dung and CraziLevi both hit on this, it has been done already. It didn't really work.
I'm going to repeat what others are saying, but in my experience operating games I can tell you that people will play simpler games and like them, but they don't want to pay for it. So if you put out a simpler game, you have to charge less. That doesn't make sense when buying new, you won't get the return on investment.
It makes more sense to buy an early solid state or an EM and charge less than the DMD titles. You'll earn more. Yes it means more wear and tear on the game, but for an older game who really cares?
Case in point, I bought a Flash Gordon, it is 25 cents/play. It paid for itself in 5 months. I own a Tri Zone and in 4 years it has almost paid for itself 10x over at 25 cents/play. Both of these games often out earn DMD games priced at 50 or 75 cents. There is no way I'm going to pay $3k or more for a simple new game when I can buy an old one for $500-1000 and earn the same if not more.
