    Quoted from Gornkleschnitzer:

Part two of this story. There was something I absolutely HAD to do before I could let Matti rearrange the basement lounge, and it was very much the perfect time of the year to do it.
Shown here is a photo of me and the pinball machine I made - almost exactly twenty years ago, March 7, 2002.
    [quoted image]
As much as things change, some things just never do. Here is a photo of me and the pinball machine I made - today, March 11, 2022.
    [quoted image]
My grandma of course couldn't be in the second picture, but the photo on the desk fills in the memory. So get this... see those angle pieces sitting on the desk in the present-day photo? They are foamcore covered in tin foil. Now look at the older photo, specifically the left rear leg of the machine. Look familiar? While I was digging around the workshop room to see what I was getting with the house, I found my original pinball legs stored up in the rafters. My grandma had saved them for all this time.
As cozy as the room is, I can't really keep games in there. The ceiling is low enough to interfere with raising the playfield for service, and VB! will of course need lots more service, considering it still has only half its wiring. In other news, bringing one game down the stairs taught me the important details I need to iron out before I bring the rest down here. Volcano Blast is as light as an EM without a relay board, so the two of us were able to survive pushing back against gravity to get the game down the stairs on a cart. I will be constructing an entryway winch system for the rest of the games, as doing the same thing with TZ would probably result in catastrophic failure.

Awesome pics. With the passage of time, some things do not change.

I know lots of you guys have drop ceilings. Took my son to a comic book store today that had this on the ceiling. I could see doing this with tracing from a projector. Just some ideas for you folks.

Took my son to a comic con too. Lots of cheap local nerd art. Got a few things I'll hang and post pics of later. Custom art there was almost cheaper than the store. If I ever do a home brew pinball I think I found the guy for the playfield.

Damn! That took some talent and time!

Here's another idea. MY wife and I had originally thought about doing a number of panels of different side art but it's tough to find just one side decal for sale.

I've posted this before but maybe some new guys have never seen it. It's simply an exploded view of an AFM.

Needless to say, this all had to be custom cut to fit 2x4 and 2x2 spaces.

I used to collect arcade cabinets. Back then, I had two game rooms. One in my garage and one in a secondary dining room. All that has changed.

My garage is now a home gym for me and my wife. What qas the primary game room is now the "back" dining room.

What you see now is my gameroom. Only enough room from 3 pinball machines, an Arcade 1Up, and a turntable/stereo set up. It's not much.20220312_101301 (resized).jpg20220312_101301 (resized).jpg

Forgive me if this isn’t the right forum but I’m toying with the idea of converting unfinished storage space in my basement (that has the HVAC) into a finished game room mainly for pins. Is there a list of do/do nots I should consider before having contractors come out to give estimates?

Are recess lights a bad idea due to potential glare? There’s concrete now so should I go with epoxy or tile/laminate (don’t think carpet is appropriate due to no other carpeting in the basement). Thoughts?

This is a great place to ask, if the questions keep coming, you can then point people to a new thread to discuss further. I wanted to make the point that you really want to experiment with where your ceiling lighting will be and see what glare it makes. I put some flat led pot lights in my room and played with where they would go to avoid shining on the glass, I wound up with it about 2 feet behind where I stand. Anywhere above the machine created tons of glare.

Man, some of your houses (let alone game rooms) are massive.
How do you keep them clean and dusted? Cleaning service or what?

I have flush mount, warm flat led lights on dimmers. While playing I shut off the ones on the outside edges of the room. Then put the center room lights on the dimest. I would just never put a light directly over a machines glass. The light over the heads in the pic makes tons of glare. I use it more for working on them or cleaning.

I’d recommend you do it yourself. I didn’t know the first thing about construction but with a $100 streaming service, some tools and some time, my Dad and I finished mine.

For flooring, I did both. Carpet in the game room where you are standing to play and laminate in the rest of the space where I’m sitting.

You’ll want to do a moisture test before putting down laminate. I have a thread where I documented my build that might help answer some questions.

Gotta have work mode and play mode lighting. Use ambient light all around the room for play time. TV's, neon/LED signs, popcorn machine, lava lamps and the pins themselves do a great job. But overhead lighting is a must when working on games.

I had one they're great but we seldom used it so I let it go to a lady in a wheelchair that could wheel up to play that but not fit in front of a pinball in her chair. The music is the best part it sounds like innocent 50's music but actually has some questionable lyrics.
