When the "Advance right bonus" 500 switch (mid-way up the right playfield, just under the "Scores right bonus" eject hole) is hit, the right bonus ladder advances one position as it should. Immediately afterwards the left bonus unexpectedly advances one 5,000 point spot. Can't figure out why. When the top center 5,000 "advance left/right bonus" is hit it works properly - advancing only the left or right bonus as called for. Spinners do the same: left spinner only advances left bonus, right spinner only advances right bonus. I do have the instruction manual and schematics, but please consider me a rookie if you have suggestions. I have come a long way with this game - it would stop play after draining ball two and four (old forum posts helped), and also would not advance to the next player after player three and four drained. But this phantom bonus advance has me stumped. Thanks, Henry

Check the switches on the Alternating relay and sw. A on Change for cleanliness and solid contact. These are make/break switches, so you have to really stick your face in and push the plastic armature (the moving part the blades go into) to see if they're opening and closing correctly.

Thanks for your reply, currieddog I checked both relays, cleaned the switches and made sure they were making and breaking properly. No change in the original problem. I took pictures of both the "Advance right bonus" and "Advance left bonus" playfield switches where the wires are attached. I'll post them tomorrow. I did notice all the wiring in the machine is cloth coated except for an orange plastic coated wire on each switch. Hmmm.

This is the base of the right "Advance right bonus" switch. The orange platic coated wire goes off picture top center and seems to connect to the lighting ground.

Base of the Advance left bonus switch. Orange plastic wire comes off the left switch blade.

Advance left bonus switch showing plastic coated orange wire coming off switch blade, ending to the left at a light (grounded, I assume)

Quoted from hjh632:

the left bonus unexpectedly advances one 5,000 point spot

What are these 3 switches and the relays they're on doing when this happens?

AHA! A simple solution. The top two contacts were always touching on the "Advance Left Bonus" switch. Regapped until they were separated This also solved why the left out lane scored the regular 10,000 points plus 500 more. Also when the left spinner advanced the left bonus ladder it had been scoring 500 points. All three issues solved. Thank you for all the suggestions. Henry
