    Quoted from RetroGamerJP:

Out of all the driving games I have had in and out of the basement... Crusin' Blast has been THE family favorite. It's such a wild ride and even non-driving game fans love it.

I have a pair of moto gps, Mario karts and cruisin blasts. The cruisin blasts are the newest addition. They get a lot of love but the GP’s get quite a bit of competition from the adults.

    Quoted from d0n:

We had a professional photographer come and take pics recently. Personally, I think his pics and/or editing are terrible. The colors aren't right, the pics are all too bright and the games are "ballooned" and made wider by some weird lense.

WOW - good pics / bad pics ... it all looks fantastic. That's quite a collection!

Sorry if i'm dragging off topic, but after a morning googling i still am not too much nearer.

have built a dance floor and partyu space but would like to either use my high score kiosk, or allow people to log onto a virtual jukebox to play music.

looked at jukeboxes but they are not what i'm after, then googled to use my touch screen kiosk before getting to apps.

Apps look the business, but they all seem to rely on spotify. that's OK, seems i only have to have a monthly sub, but everyone who is here has to download the app, i don't want to give my password to the wifi out at parties if they haven't got datta and i don't want people left out.

Can you guys tell me a link or discuss here if that's ok your experiences with this stuff?

Been all morning so far and only scratched the surface because i don't know what to search for.

    picture again just to reward.

Sure thing, I'll shoot you a PM...

I'm also into slot machines. Your pictures show the mechanical machines very well but it appears that you also have a row of Bally EMs? Do you have any photos showing them?

Mine aren't as uniform as yours as I have a variety of cabinet styles so some are short and some are tall. Bally made a lot of different models in the short time they produced them.

Thru some color changing leds in the pockets. Kinda fun glow when no one is playing20200914_205815.jpg20200914_205815.jpg20200914_205913.jpg20200914_205913.jpg20200914_205925.jpg20200914_205925.jpg

I would be interested to know about those slots too.

    #15908 3 years ago

    some slots groups on facebook:
    Slot Machines For Sale https://www.facebook.com/groups/bigelow9285/
Slot Machine Enthusiasts (Buy - Sell - Trade - Repair - Discuss) https://www.facebook.com/groups/335981553265504/
Antique Slot Machines Trade Stimulators USA https://www.facebook.com/groups/1049944365142521/

good places to browse to at least see what is out there and what the market is like. As with other arcade stuff, prices on brand new machines are the highest. Prices on the oldest and most collectible machines are also rather high.
Key is to find the machines in the slump that are no longer wanted by operators, and minimally desired by collectors.

    Quoted from d0n:

I applaud your creativity and your need to rinse glasses! LOL

Its an important concept for a bar/brewery if you think about it. If a glass is not "beer clean" then you get foamy beer and off flavors too. Rinsing your glass and cleaning it properly prevents something inside the glass called nucleation sites where the CO2 in the beer can come out of solution resulting in foam. It also helps with 16 (well technically 18 if you include the two tap keezer) taps going where you rinse your glass between tastings. I have some crazy friends who mix my chocolate porter with an amber ale to make black and tans, but those are the exceptions. I'm the crazy dude who takes a nitro imperial stout at 10.4% and adds a shot of bourbon whiskey to it from the liquor dispenser. Did I mention the leather couch is also a futon?

    Quoted from Pinkitten:

Love the booths! I would love to add 2 of those to my basement. If I had room! I bet you pour a mean pint.

I gotta say my wife really had a gold idea to have restaurant booths downstairs. not only aesthetically pleasing, but utilitarian to add more seating to the entertainment space.

I'm working on something like this right now too, only with Music Videos stored locally on one of my servers. djreddog has software that allows people to choose songs, but I think they stopped selling to the consumer market and only sell it to DJs at a crazy expensive price. He was looking into a replacement at one point, but I'm not sure if he found anything or not. I haven't gotten a chance to talk to him in awhile.

I've been playing with Media Monkey recently which seems alright, but not perfect (at least for video). If I find something good, I'll definitely let you know and please do the same if you run across something that works well.

Still searching. I tested Media Monkey but it's nowhere near the ease of use as Jukebox Jockey for my guests.

Assuming you have wifi the easiest way to do this is to use a Sonos Connect ran through whatever stereo system you have. Mount a tablet on the wall and have it run the sonos app so anyone can walk up to it and pick a song. You can subscribe to Deezer or Tidal through the app and have unlimited music. I have five seperate Sonos Connects in my house (One for my high end tube setup in the living room, one for the home theater in the basement, one for the pinball room in the basement, one in my bedroom, and one in my daughter's room) and they are absolutely wonderful.

I'm planning on using a tablet running Emby for controlling audio and video in my gameroom. I have everything running from a server locally. I don't rely on any cloud based media. I like things to still work if there are internet issues.

    Thanks guys, have found a few products that work with spotify premium and seem to do what i want. After a day reading reviews i've got down to these two;

    https://outloud.dj/

    https://festify.rocks/

I'm not sure on the development stage of either and whether they are still working on them, or whether spotify premium is still working towards this solution or they have gone another route. I don't have enough music stored to be able to cater for others tastes, so allowing people to access my stored music wouldn't work.

