I’m much more interested in hearing people’s favorite lesser known bands and bands that maybe broke a mold.

Any Marked Men fans? Seeing this band twice in one day at Chaos in Tejas in Austin TX was one of the great days for me.

Any Bay Area love? I saw @bingopodcast mention some heavy hitters like Blatz, Filth, Econochrist and Spazz. 924 Gilman was huge for me growing up (still try and go when I can) here’s me holding the soundtrack for an excellent documentary “Turn it Around” that is well worth your time. The photos were for an Instagram contest for a test pressing, that’s why I’m cheesily holding a record in one (I won) the other is from when I was lucky enough to play there twenty years ago (ugh I’m old)

Lost a legend today. Kim Shattuck passed away from ALS. Such a bummer. Won’t be one like her for a while.

Quoted from MrDucks:

This thread seems to be mirroring pinball themes where most people don't realize anything that's happened in the past 25 years.
The "walk down memory lane" thing is nice and all, but I don't want to be the old man "back in my day the music was good, today's music sucks" guy, so I'd rather listen to some newer bands that are touring small clubs rather than the reunion bands from the good ol' days playing arena shows...
In that vein, here are some records I've been listening to that have been put out in the past year or so (or at least I got in the past year)..
Uranium Club - https://staticshockrecords.bandcamp.com/album/the-cosmo-cleaners
Lungbutter - https://lungbuttermtl.bandcamp.com/album/honey
Mike Krol - https://mikekrol.bandcamp.com/album/power-chords
girlSperm - https://thrillingliving.bandcamp.com/album/12
Krause - https://krause666.bandcamp.com/album/the-ecstasy-of-infinite-sterility
Slump - https://slumpva.bandcamp.com/
Constant Mongrel - https://constantmongrel.bandcamp.com/album/living-in-excellence
Lithics - https://lithics.bandcamp.com/album/mating-surfaces

That Mike Krol record is the best damn album of the year in my opinion

All great bands!
Couldn’t agree more on the walk down memory lane. I love all the old punk and noise but there’s just so much good music to be discovered on a daily basis. We are in a golden age of music discovery with streaming and I for one love it.

That Wimps album is great! Other people’s pizza is like my theme song!

My buddies just put out a new album yesterday. Craig has been playing in bands like All You Can Eat, What Happens Next, Conquest For Death and Your Mother for decades.

Quoted from bingopodcast:

Found Filth through the Blatz/Filth Shit Split 12" (like most everyone else).

You get it! Berkeley is my baby and I want to kill it!

Quoted from bingopodcast:

I also enjoy listening to punk in other languages. It seems the language of rebellion and counterculture is one that is universal. Los Crudos were a Spanish-speaking band with some pretty great hardcore.

Los Crudos is far and away my favorite hardcore band. Ever check out Martines other band Limp Wrist?

This local band was a heavy hitter for me.

Not yet, but I will, along with Fifteen!

Start with that Fifteen album, some are better than others, Choice of a New Generation is their high water mark IMO

How about punk rock songs about pinball? Anymore of those around?

That’s a great one! Here’s another-

finally got around to this album, a great little ripper!

Gonna throw out a weird one today. Local legends Dory Tourette and the Skirtheads are probably not know much outside the Bay Area, but put out a weird glorious album. It’s been described as Buddy Holly meets punk. Allegedly recorded in just two days on a drug filled frenzy in the back or Mission Records in SF by kids not yet even 21. This is the whole album and varies wildly throughout. It’s worth skipping around. The lyrics are insane, sometimes skewing toward questionable topics, the singer was a weird dude that went dark places but reportedly not like his lyrics and was beloved. Sadly he passed away from an overdose, which listening to this album doesn’t seem like a stretch. A great tortured artist.

I have listened to the new Jeff Rosenstock album like six times in the last four days. It’s “newer” style punk, I thoroughly enjoy it.
