Gets a bit wild here sometimes. Dunno about your culture, but daking was a thing when we were younger. Usually done when you have your hands full, fighting a fish, or ...playing pinball.

Will you add a Comet to that series? Those carnival pins are fun. Love the Python art too. I’m having my Bad Cats restored and his artwork is unique.

    #19704 2 years ago

They are a bit similar, so i sometimes think of selling either cyclone or hurricane, but can never bring myself to do it.

I have a stack of B/W machines, there's a restored Sorcerer and taxi next in line.

My blacked out JD is coming home soon too (inspired by the HEP one). I like the older single level games too and have a restored Lost World etc.

Cool. Sorcerer is a very fun game, my friend is going to restore his with a new playfield. I’m not sure what the options are for his cab, repainting or what. But the pf will be awesome. Taxi is a classic. I just added a mostly restored Diner with new pf. I love it so far. Fantastic original theme and art. Love 90s pins.

    Quoted from NPO:

It is truly unreal to see how much has changed over the years. Between my last picture and this one, I will have bought and sold GOTPro, TF Autobots, SS, and TS. I definitely missed a couple picture updates here. I am back at WPAFB base housing as I reach the 65% mark of my military career this August, this is the current state of the collection.

AFM hits its 6 year of ownership mark this month. Addams will hit that this July (I think). BSD will be there next January.
Creature looks like it is getting a new home in the very near future. We'll be back to "5" games soon, and that's ok. When I retire and have a full finished basement again, we can consider loading up with more games then. Everything in its time.

Hi there neighbor. You need to come visit us out in Xenia ohio. I am retired Air Force as you soon will be. Cheers!

Yeah have a diner here, but it's players condition so doesn't fit my collection.

Yeah, was even giving Theatre of Magic the evil eye a couple days ago.

Moved some pins to son's old room, awaiting Godzilla so will have to adjust soon and can fit 2 more in there, JP and GnR running solo. After GZ comes, I have room for 3 more and then at max capacity. Threw the theater in for XBOX etc gaming...Have to be selective going forward as all of these are keepers for me right now, unless I pull the theater back row and make room for 3 in there lol...I think the wife would strangle me at that point

Sick rooms! Let me ask you since you have both. I keep going back and forth wanting to trade my DP Premium for a JP or something else on my wish list. JP is a great game and I like the theme a LOT better than DP. What do you think? Stupid or no?

I think the ruleset in JP is hands down the king of my collection right now, most likely to take second to Godzilla soon. Wth DP, TWD, GnR, SW to follow in that order. While DP is really fun and has more flow than JP, JP is the leader of those two choices. If I had to pick JP or DP Premium it would definitely be JP Premium (Premium a must for the Trex Mech, the Raptor Cage, and the helo spinner)

Unless you're in love with it, I'd ditch the pool table and put 2 rows of 4 or 5 pinball games, back to back down the center of the room.
I bought and restored a 1970s table but it ended up being used for a laundry folding table. It was fun for about a week. I got rid of it.

I have a pool table too. Despite saying i didn't want the fucking thing a bunch of times i was asked to store it, so it sat on the roof since the day i got it (except when i took it out and threw off the fork lift on the driveway to make a point).

    Keeps that boat up now.

Darts is a better game than pool.

Pinball is better than both put together and multiplied by a 7 digit prime number.

This was my grandparents' house, grandpa moved into a home recently and agreed to sell off the house at the insistence of at least one of his children. This broke my mom's heart, because not only was she tasked with contacting a realtor, he built the house himself in the 1950s for not just his family but his decades-long photography studio business. It's also far nicer, in many different ways, than the house I've been living in for the past year and a half. Also, the amount of money he wanted for it just happens to be about the same as the current market value of mine, somehow.

The same day my mother sent the preliminary email to our local realtor, I made a huge decision, and I called her up and derailed the plan. The realtor is now working on selling MY current house - deal is basically closed at this point - and my girlfriend and I have been spending evenings packing things up. She was hesitant about the idea of moving at first, but between seeing everything in person and being told the personal history of the house, had a pretty quick change of mind.

