    I am a lucky guy no doubt. My wife fully supports the madness!

    Well, my wife seems to be drawing a line at three. I have room for 5 and could make room for more, but we're not rich either so.. I guess I can't complain.

    Look up “Overton window”. You need to ask for 8 machines so that eventually 5 seems reasonable.

    It’s changed a fair bit over the last year and a half that I’ve been in the pinball hobby. I’m quite happy with where it’s at, and am also excited to see what pins the future brings.

    Awesome gameroom and pins, but why do people take pics with the games off?

    Not my Game Room but how about office? My office I made room for 2 when we remodeled...Sharing my other passion with my employees!! Saving up for a second one to go next to Tomcat...had to have a Tomcat back to remind me what game got me into this crazy hobby

    To me a game room thread is more about the actual room. I know what an IJ or WW looks like when it is on.
    I come here to get inspiration and see what people have done with flooring, walls, lighting, furniture’s and such.
    But of cause it does not hurt if the games are on but it is not a necessity for me at least.

    Agreed. Some people on this thread believe that a game room is a pinball collection ONLY. The OP asked for pics of game rooms but seems that's ignored. Maybe another thread should read "Let's see pics of pinball machines" which would be much more appropriate.

    Variety, folks. Think variety.

    While you both have way more than i will ever have, if "games" arent on in a game room walk through, you are doing your post a disservice. I prefer lights vs shadows in a gameroom.

    I do agree, seeing some of the "non pin" stuff is really nice. I mean, we all have pins, that's why we are here. I can appreciate a solid pin line-up too but seeing the other stuff is what I enjoy. ( Since that was always MY goal for a game room ).

    I thought a garage arcade would't work until I see you live in california. Must be nice.

    Quoted from Viggin900:

    Depends on where in CA. In the Central Valley a garage temps can range between 32 and 120F between winter and summer... but a halfway beefy mini-split and some insulation can make it very comfortable.

    I’ve also seen several garage rec rooms in this area that are simply primarily used spring and fall. The temp extremes probably only total up to about 3 months out of the year.

    #13828 4 years ago

    "The garage game room" doesn't exist here in New England, as far as I can tell. I have yet to run across one, and I travel in a fairly large arc of pinheads. I imagine its a combination of:

    we generally have basements;
    it's too cold in the winter;
    it's too hot/humid in the summer;
    they generally aren't really climate controlled;
    they aren't generally "finished" i.e. its rare in anything but recent/new construction to see an attached garage that is sheet-rocked/finished floor/etc.;
    and probably, most importantly;
    Most would rather park their vehicles in the security and comforts of a garage rather than have to clean a foot of snow off, or burn your behind getting into a 150 degree interior.

    I like the idea of it, and I'm not doubting they exist here, it's just that I have never seen one.

    There's also kind of a weird "stigma", seemingly, about doing anything, sans mowing the lawn/tending to flower beds/performing general maintenance/etc., in full view of your neighbors or passers by here, i.e. in the front yard, in the suburbs of N.E.

    I can't really explain it, and it sounds weird, but there is a perceived trashiness to hanging out in the front yard. I don't really agree with it, it's kind of just the way it is. Ask other New Englanders, and I'll bet they'll agree with me.

    Example being: Growing up, there were neighbors at the end of the street that had patio furniture set up in the front yard, and they would just hang out right out front there most days of the week, and just wave at cars that drove by. Their home was beautifully maintained, the lawn was manicured, they were friendly people; basically, great, perfect neighbors. But because they hung out in the front yard, all the other neighbors thought they were a little "off".

    I don't know what it is, and maybe I'll never understand it because I grew up in the yankee suburbs, but nobody would ever have, say, a family cookout, in the front yard. Maybe it's a privacy thing?

    Anyways, there's todays lesson in New England Connecticut Yankee weirdness. Now back to your regularly scheduled programming.

    FWIW, I'm starting a basement remodel next week, and it's been inspired by a number of the masterpieces I've seen here. Will update when finished in a month or two.

    #13829 4 years ago

    I llive on the freezing cold prairies and have seen a dozen or so garage gamesrooms. It ranges from -35° in the winter to +35° in the summer. As long as the garage is heated and the garage doors are insulated, it's fine. I've been in a couple during the summer without air conditioning though and it's not the best. Gets a little sweaty fast.

    I have insulated the garage and installed heating and air. I am good to go year round. I will send some better pics later and you couldn’t even tell it was a garage.

    The whole house looks like this. People already knew I was crazy in neighborhood.

    A lot more walk in traffic with the garage.

    .

    I only know of one. He left the garage door in place and built a wall behind it and insulated it so that when he sold the house he could just pull the wall down and there would be a garage again. He eventually sold the house and bought a bigger place.

    I bought it from Tony O at Betson. He is great to deal with. He has got me Battle pod, Jurassic Park, Moto GP all at reasonable prices with great service. Everyone talks crap about Betson but he was able to beat pricing for game exchange on Pacman battle royale and Moto GP's for me. If anyone needs his contact let me know. Really good guy to deal with.

    Can you clarify: 4 months from what starting point?? If you amassed that collection in only 4 months....then the rest of us are DEFINITELY not worthy!!!

    The collection took about 6 years.

    The Gameroom took me 4 months.
    - Demo work, sealed block wall, blacked out ceiling, painted block wall, flooring, electrical, game setup.
    Working on a half bath next, then seating/video game hangout room with popcorn bar, and then my shop area for working on games.

    Updated gameroom. Got tired of lugging pins upstairs so finished off the garage and moved them all down a floor. Sooo much better, and I get my theatre room back.

    Not a bad idea. I was considering doing a mural on each end with some UV paint, kinda like what I did with the Fathom cabinet.

    I have lots of other plans for decorations and lighting (probably not as crazy as you Paul ) that i'll do in the next few months. I gotta get the priority stuff done first, like bathroom and shop.
