    Quoted from yaksplat:

I would plan on setting up ceiling outlets in certain areas though over areas that might be islands.

Yup, ceiling outlets are almost a must for centered located machines.
For me, in the basement one 20A for the machines in the center did
the trick, so I'm doing the same upstairs..

I don't know if I have the most beautiful game room but it is very efficient. There should be a contest for most densely packed playable machines.

I have seven in a 9'x13' room, all playable and repairable. It is so compact that it is kind of hard to take a picture of.

Here's the rest of the room as it presently looks.
It might seem like a mess, but nothing what it looked like in early
Fall before I cleared out one of the barns to make enough space
to move most of the machines to be able to work around the remaining..

Most people may think of a couple of tables and chairs in the room.

Who needs doors and windows when you could have more machines??

This is such a Ron Swanson thing to say...except he'd add a meat pit.

    #16856 3 years ago

    Noob question.

Why the outlets in the ceiling?

Why the outlets in the ceiling?

How do you get power to a group of 6 machines away from the walls and not have an outlet in the floor?

Smoker and grill are outside. Smoke is no good for the machines. Although I'd rather have a machine that smells like pork butt and hickory than one reeking of tobacco.

Why not? Trust me, the more outlets the better. I have installed well over two hundred in my basment and I'm probably only using 2/3's of them at the most but the rest are there if I need them.

Your comment about installing 200 outlets in your basement had me curious about your collection so I looked it up. All I can say is HOLY SHIT! That collection must be a sight to behold...especially the ultra rare King Kong. Congratulations on amassing such an incredible collection.

I’m in the process of building a house and I bought my first pin a month ago. I currently own 3. Maybe I should think about future pin collection expansion. Lol

    Regarding electrical outlets:

I started out with 70 outlets in my game room build-out. Put them closely as it would be helpful once you start to re-arrange the room. Good thing I left the ceiling open and painted black...I have added another 24 since the walls went up. The need for power with neon signs, various appliances like TVs and sound systems, unusual lighted signs in many spaces, and gadgets that seem to use wall-wart power supplies.

I put all the pinball outlets 42 inches above the floor so no cords can be seen, and now I wish I would've added a few more in the bathroom walls. Finding things that can be installed there.

I have 100 amp service running the entire room. Since I have used LEDs exclusively for everything except neons, there's plenty of power for expansion. Plan on using LEDs for everything and you can't go wrong.

Previous homeowners had wood lattice on the ceiling and spray painted the ceiling black likely to hide how ugly the wires, pipes, and nails look. You can see how it screamed 80’s, very dungeon like, dark and old.

Mold issues necessitated the entire basement be gutted.

Carpet really wasn’t an option and we didn’t want tile so we thought about vinyl flooring. Picked up 800sq feet of vinyl flooring at Lowe’s for $160 delivered. There was an error on the app which had it listed as .14 per sq foot where the website had it for 1.59 Per sq foot. They honored the lower price.

Walls painted with white drylok really brightened up the space. Overhead LED lights installed. Light grey coat put on wall. Beam and posts painted black. Looks much better.

Was looking at your pictures and noticed the carpet. In the room I'm having built it will just be concrete when I take ownership and I've been trying hard to decide on the floor type. I want to go carpet for the noise cancelling and to easier on the feet. I've been looking at very similar carpet as this for its durability. Did you have this carpet put down? If so, do you know what kind of pad is under it? I'm looking for a pad that is thick enough to be easy on the feet but also "non-spongy" enough to make moving pins on in using my escalara somewhat easy and also dense enough to not get permanent indentations from the pinball feet.

It’s carpet tiles I laid them myself .Carpet tiles have a solid rubber type bottom so I think it’s right what your looking for .easy on the feet yet sturdy .Also if u stain a area with something just cut out a tile or 2 n replace .There’s a glue you just trowel on floor then lay them down it’s real easy .

Not a game room but a game room bath. The old silvered walls were about 25 years old. Time to match it up with the rest of the game room.

Just waiting on the light fixture to come.

Much better looking than that "bowling shoe" paint scheme Northwest used back in the 90s in that towel. I do think that NW compass logo was the best Northwest ever had however.

With both my wife and I working remote, and our kids being virtual...I lost my office to my HS sophomore daughter.

So our game room is doubling as my office. The ST Pro pin is just out of frame on the left next to where I sit.

I had typed that sentiment myself, “Hey, hey, what can I do, I got a little woman who lets me play pinball In the Evening...that’s a Whole Lotta Love, she let’s me play it in Good Times and Bad Times, but always asks How Many More Times I’m gonna play before her turn. Your Time is Gonna Come, I say. Thank You, she replies.” But I thought I’d get eye rolls!

Cool John Schneider story. A friend of mine hung out with him for a night at the Baccarat tables in Vegas during Safari Club. Said he was just they way you described him. Cool guy.

Your game room is pretty ok too.
