So I’m working on a plan to do kind of an “escape room” theme in my basement. I’ve got a Star Wars themed workshop (no pins, just tools) modelled after Galaxy’s Edge, but I’m thinking of doing my game room as an Egyptian temple using panels from this company:
They kind of lean toward haunted house stuff, but I originally considered doing their Space theme (and I just got an Alien so I may still…) Anyway, I’ve seen them in person and not only are they inexpensive, but they look GREAT up close.

You should see my place. Downtown studio apartment haha.

Don't be too jealous, old houses (pre 1900) have lovely low ceilings: we were so much shorter back then apparently. An added bonus is the occasional flooding ...
Quoted from Rdoyle1978:How does that Cuba Libre game work? I’ve always been fascinated by it
It's a figure 8 for the playfield, manually load a ball and shoot it. Try to get it on your opponents side. There are 3 gobble holes per side, and once the game is over there's a manual leveler to release the balls in the goal.
Only power is from a battery for an led strip in the body and head, but it didn't last super long.

Very cool - I didn’t realize it was kind of a manual game, but I see the balls sitting there in the photo
Hahaha! So true!

I would have expected those to be way more expensive -
I might order some of those for my mad scientist themed bar -

Your photos were kind of the inspiration in the first place! I pivoted to the egyptian theme since that's what everyone got most excited about (and I think their designs in that category far outweigh the others). They are super inexpensive, and *fairly* robust. They can't take a hockey puck without damage (as me how I know), but if you've even just got drywall behind them they'll be fine. I insulated the room so I'm just using them as the main wall cover since it's all background anyway - my main problem is that the framers put the studs 24" apart instead of 16, but since these are 4' panels, it works out pretty well.

It's not that far off! Professor Krassman's big machine is a tv video editor and audio mixer

Kudos for knowing Prof Krassman’s name, and for identifying his machine! I love Mel Brooks in that cameo. “You think we’re sleeping in Düsseldorf? You think we’re taking a nap in Cologne? No! Thank you, herr machine.”

Me too! I’m pretty sure that was the first time I was aware of Mel Brooks, and that led to an amazing adventure tracking down his films. I’m dying to know if he ad-lobbed that scenery.
I was a huge fan of Sid Caesar too (lots of reruns when I was a kid, I guess) and was amazed when I found out he was a writer on that show as well.

Added a payphone to my room. It would work if I had a land line to connect it to. The phone was rebuilt with electronics to block out long distance calls. Typically they were sold to laundromats, "quarter" carwashes and other stores. They were good money makers for independent operators before the cell phones became the norm.

What if you took a set of AirPods and stuck them in the headset ? You could just have it function as an extension of your iPhone, for example. Just thinking of the smooth transition if you pick it up and just like the headset, it crosses over from the phone to the earpiece smoothly

If you want to just hook it up to a Voip line, you can get an adapter (RJ11 to RJ45 like this: https://www.amazon.ca/Gateway-Internet-Adapter-Network-Protocol/dp/B08TBGKRP2) and use something like voip.ms to hook it up. Costs a buck a month for the number, plus usage, which should be minimal. This isn't in my gameroom, but I used that to get this thing working in our office:
You'll also need something like this (https://oldphoneworks.com/products/rotatone-ext-pulse-to-tone-converter) if you want to be able to dial it, since nothing understands pulse dial anymore. It's a neat trick when you get it working though-there are a lot of people that have never dialed a rotary phone.
Quoted from ExSquid:my whiskey barrel finally showed up yesterday !
Congrats! I have one too, mine is cut open to serve as a storage area or bar. The builder even used mine as his prototype for the lazy Susan turntable, so he didn’t charge me for that feature. When I ordered the barrel online, complete with custom engraving on top, I was under the impression it was from Kentucky or TN, but when the owner contacted me regarding shipping, he offered to deliver it personally because he was 30 mins away in Michigan! The barrel was wrapped in plastic and absolutely reeked of booze when I opened it. It smelled great, but was overwhelming. But it quickly aired out and is awesome!

that looks awesome ! Yeah we were getting sick of putting our drinks on our daughters Frozen table down there hahah it was time !
Other corner you can’t see is a 60inch tv and a couple chairs where my daughter can play her switch and stuff like that, and a couple 1up machines.

I've had this wine barrell pub table for a while now. Four stools and the lazy Susan thing on top. The big round table portion has a hefty metal bracket underneath and then rides on four large bolts that screw into what are basically T-nuts sunk into the sides of the barrell. Always gets a lot of comments. Real nice set. And oddly enough, those stools are the perfect height to lift up either end of a pin and slide underneath if needing to adjust leg levellers, lol.

Barrel fans should look into getting one of the original barrel pong units from the 1970s. A few companies made "pong in a barrel table" models
You guys with the BARS in your rooms any of you drink whiskey? I just bought a Smoker kit to try out, and so far.....Meh....not sure if I'm doing it right or how long you need to keep the smoke in the glass before taking the top off. Just going to keep experimenting I guess.

Yes of course, whisky and pinball goes together like horse and carrots
But I have not tried a smoker kit.

Nice setup! I got one of these guys, They have a bunch of different flavors but I don't taste any of it, just the smoke. Going to mess with it some more.

Hey I've played here before!
One might think that the distiller went for a particular flavour and added the right amount of smoked barley or his barrel selection was intentional to allow smoke into the spirit.
But hey, if you're the type of guy who goes to a fine restaurant and put's ketchup on the food, then it may be for you.

It‘s unfortunate that of all the rooms in this thread, that’s the one you’ve been to. I mean, there’s not a whiskey barrel in sight, so what’s the point really?

Only one left on the rack here too, and it's nearly empty.
13 years old though now.
First world problem here, but here goes:
A few years ago I laid down some spendy carpet throughout our upstairs in all the rooms and hallway. One of the upstair rooms has become the pinball room. I got the machines now on this carpet and I cannot stand it. Am thinking of tearing up the carpet in that particualr room so the pins have a solid even surface to sit on. Maybe just some faux wood floors or something. Is it dumb to rip up the expensive carpet in said room for the sake of the pinball machines?

My wife says I suffer from OCD, so in my particular view maybe it would kill me to not have the same flooring in each and ever room, but putting this mental illness aside and thinking reasonably about your topic, doesn’t it make sense to have each room floored the way it suits the purpose of the room best? I guess, in difference to me, you don’t have carpet in the bathroom, so why not having a suiting flooring in the game room?
I dunno, I think carpet is nice for pinball. I mean really the only reason we probably associate pinball with hard floors or short carpet is for durability and cleaning for business establishments. If we don't have to worry about picking up gum or wheeling carts across the floor regularly, carpet is really nice. But I do get the appeal of cool floor patterns and stuff!

Carpet also helps greatly reduce the noise if that's an issue for others in the house.
