    The bane of home ownership.

I was expecting to see some picture of a giant pile of leaves or something on fire...

This is not a very inspiring discussion starter.

I hate chestnuts way more. I can at least move leaves around and pick them up with a rake.

    #6 7 years ago

I'm surprised my neighbor's haven't killed me yet. If anyone wants all the tree's in my front yard you can have them for the wood. Hate the leaves and the tree's have killed the grass.

I have a wooded area at the back of my house. All the leaves get blown and raked into that area.

My main problem is keeping them out of the gutters. I've got covers, but stuff still seems to find its way in.

ha. I had to clean out our gutters earlier today. Leaves - good riddance.

    #9 7 years ago

I blow them down the hill and make them Somebody else's problem. My neighbor does it.

When they all drop at once is the worst

I disagree, If the damn things all dropped at once I would be done.

I don't mind the leaves, but these guys with their backpacks first thing in the morning really piss me off sometimes.

This was round one of Leafageddon at my house. I swear there's a driveway under there somewhere. Round two was Acornageddon, which is worse because you will fall and die.

Dear God, what is that monster palm tree I see in the background? In Tennessee! Is it cold hardy?

Fun thread, around here the leaves just stay in the trees all year round. One of my shots from the hood.

Where's the "mow them with the lawn" or "wait until a windy day makes them somebody else's problem" options?

    #18 7 years ago

i would love to cut down every damn tree in my yard. wasnt bad when i had tractor to mow them up with... raking sucks

    #19 7 years ago

So I'm not the only one? I love oaks in a park, not so much in my yard. Palm trees are great though. They never clog my gutters.

    #20 7 years ago

Just finished cleaning up my yard this weekend. Filled up (26) 30 gallon bags this year.

    #21 7 years ago

I have 26 Trees and pick up about 250 fifty (50) gallon bags every year. Good exercise for me. I love the shade they provide when it is 100 degrees here.

    #22 7 years ago

Waiting for the last leave to drop from the trees. I like to rake the leaves into a pile then mulch with the lawnmower.

Considering I'm a landscaper these just look like big piles of money on the ground to me.

    #25 7 years ago

Leaves suck, but gumballs suck more. Those come down all year long. I would love to have a sit down with the homeowner that planted the two sweet gum trees on my lot, now very big. One is cracking my driveway and the other my patio.

    https://www.engadget.com/2016/11/07/the-best-leaf-blower/

If your lawn is too large for leaf cleanup with a rake, we recommend the Worx WG520 Turbine Leaf Blower, a corded electric handheld blower that offers leaf-moving power on par with many gas models, at a fraction of the cost, weight, and noise. This conclusion comes after almost 100 hours of research and testing over the past three years, including hands-on time with 18 leaf blowers and the input of three pro landscapers with 52 years of combined experience. In our three years of leaf blower testing, the Worx is the most powerful electric blower that we've used.

Yup, those are banana plants. Since it just finally dropped below the 70s within the past week and we're still in the high 40s at night, they are still going strong and will last until the first few freezes. They never last the full year to be able to produce bananas, but they are nice shade for the greenhouse in the summer and my chickens love to destroy the 6' tall leaves.

The 2 acres of ridges beyond the fence are mine and we don't touch the leaves there. I've got 3 100+ foot tall trees in the front yard that make it look like the driveway, and normally mulch them into the yard. But since it hasn't rained more than 1" since March here, my city is currently literally on fire, and we're under a red alert for air quality... I'm not doing anything. The grass is already crunchy and mostly dead anyway, so I'll get around to mulching/mowing them into the yard once I can breathe outside.

Yes, it looks bad, I read about it today in the WSJ. Hopefully it will break for you. Being in a drought sucks, as we know all too well over here. We've been in one for years with no end in sight.

    My selection would be:
    Mulch them

I once said to a guy I work with "I have to go home and blow leaves" and he said "You know a guy named Leaves"

My Walker mower with the grass handling system is like a vacuum cleaner for your lawn. This thing has been a game changer in my yearly battle with falling leaves!

Can I borrow that for a bit?

    #34 7 years ago

I have 3 giant red Oaks, a massive silver maple, and a few others......I refuse to rake because my back won't take it. So, I got a gas blower and a rider with a bagger. Once a week I blow all the leaves out of the landscaping into the lawn and then drive around for 90min sucking up leaves.

    #35 7 years ago

I live in heavily wooded surroundings. I mulch. I burn. I blow. Depends on my mood. But whatever I do, it takes gas!

A small leaf somehow made it onto the back arch plastic on my Flash. I'm just gonna leave it there for now.

Having had 16 years of the annual fall punishment, this year I bought a Cyclone Rake. WOW what a joy! It has made the clean up easy and fun! Even in areas that I cannot get the mover into there is a detachable vacuum hose with a 17 foot reach. When I use it the wife drives the mover and I operate the vacuum. I highly recommend using one if you have a leaf problem. https://www.cyclonerake.com/

In my yard, the leaves provide natural mulch and since we don't get much rain it of great benefit as it keeps the ground cool and moist and allows the upper feeder roots to thrive.

You can thank the squirrels for that. They aren't happy just chewing on one, they feel the need to drop them all. Mostly before they are ready. I guess I should be thankful they leave me a few. Those bastards weren't around until a few years ago.

I "leaf" them in the flower beds and veggie area but a 2 feet deep pile of leaves covering the lawn can not stand.

If they get dropped early like that, will they ripen up and be edible? Or are they ruined? If they are ruined, that would suck. If I had to choose between yummy avocados or the life of the squirrels----

    Yeah go with that

They are ruined at that point as they won't ripen. Squirrels have become a real nuisance around here and serve no useful purpose that I can see.

When I moved into my house there were two liquid amber trees in the front yard and another next door and it's roots were destroying my driveway so we had them all removed. That's one yearly mess I don't miss especially those little spiky balls it would drop and I turned my ankle and buckled a few times before they were gone. If anybody has this kind of tree near their house it would be wise to have it removed as the roots can do major damage to the foundation.

My neighbor works offshore on a job by job basis. He is home now and will be for the winter. He loves to do yardwork and asked me if he could take care of my yard. I asked how much and he said "for free". The dude mows, edges and blows leaves for nothing. Damn I'm going to hat it when he goes back to work.
