Hello all,

I have searched/seen a few topics on pinside about this topic, however didn't get a an obvious response. I work for a company that sells led signs and we have a few of those LED strip kits (we got as demo's) laying around. I want to take one and put underneath my X-Files machine. It comes with a power adapter but I'd like to tie the strip into the game somehow so when the machine is turned on the strips light up. They are 12V strips----any advice on doing so? Thanks.

Quoted from DefaultGen:

Also those cheap little plastic solderless connectors are the devil. I would recommend just soldering strips together rather than dealing with those little nightmares.

Thanks...Are you referring to an adapter that plugs into the female/male end (not sure if I even have the 3 pin plug) and then out to the strips??? Thanks again.

Quoted from mbott1701:

Another option is to use a DK Pinball GI Buddy so that you can have the LED strip come on and go off with the GI.

This defiantly interests me....has anyone used this before for under-cabinet lighting? Is the DK GI Buddy board pretty much plug and play?

Quoted from DugFreez:

I'd like to know where this +12v dc is on the coin door? I know there is high power ac there for a bill acceptor (which will fry a LED strip hooked to it I would imagine).
On X-files there should be +12v and +5v on an unused 3 hole connection near the service outlet (inside the cabinet just below the right flipper button). This harness, which was in every Sega / Stern for year (including X-files) was originally intended to power a printer or a printer interface board that could be connected to print out audits from the game. It was labeled as "FOR THE PRINTER SUB-ASSEMBLY" in the game manuals. I'm really surprised Stern kept it in the games as long as they did. With every new game release I expected it to be gone. The new SPIKE System games do not have this connection.
On the connector, the top hole (near the point in the plastic connector) is the ground and the bottom hole is the +12v.

I think I know exactly where that is...I'll take a pic tonight and post for reference and also verification. Thanks
