Quoted from AvidListener:Very cool machine, Axaios! Your lower playfield has several interesting differences in that area compared to some IPDB photos.
The shape of some of the Star Gazer letters are different, the gradient color fill/blend of those letters is different, the words "Bonus Multiplier" and "Plus" are absent, the shape of the right starburst, the woman's clothing colors/design, her face/hair, etc.
[quoted image]
The absent bracelet on the project game's sorcerer is also perplexing. Unless that entire lower playfield was repainted, the art appears to be a variant, perhaps a variant which was also repainted in some areas.
Could a prototype playfield have been utilized for a late production game? Perhaps.

Damn, that's crippled!!

That’s patina and shows it’s a vintage collectible!!
Quoted from ArcadeRaid:I don't know why but the bent leg is the saddest part to me.
This pin sure had a rough life. I really don't want to think what it has been through in the past.

I agree
This is such a cool challenge, and I think it's reparable....good luck, mate, and I can't wait to see your hard work on this pinball pay off.
Thanks guys. This is the biggest challenge I had so far and for a pin so rare such of this. Hopefully everything will work well.
Between two pieces of glass in the sun or with a light bulb. Also you can do it in the oven 125-150C but you have to watch every second.
There is a thread on how to even out plastics....somewhere

Found the thread. Thanks mate. I just even them out.
I used my wife's hair dryer

Thanks. I am progressing very slow due to lack of time however I like to believe that finally it will came up really nice.
Fixable? yes. Worth it? Probably not.
End its misery and use it as a donor to games in better shape imo, too much work.
Edit: Apparently I was late and you already started, in that case ofc continue

Certainty it's a lot of work. Step by step I believe that it will end very nicely.
cabinet is looking pretty good. Props for attempting this resurrection… I probably would have parted it. Hows playfield coming?
Quoted from silen7ce:cabinet is looking pretty good. Props for attempting this resurrection… I probably would have parted it. Hows playfield coming?
Unfortunately my time is limited because of my job and all and I have not yet get to the playfield.
From what I understand, pinball is all but extinct in Greece, because of some idiotic law. Finding a machine there in general is very tough. Which means finding a machine as cool and rare as Star Gazer is nothing short of a miracle.
I kind of see how people say that they would have parted this one out. But, knowing the context, I think resurrection is the only right choice for this game (that Axaios wisely made). Parting out this machine might very well mean parting out the only Star Gazer in the entire country.

That is so correct.
Also it is almost certain that this Star Gazer in the only one in the entire country.
Hello guys.
You most probably remember the bad shape that lock bar was.
After an attempt to straight it up that failed horribly it was certain that the lock bar was beyond repair. So I decided to make a new one. Custom made by a local blacksmith shop.
...and I have also straight up the bended leg

Nice work on that lock bar!
A tip: If you want to give that Stern coin door and those legs a fresh look, silver color Hammerite hammered aerosol paint is a great option.
I've done two Lightnings with it and the result was awesome; very close to the original paint job in terms of structure and color. Best thing is that it will cover the rust spots. Quite a cheap fix too.

Good luck on the restoration!

Any Pin can be fixable and brought back to life I picked up a pin for a hundred bucks years back just for the Love of the hobby and saving it from the dump.I didn’t have time on hands to dig into it so I gave it to Great fellow Pinsiders they restored and it’s in someone’s gameroom right now.
Looks great. Keep up the endeavor. I enjoy this angle of the hobby maybe more than playing. Just brought back to life an old Gottlieb Grip Tester. Lots of fun!!!
Quoted from Axaios:Thanks guys. You are really helping.
I really thought a lot of this. The fuct that this pin is one of the last Star Gazers made (866 out of 869) might explain the art work. However is I think a long shot.
Any way.
This is a 1980 game. Even if it was repainted we are talking about early, mid 90s. Someone made the effort to restore the playfield 30 years ago. Perhaps this person isn't even alive as we speak. I think that represents true pinball history.
One way or another I think it's unique. I will keep the playfield as it is and restore the missing parts.
I think early Stern games were numbered starting at 500.

Thanks for the tip. Sure, I will try it out.
Bonus points for those bridges, lol! Especially the one still on-board!
Great work! This has been a very fun thread to follow.

Did not restored the boards my self however. It's just good to have around people with great knowledge on the subject.
When I first light up the pin this coil was burning and I mean literally burning with smoke and everything
