015.jpg

The tech finally came out and told me the bad news. The genetic rectifyer was blown and it took out all the transducer power bio gel packs. I'd have to sell all my games to get the money to fix it.

Have you tried the aftermarket? Maybe you can find some second-hand parts....
