    Quoted from HarrieD:

I agree. I have -next to my three dedicated cabinets (in NL these are very hard to find) two Neo Geo generic cabinets. One has the monitor in the portrait orientation, the other at landscape. Problem solved, more room for pins and arcade stuff.
I don't like those arcade1up cabs but I guess they serve a purpose. And hey, if you must pay like 75 dollars for a cab with a game (licensed I guess), LCD monitor, speakerset and a control panel this a fokking cheap deal.

Dont want to derail the thread further, but do you know any good européan hyperspin or similar manufacturers?
I'm thinking of getting an extreme home arcade, which are prizy, but even more so with freight and vat.

Is there any similar european product?

The way you alternated the wood end grain makes it look like individually stacked blocks.

I considered staining or burning letters in the blocks to spell words like game room, pool hall, pinball, etc. I haven't glued them together so they spin now.

Frankly, I'm almost more impressed that someone actually has a snooker table these days, which is awesome.

It's actually just a 4x8 table. My dad bought a snooker ball set when he bought the table and thought I'd teach my wife snooker tonight during happy hour

    Quoted from Luckydogg420:

I have multiple arcade1up’s. For years I’ve just had a full sized 4-player MAME with 20000 games. Problem is when people are over the guys would play golden tee in between a 4 player game on pinball. Then everyone else just stood around. I also have furnace ducts that give us limited head room along one wall that full sized games will never fit under.
Now I have a golden tee arcade1up for the guys. A Pac-Man because of the 4-way joystick. Mortal Kombat because the 5 button layout is unique and I hate playing it on a 6 button layout. My street fighter cab I modded with a Pandora’s box so that it now has about 50 for the best fighter games.
Usually we play nba jam on my full size cabinet because I think the arcade1up 4 player cabs look cramped.
The main reason for multiple cabinets imho is for multiple people to play and different control setups appropriate for those games.

thanks for the explanation, now I understand. Learned something today. I never realised that Joystick and button setup was important with these machines.

I knew the difference in some joy sticks but I had no idea that the button pattern was different.

If you do that, i vote letters on all 4 sodes. So one side says gameroom, otherside pinball, etc.

So how do you play snooker with pockets? Now that is a MOD that needs to be made.

    #15159 3 years ago
    Quoted from Viggin900:

So how do you play snooker with pockets? Now that is a MOD that needs to be made.

I believe snooker still uses pockets they are however by regulation smaller opening pockets and a larger 10’ table.

    #15160 3 years ago
    Quoted from Viggin900:

So how do you play snooker with pockets? Now that is a MOD that needs to be made.

Snooker is played on a 10' table with pockets. Pocket width is exactly 1/8 inch wider than the balls allowing it's passage by a 1/16" on each side.

Billiards is a point system game also played on a 10' table but without pockets.

Ya, most people with 1000 games in one have to compromise on game play experience. The monitor will usually be horizontal instead of vertical, or the game will have unique controls like the star wars flight yoke. Most multicades will try to do a best case scenario with 6 buttons, a spinner, trackball and lightguns all in one machine, which can be confusing for someone new to your game room.

Here’s my 10-15 year old MAME cabinet. (I know so much more now)

funny to think about the there was a discussion back in the days within these companies what the best button layout would be. The buttons ergonomic officer would have a great time With current consoles and PC games all is the same.

    #15163 3 years ago

The different game controls added to the uniqueness of the arcade and was part of the fun. Race car games, motorcycle games, trackball, spinners, On and on, all of these differences make arcades more fun to me then some console games. I like new game experiences not just another version of call of duty.

Some arcades are just not practical in a home arcade. I bet most 10000 in one arcades can not play hang glider well. Talk about unique.

I wish companies would bring back the spinner. I’m making an arkanoid arcade machine just to have that cool dial to play those types of games. Fooey on arcade 1up, I bought preorder all 6 of the launch titles , after I built 2 of them, I sold all of them. Then bought the star wars one because Star Wars . Personally, I’d rather sacrifice space and be patient and put a little more money into owning original arcade machines plus hone the craft of fixing them.

Don’t get me wrong, I am very glad for those who don’t have the time or resources to do original cabinets. Arcade 1up are a niche product that many of semi arcade enthusiast are getting a lot of fun out of, and I applaud those who are modding them to their taste, and need them for the space requirements they have, but I still hate the build quality and their size, except for one player games, .that’s not too bad. I finally have a Star Wars cabaret sized machine that Atari never built back in the day.

I like how on the MK cabinet they have the moves for each character. Probably the reason I haven't played those games in years is not having the moves readily available. Sux to have to go online. Takes you away from the expierence. And playing MK on a 6 button layout is confusing to me.

That monitor bezel with all of the moves is aftermarket. I just found the graphic online, sized it and printed it off. Another great solution is to get it done on a topper, but unfortunately I don’t have the height where the games are sitting.

This pic I found online has a nice one. eBay is a great resource for mods.

Slowly stepping up the wall decoration game with a new (Spidey) backglass. If you have old ones laying around, hang them up or take them to a show. They make great wall hangers!

Thinking about rearranging. What is the minimum space you should have between two rows of pins facing each other? I have about 4' in between.

    #15169 3 years ago

You need enough room to get the glass off.

Thanks! Those are rules for “pin golf” from back when I hosted pinball parties and each game had a specific goal to try to achieve using the fewest balls you can. If you achieve the goal on ball 1, you score a 1. If it’s on ball 3, you score a 3, and so on. The lowest total score wins! It’s fun for non-pinball people and kids because the goals are specific to each pin, not just high scores over and over. My friend Jake introduced us to that game.

    You got it!
My uncle's friend bought it from a mall in the early '90s. My uncle then bought it from him. Then my other uncle got it from my first uncle. Then I got it from my other uncle.

I recently restored it, but it's actually in fabulous shape.
Could use a capacitor kit for the monitor, but everything actually works no problem. And it's a pretty fun game to boot.

I think i could use some help. I have been talking to the street artist and the carpet guys about moving the seating area down next to the games room.

    seating1 (resized).jpgseating1 (resized).jpg

I had a drunken inspiration (the best kind) last night and thought there's room there between those tables for a dance floor (was dancing alone at the time). So now i'm researching portable dance floors. seems feasible, they size it at 4' sq per person, so if i was to do one 10' x 12' it would fit well, still give me seating room with carpet around it etc and fit twenty people dancing.

I could do with some advice from those who have laid one of these kit style all weather floors on the pitfalls etc, not that i will be doing the laying, just good to know what to look out for.

Yeah had surgery this morning. the area is only used when there is a gathering, i have a social area at the front with 4 pins and seating for six, that's what we use during the week. I have 5200sq' to fuck around with here, i can spare 80'sq.

Not a pic of games, but a nice upgrade! I added a 24k btu split unit to my basement/gameroom since the airflow down there has always been pretty bad. Such a massive improvement, instantly worth it. Plus with the window unit gone I can probably make space for one more game.

I need to invest in a couple of those as my basement has no HVAC. How much for the unit and installation?
