Oh, and if nothing else, I feel pretty strongly that LEDs behind any painted backglass is a BRILLIANT idea - reduced heat = minimized flaking.

Here's something weird, I put LED's in the two top score wheel windows to compare them to the bottom two. I really liked the LED's but, the player up lights stopped working, and the ball in play lights stopped working. Put the 44's back in and everything came back
This thread inspired me to buy enough LED's to switch over my backglass lights, and some of the larger multi-units for the pop bumpers. They're expensive, but if it saves one backglass I'm money ahead.
As I see it, we don't own these machines as much as we're caretakers for them while they're in our possession, and anything we can do to protect them is our obligation to do.
I have retro white LEDs I got from the Silverball in my gulfstream.
Although I like the brightness, I do not like how the ball looks when rolling around. When the ball passes near the LEDs, I can see a "strobe light like" effect. That is, instead of seeing the ball and faint blur trailing it as it rolls around, I see the ball and then ball, ball, ball....kinda hard to express in words.
I do like the way they look it he back box, though.
That phenomenon might be game specific, however, because I have the same LEDs in my firepower and I don't notice the ball trail strobe effect as much. It's there, but for some reason it doesn't bother me nearly as much.
I like the warmth of the normal bulbs, in an EM. For the SS game the LED are great for inserts and the backglass, for general lighting in the playfield I like the incandescent bulbs. Adding LED to a SS game is like adding Radial Tires to a 60's car, a big difference. They are just bulbs, they can be added and later removed with out any damage to the game. It is your game, do what you like keep yourself happy.

I think it depends on the LED's. Those cheap first generation ones did that in my games. But the ones I buy now (from cointaker) don't do that at all. I don't work for cointaker, nor do I have anything to gain by promoting them. I didn't like that strobe effect at all, in fact we would put 47's in the kickers so it didn't affect the game play, but with the LED's we buy now, it's not necessary.
