Clearing out part of the basement to start a pinball room. Had to move this massive flower cooler. I was happy once we got it to the other side of the basement! Ugh.

Moved 4 of my 6 machines into the unfinished part of the basement. Trying to figure out the best layout for doors and walls.

Doors can really screw up a nice bank of pins!

Any of you guys have a Mrs Pac Man / Galaga anniversary edition in your rooms? The joystick on mine after 3 years is messed up and I have to replace it. I ordered this
    https://www.arcadeshop.com/i/392/joystick-4-way-red-ball.htm

Was wondering how easy/hard it is to replace? Looks to me just plug and play and 4 screws on the panel in the corners need to be removed to get to it.

Yup, pocket doors are great. Also, the less walls/nooks, the better! Plan ahead for outlets, including a few mid wall level outlets to plugin cool LED wallart/neon signs or a couple of monitors. And ultimately, ask yourself the following: will I really need a couch, and should I go for a mini fridge?

Open coin door, three lockdown clips (left, center, right), undo wire connectors from leaf switches, unscrew nuts, remove joystick.

Was really hoping to be finished with new gameroom last weekend, but we are very close after another 18 hours of work. Will finish the ceiling trim, corners and then flooring. One more weekend of work, then the toys come in. Sneak peek…

I’m learning more about carpentry all the time. I didn’t know what a pocket door was. Very cool idea and great utility for tight spaces. Nice job.

Our game room construction is advancing. Looks like the footprint will be 17.5 feet x 12 feet. Some doors are messing things up, so I think I will be able to get a line-up of 5 machines along the long wall. Then I will also be able to get a 6th machine in a corner. Might add some seating/stools and a high top table instead. We are also having a recessed refrigerator in one wall.

It was time to ditch the god-awful pink walls and yellow ceiling in my recently coverted gameroom (remnants from prior owners). You'd think repainting a room would go fast? Ugh. This is a weeks worth of prep and painting. Room looks totally different now. Biggest change is a proper, white ceiling which doesn't cast ugly yellow light everywhere.

Had to paint in 2 parts, as moving the pins out of the room wasn't really an option. I was reminded how painting textured ceilings sends paint splatter everywhere.

Acoustics in this room benefit from sound-absorbing wall panels, as you'll see below.

Here's some before, during, and after pics.

Paint has come a long way the last few decades. Combined paint/primer, etc. This was basically a one-coat job with some light touchup. Amazing, actually. Paint today is basically the consistency of pudding.

Not too shabby. What color/brand paint is that?

    Quoted from DiabloRush:

Lol. It’s true. Quality paint and primer is thick these days. Having painted several rooms in different condos and houses I’ve lived in, it always sounds like a better idea to paint a room yourself, until you start. Then you quickly realize it’s a huge job, and soon you despise paint. I did, anyway. My wife and I rented a condo in FL years ago and it was this salmon color we didn’t like. So we decided to paint it a neutral stone color ourselves. The condo was probably 1,200 sq ft. with high cathedral ceilings. It took 79 months to paint. And we only lived there 2 years.

Seems I have a later build than you do, I was met with this when I opened the coin door. So apparently on mine there are 4 screws in the far corners of the joystick panel that you take out and the whole thing just comes off. Nice and easy.
