Long couple days, running wire. Finally have domes and speakers working. The new garage area is now linked to the house so any music playing in the house can be played in the new area. All zone controlled so I can turn down or off the area in the garage if playing DDR or another game.

Jelly domes are now all linked as well. With a master unit controlling all other units throughout the house. The master is closest to the sub and operates off of bass. The whole house not pulses in sequence. I do still need add one more dome upstairs.

Still waiting for Galaxy Fire dart game that was supposed to be here five hours ago.

That looks great! Is it some kind of an epoxy with flakes in it?

    #12685 1 year ago

Looks awesome! And the game collection is too. I would spend a lot of time in there and would consider movin a bed in there and sleep to enjoy the view as I feel asleep and wake up to see it first. Ok, maybe I went to far on that one...maybe

Polyurea / polyaspartic acid floor coatings are the next generation after epoxy floor coatings. Much more durable. Had it put on my garage floor. They grind the concrete a bit, repair cracks, pitting, and holes, vacuum up the dust, put down the adhesive, then the chips which come in different colors, then a coating on top.

My game room with the polyaspartic coating along with aluminum flakes in the mix. Started with blacking out the ceiling. Applied the floor finish after the initial framing and electrical. Then I had to cover the floor and finish the drywall and paint. img07 (resized).jpg

Where on Earth are you storing all that stuff?? You have one of my favorite rooms on here, I can't believe you moved all that stuff!

Thanks for the kudos. I had to put in a special size passage door and a concrete stairwell just to get access to the room (originally started out as a 4 ft. square window). 44 in. wide 92 in. high. Having that custom-made took longer than the rest of the room. So I stored the contents off-site in a separate building, my garage, and in a 20 ft. box truck. Eventually it all fit.

I’m finally getting settled in to the new house enough that I was able to start messing around (literally) in the basement room. I really wish it was a unfinished basement, because it would be so much easier running wires. So far I stripped all the old lighting and wires out of the ceiling and replaced them with four pot lights. I also added a second switch because there wasn’t one by the main entrance. Also the ceiling and walls are a layer of 1/2” drywall with 1/2” fiber board insulation behind that...

Just what I was thinking. You have no drain. I have the same setup and constantly get water under the door.

There's a drain.... one of the shots is a picture of it in action.

    #12694 1 year ago

There's a floor drain on the bottom. But, here in Loveland, this door faces southwest. Any snow accumulated gets vaporized by the sunshine. I still haven't used my snow blower here, which is typical of the winters we see. It's unusual to see melted snow when it does happen. Seems to go from solid to gas, no liquid in-between. The sun (325 days a year, they say) is our best friend.

Denver is another story though - they seem to get hammered when it snows. And the mountains get feet of snow, which they actually beg for.

What about a hard rain? Will the drain keep up? Seems to me like trouble could be in your future...

    #12696 1 year ago

It's actually a perimeter drain (drain tile) that goes around the entire house, into a sump pump inside the utility room. Supposed to pick up ground water ahead of the foundation in the event of major downpour.

But the house is up on a hill, and even the heaviest of rain doesn't seem to bother the system at all. I rarely hear the pump run. It's got a water alarm inside the well attached to security system so I'm notified if the pump fails. There's a huge catch basin probably 12 feet below my ground level and the torrential rain we had a few years ago only managed to fill the basin maybe 10 in. at the lowest point. No where near my house.

When I was in Illinois, my game room got flooded with rain water and I had 4 in. of standing water throughout the room. Several arcade games got trashed, along with whatever was on the floor. I left the state and found high ground here in northern Colorado. No more sleepless nights when it rains heavily.

Walk-thru some years back in my early game room days:

    #12697 1 year ago

Yikes - flooding sucks man! Especially when you have valuable collectibles standing in water. My condolences!

Coincidentally, I used to live in Illinois and now live on high ground in the West too! Unfortunately, I no longer have a basement though.

    #12698 1 year ago

I know a little about flooding. Can't believe my sump pump couldn't keep up! Didn't own any pins at the time, they would now be priority #1.
