Does anybody here do the mathmos with a transformer / adapter? I've been thinking about it but haven't pulled the trigger due to the $$$ and completely unfounded concern about the transformer as a heat / fire hazard.

#228 3 years ago

Why not just have the one that goes between the plug and the wall?

#237 3 years ago

So same bulb socket just different bulb and plug? Sounds easy enough.

Ooooo no wires I like it!

I liked a couple of the wax / water color combos on Spencer's but I dont like the lamps with art or whatever on the outside.

Anybody make their own refill wax / fluid? Had some mixed success with the magma tower gookits and have thought about doing some experiments.

On the plasma lamps is there any way to make them slow down at all or are they pretty much zapping at a million miles an hour all the time?

If you're the kind of dude ready to spend 3k+ on a lava lamp there's not much stopping you from using ship2me and a transformer.

Has anybody tried a mathmos with just switching the bulb to a 110v and getting an adapter for the plug?

#312 2 years ago

Those things look amazing, beautiful flow. Nice score.

Is this just for the empty globe or is one of you two doing the bracket / goo etc? Either way I frickin love this idea.

#414 1 year ago

Do you have a link on the exact "old school" formula to recreate for the liquid and wax? Or the new one for that matter...

#419 1 year ago
Quoted from vid1900:

I have screen grabs of the original and new formula from an Angelfire website that was made by a former LL employee

Willing to PM / email / drop box me?

Someone has taken over for Magma Tower and selling lava lamp filler. Unfortunately really expensive but could work for this if vid doesnt spill the beans

Quoted from vid1900:

I see the "vintage master fluid" for sale there
Is that actually old fluid that has been filtered, or did they just follow the known, toxic formula before the 2000s ?

No idea

Could some one make the recipe post a key post?
I’d be interested if someone is going to make the base.

I don't think a recipe with ratios etc was ever posted, was it?

#436 1 year ago

Vid will you post the recipe you have?

Man... I want a bunch of the liquid / wax combos in bases that don't have all that silly crap on them. And yeah, what is flocked?

I'll have a booth at Allentown where I'll be bringing a lamp to display just for fun in our chill lounge. If anybody has one they want to bring for the vibe I'd be happy to add it to the display!

I used an old magma tower gookit to redo a lamp and the wax blobs are many little globes instead of snakey flowing wax. Does that mean it needs more surfactant, or that I used too much?

#550 9 months ago

I'll give the dimmer a try first. If I keep adding wax dye will the wax eventually become less transparent or will the color just darken down? The color is pleasing but the wax still has a see-through kind of look.

Those little guys any good?

#591 4 months ago
Quoted from vid1900:

Have no idea. They did not have any plugged in.
Walmart sells the same for $15, and they have 400 positive reviews.

Yeah but those folks probably don't know anything about good flow

I think you can just swap the bulb and get a straight up plug adapter right?
