Putting this here in case anyone wants to refurbish their lamp or make one.
I’m just going to pour out the fluid and refill my recent Spencer’s cloudy 52oz lamp instead of taking it back.

Have you tried these instructions? How close is it to store bought?
Do you think it would scale down, like down to a four ounce bottle? Looking at a tall skinny jar of capers.
Haven't tried it yet. I figured that Reddit User probably did a lot of trial and error so that would save me a whole lotta work. I've cycled this 52oz and it's not getting better at all. I figured with the current shortage of Lava Lamps, I might as well keep it and try to get it clear.
My grande was cloudy when I got it, but after running it a few hundred times it’s pretty clear now. I can understand not wanting to wait over a year for that to happen though.
Quoted from Beechwood:All you guys are a bunch of losers. Lava Lamps?
Fuck you all... now I want to buy at least 3. FUCK!!
Pinball is expensive enough!!!
Check Meijer near you.
I grabbed a metallic purple one while grocery shopping this morning.
$25 ain't bad.
Seeing that all the Homedepots around me are out of stock, Goo Kits are gone, etc, etc, $25 for a purple metallic one will be $10K by Christmas!
Grabbed this early 2000’s Grande yesterday…
For $20. At a tag/garage sale.
I didn’t even haggle them.
Still has the original bulb in it. Came with the box.
Thing is a flow monster.
(I should iterate that a local place had luxardos for $10 a jar as a loss leader, and after stopping there for me, the wife HAD to stop at the tag sale. So the moral of the story, is that drinking old fashioned’s pays off!). Cheers!

Yeeahhh, its best not to visit Pinside threads that are off-topic from pinball machines. You'll be finding all sorts of stuff you never needed in life, then all of sudden, you got to have it.

Now I want a Filet-o-Fish lava lamp
Does the colored wax lose its color over the years?
I have one with green wax and clear liquid. (Black base.) I’m thinking that it isn’t as green as it was.
Quoted from undrdog:Not in the sunlight, but probably 10 years old.
If it was never in the sun and never overcooked, it usually does not fade - I've got ones from the 60/70s that still seem vibrant
But anything is possible, was it a neon lava?

Well played, I'm finally caught up!
Got this CocaCola edition from GoodWill. I don’t think it was ever really used as it was still wrapped in its original packaging (GoodWill put it all back in after they took their photos)

^ cool find!
Does that have the B22 bulb in it with the little pins on the side?

You can remove the guts and put a normal E27 socket and 2 prong usa cord on it. Then you can use a standard 40w appliance bulb.
Or you can buy a power adapter for $25, but you will have a much harder time finding B22 40w bulbs in the States, every time they burn out.

Quoted from sbmania:Not sure what bulb is in it. How do I get into it? Does it open from underneath?
The globe should just gently lift from the base with a little twist
So here's the latest. I found a travel converter in a drawer and tried plugging the lamp in. Nothing. I saw the 220v plug said there was a fuse inside so I opened it up and found a weird sized 3 amp fuse in it - blown of course.
I got a mini 3 amp fuse to fit in the holder (a little too small but it fit) and re-tried. Still nothing. I then removed the globe and saw the lamp uses the bayonet style bulb inside as referenced above. Of course, it was blown!
Now I'm trying to decide whether to locate a replacement bulb and see if the lamp works or just replace the entire socket and plug first. Thoughts?
Quoted from sbmania:or just replace the entire socket and plug first.
I'd do that, quit chasing back and forth.
LTG : )

If you could find a 120v, B22 40w clear bulb, you could just replace the cord end with a 2 prong - probably the path of least resistance
If not , gut and replace.
Remember in USA: Hot wire (skinny plug) goes to switch, and then to the Tip of the socket.
(if you reuse the existing wiring, Brown is Hot, Blue is Neutral, Green is ground
with magma tower not making any goo kits at the moment and for who knows how long, does anybody know of a company making something similar? I've got 2 80s vintage lamps I really want to fix.

Where did you get them?
I got a new glass multi tiered shelf and have been rounding up all our lamps. Going to make one giant display, pics to follow!
Quoted from gliebig:Where did you get them?
Sorry, just seeing this. We got it on amazon.
Anyone have any interest in some custom 4 foot lava lamps?
A guy at my Halloween party was admiring my lava lamps and he said he works in a shop that makes custom laboratory borosilicate glassware.
He says that the glass would be much clearer, without the wavy sides and tiny bubble inclusions
He gustimates that a run of 100 lamps would bring the price to around $200-300 a glass.
He also says he'd change the top, so it would take a standard locking lab stopper
