STLE Target Light.jpg
#1 10 years ago

I've noticed an error in the lighting on my STLE, and I wonder if it is in the software, which should mean that others have encountered it, or else it is an error in the board or wiring on my particular machine.

The light in front of the target to the left side of the Beta Quadrant ramp (Red Target 5, Lamp #14) does not light in red at all. (Hit the target, and nothing happens, even though the switch registers.) When testing all lights in white in diagnostics, it lights up in light blue instead of white. (See below. It looks more blue than appears in this flash picture.) In fact, it is either always the wrong color, or else (when it is supposed to be red) doesn't light at all.

Anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions? I did look at the wiring, and everything seems to be in order.

Your RGB led has a busted R. New led needs to be put in. The LED has three actual points of light in red green and blue that light up in different brightness to create the illusion of infinite colours. The blue and the green are still working hence some colour sometimes, but without the red component it will be the wrong colour.

Ah. Makes sense. I'll contact the distributor. Thanks.

I had red die in one of these games recently so I put a 555 socket in and soldered a wire from the r on the board a the ground on the board. Put a red flex led in and you can't even tell its not the same board it was before. Just a thought for anyone that wants to get up and running without waiting on stern only parts.

This is no issue!
This insert is for the Black Hole target. It's lightend when you hit all the 5 little red targets and awards a mystery.
When it's lit, it has this light blue. I hope they change this in upcoming softwareupdates. It annoys me from the beginning, cause it's very hard to notice if it's lit, especially in multiballplay...

It's the middle of the three, not the one on the left. When all lights are lit in red through diagnostics, it goes blank.

I have had 2 boards do the same thing. 2 different boards both with the red out on the board mounted color changing chips. Seems to be a manufacturing defect in some of the boards

Had same issue on 2 boards, mission and weapon one. Replaced boards in warranty.

Unfortunately for me they were not very helpful in that dept. They said the game was more than 90 days and it was out of warranty. He suggested I call my distributer to order the parts.
