After 10 years of looking. Finally obtained another off my list. Ultra legendary rare game Mr. Black. Taito games are rare in the US in general, because they are were only made and operated in south america. Mr. Black was the last of them made. Not many were made, and it was shunned upon, due to it's subject matter. So it's ultra rare.

Amazing Find, congrats on a rare machine.
Not going lie, this machine looks scary.

Congrats on a cool machine and a really cool ship

Magnificent find.

The target bank text says "guardians of the evil force."

Love the "Powerage" font of the title.

Nice addition to your collection Neo ! Congratulations !

That's cool!
What's the deal with the giant round playfield insert thing?

#10 3 months ago

Cool. I had no idea Taito made pinball machines. I wonder what kind of mechs and electronics they used. Could you please post some pics of under the playfield and inside the backbox?

Looks like a large insert that lights up, similar to Defender.

#12 3 months ago

Absolutely incredible score. Congrats!

Are the rules basically the same as Defender, minus the single drops?

#13 3 months ago

Now onto the gameplay video.

#14 3 months ago

Never even heard of it, that's sinister looking, right up my alley!

I like the games on an angle, I had mine like that at my other house too. Classes the joint up a bit.

Awesome find.Love the "ship" as well.

No. The rules are completely different than defender. Taitos copied layouts but never rules.

DON’T SPOIL MY FUN, NEO!!!

I’ve been working on one of these for 5 years and it’s finally coming in soon... it is legendary. What a stellar game. The grim reaper theme is awesome!

I didn’t realize Mr. Black was the last of them. Taito de Brazil made some awesome themes. Opa-Opa is hilarious.

Niiiiiiiiiiiice!

Congrats on the find!!!!!!

That looks so fucking sick. I love metal and horror B-movies, and that art fits right into that aesthetic. NICE!!!!!!

Wins a prize for Dark. If that huge light-thing lower playfield was a Fireball-Type spinner gameplay would be awesome.
Unfortunately couldn't live with that backglass Ghoul or the field skull.
Glad you got it.

#22 3 months ago

it's like a witch or mage. Reminds me of the poe's from Zelda.

#23 3 months ago

Very cool looking. Also didn't know Taito made pins. Congrats on your pickup.

#24 3 months ago

it's because taito pins were never distributed or sold. They were made in South america and used in arcades owned by taito in S.A.

Looks like they "cloned" the "Bally Man" too, lol. So you have a Bally-ish logo on a Williams layout using a Gottlieb cabinet (and boardset?)... seems to fit the theme well!

I LOVE the look of this game and its art. And the sounds in that video make me think it was secretly running on an Intellivision, which makes me love it even more. The music execution is awesome for the era; it may be slow but that somehow makes it more sinister and regardless, you can tell they were pushing the limits of what they had. What a fantastic score - congrats!

Slow my ass. This game is fast as shit. Flippers are so damn strong I had to gap the EOS wider to cut some of the power. Mine is brutally fast.

I think he meant the slow and sinister music? The music is great for that theme!!!

You should now start a Mr. Black Club thread so that you can share strategy and settings with all the other owners.

Taito used their own board set. Which someone has made a better newer board for taito games.

Are you planning to do more to this game as a restoration? Looks like a blast. Like Defender, but with more drops and multiball(s)!

Thank you for sharing.

Wow, kudos on the find. The theme is awesome, like Dante's Inferno meets The Ritual (great film on Netflix if you haven't seen it).

Taito is an interesting company, not sure how closely related the pinball & video game divisions were, but I had a Taito Trimline Cabaret Space Invaders a few years ago. It had a gel overlay on a B&W monitor to simulate color graphics. Not sure if they were the first to do that, but the effect is cool. Also a big fan of Lunar Rescue.

Any speech on Mr Black?

#33 61 days ago

no speech. Just great 80's sound effects and music. Great version of Beethovens 5th in 80's midi file sounds

#34 61 days ago

Not Beethoven, but Bach - Toccata and Fugue in D Minor

sounds more like beethovens 5th when starting multiball.

People would make a club thread for Lock Ness Monster just for shits and giggles.

I was not aware of this! Who’s making boards?

If I wanted nobody to be able to play it ever again, and wanted to shit all over the art package.
