Got a Laser Ball I am working on and have a problem with the left sling.
All coils on the game work and play great.
But the left sling coil does not fire when the switches make contact.
If I ground the driver Q10 the sling will fire just fine.

I have gone over all the wiring and it all looks great. I also tested for continuity when the sling switches are closed and they are working properly as well.
What else should I be looking at?

Hmm...made sure the switches are properly adjusted? I know in newer games if they are touching all the time it will disable the slings...don;t know aboot that era though. Just a thought.

Yes. I put a meter on the solder pads of the switches and pressed them together on the top of the playfiled and both make good contact.
I wish it were that simple.

I'm not understanding: does the solenoid fire in test mode?

I would guess so. Have not tried that.
I simply opened up the backbox and manually grounded the transistor that drives the coil and it fires just fine.

That is a good test. You have proven the solenoid itself, power, and wiring/continuity back to the driver board is good.

Now you need to figure out where the control signal is dropping out. Next step is to run solenoid test and see if it fires in test mode.

Problem solved.
The white green wire was not pushed in all the way on the IDC plug of the driver board.
