When I lived in South Cali I was in a punk band for a few years... tried to get signed but never did.
Band wasnt that great but we played some Warped tour shows and opened for NOFX and others a few times. Smelly from the band was one of my best buds back in those years so got to play with him quite a bit.
I always liked more edgy stuff like the Fleshies out of Oakland (not sure what kind music they are technically but I guess punk would be a catch all).
When I was a kid me and my brother loved Fear the record... I can recite the lyrics to the whole thing to this day.

No doubt. NR was my band all through high school and college. So tough to see them struggle with health issues (Pierre had a stroke and now has cancer and Pezatti has Parkinson’s). Father time is a real douchebag.
ex-Propagandhi member John K. Samson has been making folk songs forever, but his politics have never wavered from the punk rock days.
He released this single over the summer and for me it perfectly captures the zeitgeist of 2020.
so, not punk, but still essential.

Same here man. Did you catch em on the 2009 tour? Lee Ving sounded way better than what I was expecting. The St. Louis show was wild.

I didnt even know they toured but I dont get out to shows much anymore. Spent so many years out a shows I got pretty burnt out on it so its pretty rare if i go see something anymore.

Awesome, I went to a Naked Aggression show there one time when visiting friends in the Bay Area. I've taken 1000s of show photos over the years and did a fairly big punk zine for a decade back in the 90s. Just noticed this thread... but not surprised, a lot of people I know from the punk scene are into pinball.

I've seen Fear twice live, but it's been quite a while. They were definitely entertaining, Lee Ving likes to bait the audience and get people riled up.
Anyone a Nausea fan? I definitely used to listen to a lot of the dirgy metally crusty Discharge influenced punk bands

I love this song, reminds me of a hardcore version of ac/dc or something... goofy and scary at the same time.
I saw them once in an Oakland warehouse and was concerned for my personal safety... their shows get a bit out of hand.
They were on Alternative Tentacles label for years.
For some reason I never listened to The Fleshies even though I listened to a bunch of Alt Tenacles bands and had friends that were into them. I dig it.
I wanted to like the Crucifucks growing up and have 2 of their albums, but Doc Dart's voice was always a bit too much for me to handle.
If you like pop punk, Sicko is criminally underrated. I bought their demo back in the day at Fallout Records in Seattle. It was super catchy and fast pop punk, I loved it from the get go. While jamming out to "FB Song" I looked through all the info on the tape and spotted the band's address and phone number. I turned out they lived about 15 blocks from me. It was 1992 and I was doing a punk zine called 10 Things. So I called up and talked to one of the band members and lined up and interview with them for later that week at one of their practices. They've put out 6 albums, the latest was last year. They aren't really a band anymore, they are all in other bands, but tend to get back together every couple of years to play a live show.

They were a bit odd in that they were actually good... like Matt can play and spent allot of time working on guitar sounds etc.
They were an odd mix of a good band with a singer who would scare the shit out of people... they were not fucking around when they played live at all.
My band did a warped tour show in the bay area and I invited Matt and he spent the whole day railing against the fake corporate punk rock Vans bullshit... It was pretty awesome to watch him get annoyed by a new thing every 2 minutes.

Definitely understand. I had a roommate once that played their albums nonstop... it is an acquired taste.
Another unusual vocal take: picked up an inexpensive 7" (Love Songs). This is one of the songs (in more polished form) on an LP. Early hardcore band from Philly.
Neurosis' earlier stuff is more classically hardcore, I think they slipped into the metal world somewhere along the line. I saw them in Richmond at some point after the turn, but it was a good show - they were the first band I had seen with a synchronized projected backdrop. Pretty impressive to a kid like me. Only bad news was that they didn't play any songs I knew.
I can't seem to find Short Wave Warfare on Youtube - that was the album I think(?) this song was from. Hmm. Starting to run together a bit in my head.
--Edit-- That's because I was misremembering the name of the album. Their debut was Pain of Mind.

I'm on a Pacific NW Music Archives group on Facebook and some of the songs from that soundtrack have been getting posted in the past month, I'd totally forgot about that album. I love the pairing metal, punk and rock bands with hip hop artists!

I love both the punk albums and more metal stuff and Neurosis is always a trip live. I had incredible experiences at their live shows in the early 90s... and that's the first time I saw Sleep when they were a young band opening for them one of the tours.

Anyone here go to Punk Rock Bowling in Vegas? We’ve been going for the last 20ish years (Las Vegas Shakedown and Las Vegas grind) and always hit up the Pinball HOF when in town. Would be cool to do a meet up if it comes back in 2022.
I’m impressed a lot of active punk zinesters here! I’ve been into punk for about 35 years. Played in a few bands. Recently did a podcast with my friends at http://audioammunition.blogspot.com/?m=1 but unfortunately most of it has been taken down do to Covid and whatnot. Still years of record reviews and interviews up. Currently working on a podcast with Lord Rutledge from http://fasterandlouderblog.blogspot.com/?m=1 hopefully it’ll pan out.

That was a great year! Loved Devo (Only time I saw them) and I think we saw the Damned too? They all blend together. Definitely saw The Dickies, The Muffs and Detroit Cobras that year at LVCS.

I saw a lot of shows there but never liked the venue. Hard to believe I haven’t been to a show since 2019. Nice collection BTW. Any chance you own Quarters? Very similar collection. I’ll be there Saturday to check out TNA.
I liked the upper balcony and the bands they booked. Now Salt Lake is a S&S monopoly. I do own Quarters and we will be opening a small venue in hopes of growing the local scene and getting some more smaller tours to come to SLC instead of going to Boise. I have heard from several bands SLC is impossible to book because everything is owned by S&S. Nothing against them but the city needs more options.

Killer. We need a Venue like that when bands start touring again.
What new bands are you into? Lately I’ve been playing Amyl and the Sniffers, Tommy and the Commies Wyldlife, Moral Panic, TV Crime, and Don’t Sleep (Dave Smalley’s new band).
