    Quoted from arcademojo:

You should really seal the block wall with Kiltz or some other sealer to prevent moisture and mold.

Thanks for the input guys. I'm out of my element on this but yeah talking with some friends that are experienced with this that are helping me we are insulating. Hopefully going to be done this weekend. Will be adding on about 150-200 sq ft to the game room which isn't much but with how congested things are down there it is definitely needed for some breathing room and another game or 2!

    Someday I’ll finish this basement...
Anyone have any idea why I have a concrete wall jutting out into this one space (see pictures).

Your own piece of the Berlin Wall?

There's obviously a heavy point load above on the upper floor loading down from the roof somewhere. The fact that the post material is structural material means the load above is rather heavy otherwise they would have just used some 2x6 spruce blocks nailed together instead of the structural material that was used.
That post is there for a reason and the concrete wing wall below was all put in place to pick up the heavy load from above. You're stuck with it so just make the best of it.
Or you could just knock it all out and see what happens

Maybe the previous owner had a safe on the floor above it so he had it added as reinforcement.

There's an idea, spray paint it up and give it a cool retro look. But yes definitely needed!

Tired of seeing holes in the drywall from your dart board?

    #12608 5 years ago

Its gotta be load bearing? Looks more like a 4x6 than a 4x4 but maybe that's the angle of the photo.

I'm no structural engineer, but I watch a lot of home renovation shows on TV

Thanks guys! It's a separate building right behind the house. Have several games in storage and out on route as well.

What's the size of the room in the first picture?

30' x 30'. 900 sqft. The second room is the same size but took room out for bowler, workroom and bathroom.

Your game room is why the most interesting thing in my game room was a cement wall.

    #12619 5 years ago
    Quoted from f3honda4me:

That won't be a problem. It's a brand new top of the line carrier furnace and AC. And it's sized for the full square footage of the home including the basement.

So I would mention that if you have everything on and a large group of people the basement will warm up enough possibly without installing anything. If its just you and another person, yeah, sweatshirts and warm slippers if you are gonna be needed. My brother uses kersone heaters and i just use a small space heater for the area we sit at. Considering we dont go down in the basement by ourselves very often its fine cost wise. I would like it more if it had radiated heat, i just dont know if we would use our basement more with heat, so it would be paying extra just for the luxury to not "bundle" up when heading downstairs.

Looks like foundation guys screwed up with layout during pour? Cant see if 2x12 Header has been notched around it? I love the sliced up glu-lam toenailed into subfloor-wtf I would probably get a concrete cutting company to come out and remove & make sure your Header is good and not notched.

Instead of speculating I would go to your township building and ask to talk to the building inspector. They may have a copy of your blueprint which should provide the information you seek.

Here's some PG rated "different kinda' gameroom" pics from 20 miles away from the eastern eye wall of hurricane Michael. Baby Pac I'm currently working on is in the back left of first pic. BPM and a Teed Off got the worst damage. Under the sheet rock on pic 2 from left to right were, Teed Off, Cue Ball Wizard, Golden Tee, Addams Famiy, Twilight Zone, Junkyard, and Kiss. The sheet rock actually helped ramp off some of the water. Pic 3 is a Roadshow, multi arcade, Strange Science, Stern Playboy and a Bally Playboy. All but Junkyard and Roadshow were refurbed within the last 18 months. The scene was heartbreaking, but all these machines fired up and went into attract with the exception of Teed Off and BPM. Strange Science, Stern Playboy and Bally Playboy lost all paint on backglass.
Compared to some, blessed beyond belief. Thank you Lord.

Wow totally sucks! Wish I was closer would definitely lend you my hands to help get you back up and running. Here in the midwest we have no idea what those hurricane things are but we have their cousins tornados.

Sorry to see that but glad to hear you’re okay. So what happened, did it take out part of the roof or an exterior wall?

    #12634 5 years ago

That does suck but could be a lot worst most games look like they are gonna be okay

An eye opener for sure. Scary stuff glad to see you come out okay

    #12635 5 years ago

Really, really sucks! Glad you were able to recover and refurbish most of them.

Pacman, that's a Halloween prop head. Suppose to be Kiss band member or somebody. Big witch Halloween prop in the back there somewhere too. BudManPinFan, Lifted the roof and set it back down took most of siding up high also. All the back fence and 2 trees. Everyone evacuated, no one hurt, and that's the main thing.

    #12638 5 years ago

Wow that's some kind of mess, would like to see some pictures after you got everything fixed.
