What? Seriously! That is outstanding. We have a “frog boy” sandwichboard but To my dismay, i recently found out it is not original

    Very cool

    Quoted from sleazius:

I've got a shadowline ceiling in part of my gamesroom (with white ceiling and walls) and the leds are concealed in there. You wouldn't think it but it lights up the whole room. I agonised about how much light I was going to get from it, but in the end it didn't matter, and shadow lines are far more concealed than a cove with LEDs pointing at the ceiling.

Thanks that does look nice but I still want only the ceiling lit.

If you’ve got a white ceiling and you’re using RGB LEDs you’re going to struggle as the ceiling acts as a reflector. I took inspiration from www.avsforum.com because this sort of thing is done in home theatres a lot more than games rooms.

Yup Seriously - I came up with this idea to have a bunch of sideshow banners in the room and then after thinking about it for a while I said why can't the window shades BE the sideshow banners? My wife fell in love with the idea and the rest was history

Exactly some black light carpet, some purple velvet curtains, more art and neon for open wall space, and your leg light ups, will totally tie things together

You need one of these. LOL!

What do you mean by struggle? I don't want to light the room just give the ceiling some colored wash, there's enough already in the room to light it. I just need to know how far down from the ceiling and far enough from the wall to get the best ceiling wash.

Because LEDs act as a point source of light, on a white ceiling in a dark room you get reflections of the LEDs in the ceiling itself - hard to describe but it doesn't look good (you don't get a solid colour wash, it more looks like individual streams of light). However, now that you've mentioned that the room will be lit, you just need a dimmer to adjust the brightness to find what suits.

As for cove/soffit placement and concealed LED lighting, you're very unlikely to get an accurate answer here. If you go to avsforums every second home theatre has concealed LED lighting using either a cove or a soffit, and the community there is 100x the size of here, so it has been done thousands of times.

I recently did a room with a full white drywall ceiling. I pulled the crown down ~6" from the ceiling. I used RGBW Led strips and they can light the room quite a bit but I mostly use them for accent colour so I don't get glare on the pinball machines. I use LED potlights inboard from the walls to provide some ambient light throughout the room.

OK thanks for the info. I was wondering if the light would have a "hot spotting" effect.

    #10517 6 years ago

My experience with RGBW strips is I cannot see spotting. I know there are strips with the individual dies spread out more, if they are far enough apart you would see it.

Yes and how far they are from the ceiling too.

That is the more important factor. The effect I was talking about is more prominent the closer they are to the surface they are to reflect off. You can buy smoked diffusers to stop the issue.

These ones are for recessed strips, like in a shadow line, also they're in Australia, but it gives you some idea of what is available to reduce the effect even if you don't want to run a cove.

    http://www.sunnylighting.com.au/led-strips/channels-accessories/slt6000/product-detail.aspx

Or like this, wall mounted up or down lighting:

    https://www.ledlighting.com.au/led-strip-profiles-led-p019/

    45 degree mount:

    https://www.ledlighting.com.au/led-strip-profiles-led-p007/

Anyway, getting away from your original question but there are lots of things that are traditionally used in home theatres that could be used in home arcades to great effect.

I think it is funny (and great IMO) that every Shadow I’ve ever seen had the alternate translite. Huge improvement. Whether or not you like Alec Baldwin the movie was “eh” and that translite art .. yuck

lol. I have BSD, Congo, and Shadow in the same order in my gameroom. I have the same translite on Shadow but so does pretty much everyone. Congo is definitely near the top of my favorite pins list. Looks like you have a ton of space for pins. I'm jealous. I might be able to squeeze one more in my room but it's pretty cramped.

Latest updates to the game room. Added a pub table (those black chairs will be replaced with bar stools) and added a table style game console. Now just looking to add a wcs94 and we will be done.....at least until I get a new pin in my sights!

Nice but how do you get from one side of the room to the other?

    Quoted from MustangPaul:

Nice but how do you get from one side of the room to the other?

I didn't layout any doors or stairs yet, but each pinball hall will have a set of doors on each end. Capable of holding 64 machines total.

    Quoted from AlexSMendes:

A hypothetical square block with tens of pinball machines in a few years? Hey, you stole my idea...

Design is still evolving, laying out the basics right right. Game will have 6 inches between them. The far right area will end up being the utilities for part of it. Its evolving as I think of more ideas.

So you would have to walk out of the room to get from 2 rows to the other 2 rows. Sounds like a good place to put a bar and a lounge area.

Bowtech, That’s a lot of light coming in to fade your games. It’s a great looking gameroom. I just moved out of lambertville. I’ll have to get you over when my gameroom is finished. Howie
