What do you do when you inadvertently crush all the legs under the Test ROM chip body...and then break half of them off trying to straighten them back out?

You try to fix it!

And end up hacking the crap out of it!

I have serious doubts that this is gonna work. Now I remember why I was trying to fix firepower without the test ROM...it's always something!

A tech I know clips a leg off of a crap chip and solders it on.

Personally my test chips live full time in SIP strips

I'm liking this method a lot better. I don't know what I was thinking with the wire...maybe had through-hole on the brain.

Hope to test it tomorrow night.

Thanks!

PS: the machined socket solder tails wouldn't fit into the existing socket so I had to go with a traditional socket. Yeah it has two extra pins on one end, but that was as close as I could get!

I keep failed chips around just for that purpose, leg transplant. Much easier. Tin both the broken leg and the donor leg and then melt them together.
