Quoted from zombywoof:

Before X formed, Billy Zoom played for Gene Vincent. His guitar playing really adds a cool rockabilly vibe to their sound.

He never stopped smiling while he played. And hardly if any did he move from the spot he was standing.

X was a very talented, super well rounded band in all respects.

I just found out that fat Mike is a cross dresser. That was weird.

1 week later
#303 4 years ago

Sorry I haven't been 'in the pit' here much. Without going into it, the last couple months been my worst ever.
Sirius XM 40 liquid metal pretty much blows, except for Bloody Roots (Ian Christie is the fucking man) and Corridor of Covers. Couple weeks ago I caught a metal/punk CoC with a lot I'd never heard. Some I wish I didn't. Shai Hulud or whatever absolutely butchering "Linoleum" ----AAAGHHH.
But Pig Destroyer doin up some Negative Approach RIGHT DIG IT

Thought everybody knew that lol. Funniest frontman live I've ever seen, without a doubt.

#305 4 years ago

Little before my time, but still Indianapolis bred. Vocalist Paul Mahern is a producer in my town of Bloomington now.

#306 4 years ago

You motherfuckers ever listen to Donald fagen’s solo shit? Blow your tits clean off!!

#308 4 years ago

Guess we need to hire Rob Berks security for this thread.
SECURITY!

#309 4 years ago

IF JOE JACKSON AND DONALD FAGEN HAD A BRAWL, WOULD BANGERJAY WIN?
Depends. If they both die, everybody wins.

#310 4 years ago

#311 4 years ago

#312 4 years ago

#314 4 years ago

#315 4 years ago

I didn't scan this whole Thread...but I didn't catch any Bad Brains in the few pages I skimmed.

Nor did I see any Big Black. My copy of Atomizer gets a lotta love.

Have you heard that Steve Albini won a bracelet in the World Series of Poker? Apparently he’s pretty damn good at poker .

#320 4 years ago

Albini is a pretty talented mofo.

And no harshin' on Joe Jackson - Look Sharp! and I'm the man are great Post Punk LPs.

#322 4 years ago

One of my favorite bands.
Ran into some fuckin punk at Expo 2015 wearing a GBH backpatch and I asked "Livin your life on the edge of a knife?" and he was puzzled and said "don't talk to me".
Lucky I didn't ko you ya fuckin poser.

#323 4 years ago

Slide saving is punk af.

#324 4 years ago

Just found this shit last summer. Nashville crust vox backpatch, can't remember their name. He was was a good pinball player too.

#325 4 years ago

Lost a legend today. Kim Shattuck passed away from ALS. Such a bummer. Won’t be one like her for a while.

#326 4 years ago
Quoted from o-din:

It was 1980 or 81 when I saw X in or near Los Angeles. The Blasters opened. Trying to remember what venue, but I didn't drive and it wasn't one of the normal places. Both bands killed it.

August of 81 at the Greek Theatre

This thread seems to be mirroring pinball themes where most people don't realize anything that's happened in the past 25 years.
The "walk down memory lane" thing is nice and all, but I don't want to be the old man "back in my day the music was good, today's music sucks" guy, so I'd rather listen to some newer bands that are touring small clubs rather than the reunion bands from the good ol' days playing arena shows...
In that vein, here are some records I've been listening to that have been put out in the past year or so (or at least I got in the past year)..

Uranium Club - https://staticshockrecords.bandcamp.com/album/the-cosmo-cleaners

Lungbutter - https://lungbuttermtl.bandcamp.com/album/honey

Mike Krol - https://mikekrol.bandcamp.com/album/power-chords

girlSperm - https://thrillingliving.bandcamp.com/album/12

Krause - https://krause666.bandcamp.com/album/the-ecstasy-of-infinite-sterility

Slump - https://slumpva.bandcamp.com/

Constant Mongrel - https://constantmongrel.bandcamp.com/album/living-in-excellence

Lithics - https://lithics.bandcamp.com/album/mating-surfaces

Any ska punk fans around here?

Was around the same time, but this was a small indoor club in or near LA. I've been to the Greek a bunch.

Big ol' bummer of a headline to see this morning. Saw them back in 96 or so and then again in 2016. Hadn't lost a step. Or a growly scream as the case may be.

All great bands!
Couldn’t agree more on the walk down memory lane. I love all the old punk and noise but there’s just so much good music to be discovered on a daily basis. We are in a golden age of music discovery with streaming and I for one love it.

I see the Asheville asshole quota is still filled.
If you're looking for good taste I think you're in the wrong place. Go make a fuckin tie dye like everybody else there.

That Wimps album is great! Other people’s pizza is like my theme song!

I listened to every one of those bandcamp suggestions and while none were bad, they're just not my thing man. My buddy that owns/runs Lets Pretend Records here in Bloomington....totally his style. He probably knows and digs all those bands. Many shades of punk these days, and that's a good thing I guess.
Ironically I think that's my biggest attraction/obsession with death metal. Not really much variety. You know what yer gettin upfront. Like it or leave. I love it.
I do agree with not wanting to be a Springsteen song about it though. Punk to me, should be full of angry young vitriol. Always been a young mans/womans game.
I prefer the gutterish, crusty, faster stuff. But to each their own!

Except for ska.
NO FUCKING SKA ALLOWED.
Anywhere.
Ever.

Eh, Waddle's a young dude and been around here awhile, I always liked him...hes's an operator and one of the good guys. Just pullin yer chain buddy. You do you brother.
Bein friends with a lot of band geeks in school and in general, I've always wished there was a cool way to integrate horns into aggressive music. But there's not.
I do love Morphine and Coltrane though lol.

Still partial to the Skewed 7"

This kinda reminds me of Pissed Jeans for some odd reason. Mikey likes.

One more before the weekend. Back in the early 2000s I converted all my records to Vorbis, which seemed like a good idea at the time (higher quality and lower storage needs than mp3, but low device support). Gave my records to someone when I moved. Some days I regret it. Still listen to this one frequently, but I wish I could still pull it out of the sleeve and look at the amusing/disturbing collage artwork.