I DO like the idea of the song voting that both these apps deliver. But still it relies on people haveing the app on their phone, or i guess i could set it up on the kiosk?

I'm glad i asked here because i'm a technical neanderthal and i knew there'd be some switched on people here.

Still working away on our game room but getting closer to getting it finished. Getting there. If you're ever in St Louis stop by www.StLouisEscape.com within the next month we're hoping to add JJP new game and Avengers.

I want to make the movie poster thing with the TV screen, and with those lights around it, it really looks cool.

I did some checking and it looks like there are at least a few different sites where you can download both old and new movie posters. 1080p would be OK, 4k would be great!

It will be ~three more years. I have to finish my stint in Hong Kong first. It gives me lots of time to plan and finish restoring a bunch of pins. You’ve set a high bar!

    #15928 3 years ago

Matt: With an old bank branch to use as your backdrop, have you thought about a theme for your game building? Possible considerations could be the inside of Gringots’ bank as depicted in the Harry Potter series or an old-time bank primed for robbery as one might envision in the Kingpin pinball game. Of course you could open up your options by choosing a completely unrelated theme.

It’s actually a nice place. It was a three bedroom/2 bath place. But they knocked down walls and now it’s one master bedroom, a nice office/bedroom and an open kitchen/dining/living room on the 29th floor. Perfect for us! I love HKG (other than not having my pins and jukes)!
BTW, if I was here solo I’d have pins. I could comfortably put a half dozen in the place!

Yeah don't get me wrong, I've been to Hong Kong, great place, friendly people. But pretty concerning with the new laws from the mainland

    #15938 3 years ago

I know this isn't the arcade but several of the holes on this mini golf we're building are themed around 80's 90's video games. Check out the centipede inspired hole and frogger. We also have a pinball hole where you play pinball with a golf ball but that isn't done yet. Anyway check it out.

So we have an escape room in the front - pincade in the middle - 80's themed mini golf in the back

Once I get the pinball hole done I'll upload a few more. I've shared pics like these before but now you'll notice its further along with the borders painted.

Yes; I too visited Hong Kong several years ago when I was touring with a band. It is a wonderful place.

I recall one of our guides apologizing to me for the odor that was coming off of the water, which she blamed on the pollution from the mainland. I said, "Listen, I'm from New Jersey. You guys have nothin' on us!"

For those who have finished their own rooms- I’m about to drywall. Is ceiling insulation + drywalling the ceiling enough to dampen the sound coming up to the next floor?

I keep reading about double layer drywall with Green a Glue in between, but I think it’s overkill. I’m not looking for silent, just quieting it a little.

This probably wont help but I have a drop ceiling with no insulation above it and I cannot hear any game activity upstairs.

Don't bother with that level of effort. It's not as simple as just doubling up. To properly isolate, you actually would need to frame up another ceiling that is isolated from the other trusses above it - in other words, the drywall you install is added to a new ceiling that is detached/decoupled from the one above it. Another way to mitigate this is to purchase isolation hardware that mounts the drywall in a way that decouples it from the floor above. Like I said ... too much work and others that have done it have shared that the gains in sound control are not "worth it". Pack in as much insulation as you can and then drywall it - done. Don't forget to address your door. Surprising how much sound can leak through a door that does not seal well or is cut too high on the bottom

Attached is an image of how this is achieved on a wall - think it's called "staggered stud" approach. Ceiling is a little different but the outcome is the same, unless you spend crazy money, you'll make the process harder, longer and more expensive and not get a huge benefit

My theater has triple drywall green glue in between with a floating ceiling. You can blast the theater and still not hear it. Arcade just has single drywall and you can hear it on the floor above but it’s not too bad but it is an example of what you were asking.

5/8" drywall will help a bit over 1/2" if that's what you were going with.

Thanks guys. Yeah, I was planning on 5/8” drywall with fiberglass insulation. Will the insulation even help? Again, not looking for silent, just dampen it down to a mild background noise.

Insulation helps on mid/high frequencies. Absolutely add it. Low frequencies are best managed by complete decoupling. That's what @ Waldo did. Works but expensive

Years ago, I ran across someone building a home theater and wanted to soundproof the walls. They went with shredded denim jeans/jackets. I recall them saying that it worked better than any commercially available products.

The best analog that is available most places is rock wool. Great sound deadening and fire rating properties. There are a few companies that marketed used denim, but those supplies of used textiles are actually getting tight.

@shirkle, How tall are your ceilings? A suspended ceiling can't be beat on a db/$ rate. The ceiling tiles i put in my theater and music room are 1" thick and have a very high attenuation rating. The key to sound deadening is decoupling the ceiling from the next floor. Suspended ceilings do this very well. There are commercial systems that suspend drywall, if you must have a smooth ceiling. They are much cheaper than double drywall/ green goo systems.

My gameroom has a traditional drywall ceiling. If it's dead quiet on the main floor, you can faintly hear pops on the room directly above. I play most nights after I tuck my wife in, and she doesn't complain about noise. She is one room lateraly from right over my pins. If your pins aren't right below someone's bed, you'll be fine.
