I can definitively check this evening.
Just as a side note, I absolutely loved the sega gamegear growing up, so its really neat to hear from someone who actually helped produce games for the system. That's rad! Are you ok with the idea of them being emulated? Just wanting to make sure I'm reading your post correctly as one of curiosity, and not dislike for the idea of what a retropie is.

My army of lawyers is preparing to repel onto your house from my black helicopters as we speak...just kidding.

In general, I am against pirating of software/music/etc. However, in this case, the company that I developed these games for has been out of business for over 20 years - so it's not like it is taking legitimate sales away from anyone.

I'm happy that some people can still enjoy these games - especially people who never got a chance to see them originally.

Does your system include GameBoy games as well? I did several games for the original (non-color) GameBoy also. I also did stuff for SegaCD, PS1/PS2/PS3, N64, GameCube, PSX, Xbox & Xbox360.

Some of these games came out great. Others...umm...not so much.

Speaking of drinking, anyone else have a "Car Bar" in their collection?
    [quoted image]

Reminds me of a restaurant/bar in Monroe, Mi called Pete's Garage. You could eat inside of old fashioned cars. They also had pinball machines upstairs. I wonder if that place is still around. Last went there in early 90's, I think.

Sadly I wasn't able to find a good collection of original gameboy roms to use, though I do very much enjoy the system. With my current button setup, I found that it wasn't set up well to emulate disc based games and N64 games, so I left those out.
Before I got into collecting arcade cabinets and pinball machines, I was very much into collecting retro video games. I collected for most the ones we have mentioned so far, with an emphasis on PS1 and N64, as those really represented my childhood. I actually collected a full North American release N64 set, as well as full NA virtual boy set as well. I still have a modest retro video game collection, but nothing too crazy compared to before.

Here is a shot of the (released) games that I worked on.

Most of them I was the lead programmer on, some of them I was just one of several programmers, and a couple of them I just did some testing/bug fixing.

I've played quite a few of those! That's awesome that you had a hand in making all of those happen. Just off the top of my head, Beetle Adventure Racing! on the N64 stands out, as I've put a decent amount of hours into that one. Thanks for sharing!

That's really neat to be able to show off your portfolio like that.

So are these "developer" versions that they give you when you complete a game, or did you have to pay for all of these?

I only tried LSD once, but when I did I played nanotech warrior. That’s pretty much all I did the entire time, great game!

    Now that's funny...

I just looked, I have an extra Nanotek Warrior T-shirt (never worn). If you want to PM me your address I will send it to you, no charge. Least I can do for the one Nanotek Warrior fan still left.

I did receive these for free, but they are the same versions as the regular ones. Though many of them are signed by the whole development team. At one of the companies that I worked for, that was a special thing we did at the release party. The whole team would line up and we'd sign the games for everybody. Some of the games had posters or shirts or hats or something too. Fun times.

Yes, Beetle Adventure Racing was one of the most "pure fun" games that I worked on. Anyone of any age could pick it up and in 15 seconds was smiling.

I did the multi-player "Beetle-Battle" mode on that one. I had just finished F-1 World Grand Prix II (which actually only got released in Europe) and the Beetle team was behind schedule, needing everyone to finish the main game. So I did the multi-player modes and I think the whole game turned out great.

This is very cool. Thanks for sharing your stories.

Sega CD holds a special spot in my heart. Night trap, sewer shark... what was it like to program for that?

It was not a lot of fun. The Sega Genesis was pretty sweet, but making the CD stuff actually accomplish anything was a PITA. The one game that I did on SegaCD (that was released) was a tank game called "Rapid Deployment Force : Global Conflict". It came out near the end of the SegaCD's life and sold very poorly.

We also did "Penn & Teller's Smoke and Mirrors", but even though the game was finished, it was never released - long story there (Google "Desert Bus" if you are interested). I only did a little bit of testing/debugging on that game though.

