    Everyone has a BSD...except me.

So stop clowning around and get one.

Had to move all my pins into the basement today.

Jut add four more pins and change your Pinside name to Cloud9.

Thanks! I may go for SMVE in the future and drop a non-Marvel Machine. It depends on GotG (and BM66 code improvements. ).

I originally got the shuffleboard out of power concerns. I worried that I might not be able to put another wall of pins on the same circuit, plus what could we do during power outages and hurricanes? It turned out to be a big hit with the ladies. Guests love it and the room looks more open and less cluttered as a result. That successful addition was dumb luck on my part.

The pin to go with my bar is a constant matching struggle. I originally had a Sopranos there, which was perfect. TBL and it’s White Russians seemed like the best replacement out of what games I had at the time.

Eyegasm I like that. It gets everyone in a party mood. Never thought about charging admission. It would help pay the electric bill. With everything turned on the little wheel in the meter takes 2-1/2 seconds to go around.

WOW, if I had that much room I'd be broke.....but I'd have a lot of games.

    #9366 6 years ago
    Quoted from Goronic:

Well done man! Are those poker chip coasters!?

Yes. I started with a poker themed room, with a big poker table, card signs, etc., thinking I would get the World Poker Tour pinball. When I found one, I really didn't like the game play though, so I went with Sopranos as my first game instead. Every time I had people over, there was always a line at the pinball machine, but not my other stuff, so I scrapped the poker theme and went with Pinball. So, the coasters are the last hold over from that time.

Speaking of electric bill, Paul... mind if I ask how many breakers and what amp service you have for that room (and how many pins)? As I mentioned to you in a PM, I'm looking to build a detached garage/man-cave and want to make sure I get it right. Not sure how many pins yet, but the total space should be about 30'x30' with maybe 10' dedicated to a stall for my car and the other 20'x30' dedicated to pins (and some space to move around of course). I'm thinking roughly 16-18 pins... maybe less if I put in a poker table... maybe more if I forego anything other than pins. At 2amps per pin (is this close?), am I safe to say 8 pins on a 20A breaker (at 80% rating)? Or maybe 6 on a 15A breaker? I have seen some threads on pinside discussing this before, but thought I'd fire off a quick note while I was thinking about it before I did a full search. And heck, I'm sure this won't be the first time information was repeated or asked twice on pinside.

Well first off what do you plan on doing with the car part, compressor, what size, welder etc? For that many pins and neons and other cool light up stuff I'd go with 100 amp, all 20 amp lines and a shit ton of outlets even a few up by the ceiling, there's no reason to put 15 amp lines in anywhere in the games section or the garage part. Total I'd say 200 amp. How do you plan on heating it? The in slab hot water is really the way to go, nice even heat that's REALLY nice in our cold winters and unlike ceiling mounted forced air like I have your pins will stay nice and clean and you won't take the oxygen out of the room when you heat it like in forced air. Make all the walls 2x6 and insulate the shit out above the ceiling, I have R 86 in mine and I REALLY notice a difference with how often the heater comes on even in - degree days. When you stop over and see my garage/shop/gameroom II we can go into more detail.

I used a 100 amp panel for my game room, which is 2900 sq. ft. I have installed about 80 outlets scattered all over, many at neon-sign level, several in the ceiling (which is a 9 ft. unfinished, painted black). I have six pins on a single 20 amp circuit with the possibility of adding one or two more - because I have LED'd all of the machines which reduce power consumption substantially. Most of the rest of the circuits are 15 amp arc-safe breakers or GFI breakers (for the bathroom). I put a power meter on the wall to monitor power usage, which is very low as about 99% of the lighting in the room, including the machines, is LED.

All of the pin outlets are 4 ft. off the ground so no cords show anywhere. I'm a stickler about electrical cords showing. Always put in MORE outlets than you think you'll ever need. There really is no limit to how many outlets you can put on each circuit, since you'll only use what you need. Even after 80 in place, I wish I had put in more.

Ceiling outlets are very handy if you plan on putting perimeter lighting LED strings throughout. Using remote outlet controllers, I can turn on any of six zones for the LED lighting. Put them in every corner, and also floating within the grid of the ceiling at every 10 feet or so. You can float pinball machines in the middle of the room anywhere if you have a ceiling outlet hookup - no cords on the floor anywhere.

I used ceiling can lights scattered to provide even lighting, along with a few in a row over the pool table and a couple in the "family room" section with the fireplace. 65 watt flood LED lights only use 12 watts each, and don't produce any real heat.

As for heating, I have a gas forced air ducted heat system, but rarely use it, even in the dead of winter. The house is a raised ranch with the basement being aroung 4 ft. under the grade, and the heat from upstairs is very adequate for the basement.

Finally I did my floor in a "polyaspartic" material, similar to epoxy but more rugged. It's got about 80 lbs. of pure aluminum flakes mixed into the clear topcoat, giving it a "wet" appearance and very deep. It's first thing people comment on when they get in the room. Glossy bright, you can do it in any material or color, very cool and can take much abuse and heavy machines with no downside. Mop it to clean it as well.

Many different ways to design a room, so this is just the way if finally did my room, after building 3 different game rooms in past houses.

All these gamerooms with black light carpeting look great. However, that isn't an option for me right now. Anyone know where to get black light curtains?

Have someone make up some black cotton curtains for ya then go wild on them with different color bl paint, splatter it, squirt it, blob it, smear it, have fun.

Could also just stand in front of the black curtains and look at this thread, they'll be black light sensitive in no time....

Great looking room! Super nice pool table! I like variety and a pool table is a nice balance. If it doesn't get played move it along but looks great where it is. Just a envious onlookers thoughts.

Felt is shot and needs to be replaced so I didn't mind it during our mega Left, Right, Center game. Once the felt is replaced that won't happen again. In fact, when not playing pool the leather cover will be over the table.