Now that the back story is out of the way, here's the more relevant info. The room pictured here was the actual photography stage, full of individually controllable lights and a whole row of switched outlets. For the last 25-30 years, though, it has been a computer room, with a wraparound countertop on the two opposite walls. Some of the computer space will stay as it is, but I will leave a large spread-out section of desktop free to do assembly and board work.

The windows can be covered up for UV safety, the bookshelves are headed for the other half of the basement where Matti gets her library room, and the file cabinets (personal documents plus game manuals) will go where the green cabinet is currently placed on the left. That empty space will comfortably fit five games, with our Night Moves cocktail table fitting between the desktop and the door. Once the glass-top desk is relocated, there will be enough floor space not only to play the games, but to set out a playfield rotisserie if needed. Technically, I could leave out the file cabinets and fit six standard games on that main wall, but one of those games is the homebrew-in-progress Volcano Blast, and I need plenty of space to fit around it and work on it.

I will definitely post another photo once everything is in place!

    #19731 2 years ago

Congratulations! It is a great situation to be able to stay in your family home!

Congrats! Sounds like a win/win all around. My wife loves our current house that we added a massive addition to 20 years ago. It is unlikely one of our kids will want it when that day comes for us, but we would love it if it stayed in the family. I am sure this has helped your grandfather make this life change. Conversion of the studio to an arcade seems like a natural too. Looking forward to you posting some pics, maybe some construction ones too.

    #19733 2 years ago
    Quoted from Zartan:

    Congratulations!

Thanks! The further we get into the move, the more certain I am that it was the right call to make. I'm pretty sure I will be able to lay out the arcade without any major remodel work. I'll post pics of any experimentation and certainly how it all turns out in the end.

That’s a great story. I love it when heirlooms get passed to another generation, and there’s no greater heirloom than a house built by and lived in by your grandfather. Congratulations on being able to keep it in the family.

Definitely will do that for any big things, but most of my experimenting will be with the lesser furniture - pins aren't too fun to rearrange, at least not in the moment. The five games on the wall are pretty much the one non-variable thing, fortunately.

Caught this collection on Reddit before seeing it here - I appreciate how cool you were with a few folks trying to tear down or "question" your collection. Looks great!

Wow thats a great room. I guess I should take pics of the rest of my space. I have a mame arcade I built, full bar and theatre area. If the kids cab ever stop needing their basement playroom I can expand big time!

There's an outlet on the wall right behind it.

I love Grain Belt Nordeast whenever I visit my BIL in MN. For that style of beer, which I lovingly refer to as lawn mower/yardwork/oil change beers, it smokes High Life. Wish it was widely available outside of MN.

    This was my grandparents' house

Part two of this story. There was something I absolutely HAD to do before I could let Matti rearrange the basement lounge, and it was very much the perfect time of the year to do it.

Shown here is a photo of me and the pinball machine I made - almost exactly twenty years ago, March 7, 2002.

As much as things change, some things just never do. Here is a photo of me and the pinball machine I made - today, March 11, 2022.

My grandma of course couldn't be in the second picture, but the photo on the desk fills in the memory. So get this... see those angle pieces sitting on the desk in the present-day photo? They are foamcore covered in tin foil. Now look at the older photo, specifically the left rear leg of the machine. Look familiar? While I was digging around the workshop room to see what I was getting with the house, I found my original pinball legs stored up in the rafters. My grandma had saved them for all this time.

As cozy as the room is, I can't really keep games in there. The ceiling is low enough to interfere with raising the playfield for service, and VB! will of course need lots more service, considering it still has only half its wiring. In other news, bringing one game down the stairs taught me the important details I need to iron out before I bring the rest down here. Volcano Blast is as light as an EM without a relay board, so the two of us were able to survive pushing back against gravity to get the game down the stairs on a cart. I will be constructing an entryway winch system for the rest of the games, as doing the same thing with TZ would probably result in catastrophic failure.

I'm like your Grandma. Anything with any meaning, I can not throw away..