I also did a Pinball game very early on for the PS1, but the company folded before it was finished. I think it would have been pretty good too. It was still in the prototype stage, but I had a working plunger, pop bumpers, slingshots, drop targets, and flippers. I even had two ramps and multi-ball all working, and I was very happy with how the physics felt. Too bad it never got finished.

Not so much a gameroom, but more so my current lineup. It goes Baywatch, Super Mario Bros, Monopoly, Terminator 2, Star Wars Trilogy, and then a Star Wars themed retropie powered arcade cabinet.

A game room wouldn't be complete without a Mold-A-Rama. Does anyone have 1?
    [quoted image]

I know there are a couple of working ones in a certain collection here in the L.A. area.

I still remember getting a red pagoda at Grauman's Chinese Theater and a green Frankenstein head at Universal Studios when I was a kid.

Found an interesting article about the machines here - https://www.atlasobscura.com/articles/mold-a-rama-archive-retro-plastic-mold-a-matic

The official website of the company that bought out the technology https://mold-a-rama.com/ stills operates quite a number of the machines.

That’s how I got Star Wars trilogy. A good friend of mine wanted a fish tales, so I sold it to him so I could buy Star Wars trilogy from another friend. Then that friend is using his money from the sale of swt to buy a sttng. So in a round about way all three of us got pins from higher up on our wanted list.

Oh wow, that's awesome! I love Penn and Teller just for desert bus. I love explaining that to people who aren't familiar with it. Most of the time they think I'm making it up, lol.

Are you aware of the "desert bus for hope" charity?

Yes, pretty cool idea. Nice that the work to develop it wasn't a total waste.

In the back of the manual for my Sega CD game (RDF : Global Conflict) there is an ad for the "upcoming" Smoke & Mirrors game.

Beetle Adventure Racing was the best. I spent so many hours on that. I just played an emulated version last week! It brought back so many great memories. Great work!

You should post in the retro gaming thread. I bet you’d get lots of cool questions.

Beetle racing might be the best racing game on N64.

anyone need a robot for their gameroom?

Few additions and subtractions to the lineup. Still waiting impatiently for my TBL to ship. That will be it on pins for awhile. Would love to find more true arcade games like an Off-Road, Super Mario Bros, Joust, BBH HD or many other ones but the Arcade1ups were cheap and kids seem to love them. The Valve Index VR machine is crazy fun. Also added the video poker and slot machine to the main bar area. I blame COVID for all this.

Hi punkin . I've spent a lot of time on both over the years, and TWD is superior. Aerosmith has its appeal for sure, and it's fun & challenging. But I have to give the nod to TWD.

I've not seen a single episode of the show, so you know I'm not talking as a "theme fan." Of course, they are completely different games, and tastes vary, but there are reasons why TWD is rated far higher in the ratings/rankings.

Thanks mate. i also have never made it more than 10 mins into the first episode, but i like pinball. If it's better than Aerosmith, that's a fine recommendation. Is it a flowing game like Aerosmith, or trap and shoot like ACDC?

Me too. It will be at least two years though. I’m still over in Hong Kong.

    Quoted from Waldo:

Few additions and subtractions to the lineup. Still waiting impatiently for my TBL to ship. That will be it on pins for awhile. Would love to find more true arcade games like an Off-Road, Super Mario Bros, Joust, BBH HD or many other ones but the Arcade1ups were cheap and kids seem to love them. The Valve Index VR machine is crazy fun. Also added the video poker and slot machine to the main bar area. I blame COVID for all this.

What a man cave. Complete with secret Tron entrance? I’m so wanting to redo my basement now! Thanks so much for sharing.

Quite the set up waldo! How many square feet in your man cave?

The entire basement is around 3500 sq feet but also has a gym and a Jack n Jill type bathroom. But the basement is all mine. Wife gets the other two floors to do with as she pleases. Although I was trying to annex the gym to add machines and somehow that got shot down. Weird how that works.

The gym is worthwhile as long as it’s being used.
