Picked up an unexpected awesome project find the other day. After some tweaks I got it booting and playing just fine... with batteries that, well, they need to come outta there...

...I couldn't believe what I found. I mean there's no real damage to speak of, but check these out:

Energizer... by Eveready! I don't think I've seen these, complete with brown disco-striping, since the mid-80's. I even recall having one of those "dumb bits of useless trivia arguments" I once had with someone who didn't know or believe that Energizer was once Eveready's discrete "alkaline" branding (his argument: "Ever-readys? They suck. Whey they never bothered to change their chemistry to keep up is beyond me because Alkalines make them useless").

Too bad there's no date on them, or I might have been tempted to re-sell it with "only XXXX estimated plays since 1986" ha ha

Astoundingly, no major leakage. Just some crust on the end of one of them. Broke the pad on the holder, but I'll be putting a remote battery in so no big deal.

OK I don't think anyone's gonna beat that one... surprised it's not called a voltaic pile* ! Where did you find that?!

*(always wanted an excuse to use that term in proper context, can die happy now)

Antique auction about 50 years ago. Was in an antique coin operated viewer from about 1910.

I picked up a Flash a couple years ago. The batteries in it were Mallory branded Duracells. They stopped branding them that in 1980 so they were likely the original batteries.
