Quoted from TaylorVA:

bingopodcast where you at the show in Skillet’s warehouse?

Went to a warehouse shows a-plenty, but probably not the one you're referencing. Born Against show? Never saw them live.

Quoted from TaylorVA:

Saw a lot of bands but have no idea who as it really didn’t matter.

Was down at the Biograph/Twisters/St. Edwards quite a bit, and the majority of bands I don't remember either. But quite a few left a big impression, or I saw as another act on the bill with the band I wanted to see and liked them more than I thought I would. I haven't been to a show since Inquisition's reunion, I don't think.

Born Against were great live. Think I saw them 4-5 times. Wasn’t the Inquisition reunion like a week ago? I went and saw Mudhoney recently, they played nonstop for 90 minutes, pretty impressive.

Ha, well, I'm out of touch. I was talking about the first reunion after '99 (like 2015). Wouldn't have minded seeing them again. One of the first bands I saw.

I bet they were. Never got into Mudhoney, but I haven't tried them in a long time. I'll give em another go.

F.Y.P. anyone?

^^^^^ Always loved the title of this song (Special Lady at the Waffle House)

I've been listening to some FIDLAR this week. I first heard them last week driving home from Tybee.

I listened To Pere Ubu’s first album from ‘78 last night for the first time in a long while. Maybe strictly speaking it’s not ‘punk’, but it shares a common DNA. They coined the term avant-garage as a description. They never really made it big-time themselves, but are credited as an influence by many later bands.

Saw Stiff Little Fingers this past Saturday at the (new) Masquerade in Atlanta. Great show. 4 thumbs up!

Love Rancid - although I don't fit the tough guy punk as I like ska as much as punk.

#414 4 years ago

That Husker Du video reminded me of The MC 5's, Fred "Sonic" Smith's Sonic's Rendezvous Band. The greatest band nobody's heard of. I wouldn't quite call 'em Punk, but I would call them absolutely incredible.

Take 4 minutes out of your life and check out one of my favorites...

Thoughts on Amyl and the Sniffers?

Some Black Flag tonight

#417 4 years ago

Exploited, Misfits, NoFX, Ramones, Vandels, The Queers, the Adicts, Pennywise, Operation Ivy, Rancid, The Nobody’s, Black Flag, UK Subs, D.I., Dead Kennedy’s all just a few favorites besides my heavy metals bands all of which I have seen too.

Not about pinball, but pinball in the video.
And Steel Pole Bathtub is the band that backed Jello as Tumor Circus, so maybe they were into pinball?

Gonna throw out a weird one today. Local legends Dory Tourette and the Skirtheads are probably not know much outside the Bay Area, but put out a weird glorious album. It’s been described as Buddy Holly meets punk. Allegedly recorded in just two days on a drug filled frenzy in the back or Mission Records in SF by kids not yet even 21. This is the whole album and varies wildly throughout. It’s worth skipping around. The lyrics are insane, sometimes skewing toward questionable topics, the singer was a weird dude that went dark places but reportedly not like his lyrics and was beloved. Sadly he passed away from an overdose, which listening to this album doesn’t seem like a stretch. A great tortured artist.

Swedish punk band Skitsystem put out a fantastic 7" called Profithysteri (Profit Hysteria) - entire 7" has great tracks on it, but this is my favorite.

#424 4 years ago

Also, this song has been stuck in my head in the morning on the way to work every day... Dystopia has some really great songs and great titles for their albums - Human = Garbage is a particular favorite.

Gotta be honest here; Bingopodcast makes me look like a blue vested Wal-Mart poser of a punk lol. Man what a treasure fuckin trove that guy is. But I'm ok with that, cause he makes YOU look that way too haha.
Just gonna go ahead and hand this thread over to him....the trvest of the trve. Thanks for all the the great obscure shit bruh!

DYSTOPIA--Anger Brought by Disease

#429 4 years ago

Ha! Thanks man, but one of the the parts of punk I love the most is the community aspect. We are all contributing here and I'm enjoying seeing the differences in regional groups.

I'm just some asshole that spent a lot of time in clubs and bands and rifling through record cases at shows when I was younger.

Speaking of: more local flavor. Action Patrol was super high energy. Stick with this song (kind of a slow start) and check out their album On Patrol if you dig it.

Also: Dystopia is pretty great - I figured you'd like 'em. Glad I was right.

One of the singers from Blatz formed this band in the early 90s. Still around today, I think?

My 1st show I went to I was 12. D.R.I./napalm death. My knees were bruised and bloody but I recall it like yesterday.

Pittsburgh had a good scene when I was growing up. 3 bigger venues, ton of dive places/vfw/fire hall/ house shows.

Was also into bmx. Pgh was/still is a bmx hot bed. Always be 10-20 of us at a show. Even now when I go be the old head at a show I run into guys from bikes I may not have seen in a long ass time.

During pinburgh this past summer there was 3 good shows that week/weekend. Black flag/ bouncing souls/ bad religion were all in town that week.

DRI is prob my favorite band of all time. Literally listened to my Four of a Kind cassette until it shredded in 89.
They have never stopped touring. See em every year here. Spike is a goddamn unstoppable force. Kurt still man's the merch stand and will tell you to fuck off if you ask too many dumb questions (not me, but these two numbnuts in front of me pissed him off asking about different colors, sizes, any other shirts, etc. Was funny af). MAD MAN! Lol.
WHO AM I?

#435 4 years ago

Still tryin to wrap my head around a DRI/Napalm Death show. Holy fuck.

#436 4 years ago

1996.
I was 22, and had just met my wife. So that's how I missed that. Didn't come outta the bedroom until 97.

That was the first BR performance in Pittsburgh I missed in over 20 years.

Debating in the br alkaline trio show. Never been to stage ae. Cant get into it. My younger self would say that's a sell out venue. Bring back graffiti and electric bannana

Alright @bingopodcast time to hit us with some more obscure crusty east coast shit. Gracias.

#440 4 years ago

Went to the same school as these folks at one point.

We got in fistfights with the white supremacists at lunchtime, listened to good music, and gave each other shit (and shoveled a lot on me because I was younger).

That was a weird place and a weird time.

#442 4 years ago

Listened to this group a lot when I was just getting into crust. Saw them play a bunch, and eventually they picked up the female vocalist from Destroy. Haven't listened to them in a long while.

#443 4 years ago

American punk is my favorite. Black Flag, Misfits, Agnostic Front, Circle Jerks, and Minor Threat are the BEST. So much anger and little regard for having to assume a “look.”

#444 4 years ago

The Ramones are also phenomenal and the FIRST real punk band.

3 bands I got to be friends with and see live a bunch of times

#448 4 years ago

I've recently been getting back into punk after over a decade hiatus. I was really big into punk and metal when I was in high school and was lucky to live within a reasonable driving distance to Boston and the surrounding cities. Back then I would see at least a few shows a week but then eventually my musical tastes changed and I started to get into jam bands.
This past year I got back into skate boarding and started to go back to my hard rock roots and saw Tool and Coheed and cambira. Most recently I was at a local taco joint and they were blasting Rancid, Nofx, Bad Religion, etc and it got me thinking "why did I ever stop listening to this". Just ordered some punk vinyl and I'm looking to find a punk show near by this summer. It's fun rediscovering things you once loved and cherished.

#449 4 years ago

Dude. I appreciate the heads up but if yer from Indy, and start a thread titled "Let's Talk About Punk", and don't know the Zero Boys, well, you should just be escorted to KY and dropped off in the OH river. Paul Mahern lives by me man!
I've heard 2/3 of those bands. Thanks for the others.
