Don’t want to derail the thread, but looking for a little advice. I’m adding a fireplace wall with an electric fireplace and a recessed TV above.

What lines should I definitely run to this tv?
Is Coax cable even a thing these days?

I don’t know what’s necessary now that everything’s Bluetooth and wireless.

    #22802 72 days ago

It depends on your area, how your TV/data is served up. If you have no cable provider and you are completely streaming then you can run a network cable up there I guess if you must. I personally would do a conduit of some kind so that if you added something and needed to run another wire you could.

Wouldn’t hurt to run coax to a location where you can connect an over the air antenna. If internet goes down and you need to get local news/weather/alerts etc. having a broadcast receiver is critical. https://www.amazon.com/s

You will need an HDMI cable that supports ARC (audio return channel) in addition to being high speed 4K/8k HDR (Dolby Vision) compliant if you are going to connect an A/V receiver to it.

I have run Ethernet cable to mine as we as coax and HDMI.

I don’t know what’s necessary now that everything’s Bluetooth and wireless.

Conduit would be great, if not run Cat6 for an HDMI balun, Cat5 for control (or optical balun), coax for the possibility of a small cable box to tuck behind the TV or use an antenna, 4 conductor and 2 conductor speaker cable incase you go with a passive LCR soundbar to run off of your surround sound receiver, a highspeed HDMI cable and a spare Cat6 and Cat5. I realize it's a lot of wire and you may say to yourself "I'm not gonna do need all that" but...if you can't get back there down the road you're stuck. Plan on your HDMI cable failing down the road (I see it quite often) this is when you will use a balun kit. I don't even run long HDMI cables anymore. Do not rely on Bluetooth or the magic of wireless you will be disappointed. Lastly, I never rely on ARC...it's unreliable such as turning your receiver on in the middle of the night or not returning audio after a software update etc. All things I have experienced in my 20 plus years of doing this professionally. Pm me with any questions you may have on installation or equipment.

Still very much a work in progress, but I’m really happy with the progress I’ve made! (I still have 2 more games to set up and decorate) I bought a new-to-me house with a big unfinished basement. I can’t thank my father enough for his invaluable help!

Love it. You’ve got great ceiling height for a basement. And the blackout ceiling plus hardwood floors looks so good

Any collection with some System 11's in it is top shelf in my books. Nice space!!

In a followup to my previous post.

These faux brick wall panels worked out very well. A little bit of a pain to cut the outlets out, but overall it went really smooth. Only used a brad nailer to attach them to the studs and that was it..simple. I'll probably toy around with adding some hidden strip lights on the vertical wall edges or lighting placement behind the pins to get a little more accent outta it as with the lights off you don't really notice the brick that much.

Added some LED strips to the back of my High Speed and Flash Gordon. The kit from Comet is very easy to install.

Decided to install a rug into my pinball area... didn't anticipate it would take me about 6 hours of work

With the ceiling so low I can't move any machines without folding the head down. And since the basement is so small I had to try and stuff everything on the opposite side and could just barely fit it. Got it done and it feels a lot nicer now but man that was a pain in the butt

I had a TBL and I was surprised how cheaply made that rug was that Dutch included. It was just a gimmick, but I quickly found out I couldn’t have it on the floor and had to roll it up and prevent it from falling apart. Loved that pin tho! Terrific playfield design and stunning to look at with the chrome.

Has anyone done anything cool with playfields on here?

    #22833 62 days ago
    Quoted from pacman11:

I use them as wall hangers with the caveat that anytime you put something up on the wall, make sure you don't damage the playfield. As time goes by, inevitably someone else will need it. That playfield on the left came out of a machine that was restored at the Allentown show 2 years ago. Paid $50 for it. It is going to the York show next week because someone needs it for their restoration and it's better than what they have. It's going for $50. In other words, one man's trash is another's treasure so be careful.

It’s amazing. They remodeled the whole building. Over 100 pins on the first floor, and he’s redoing a bunch of EMs for the lower level. Also has skee ball, hydro thunder, couple race machines, and maybe 30 or so other arcade machines.

    #22841 62 days ago

That's great. Has to be better than the 5 separate buildings before.
