Quoted from bicyclenut:

I put LED's in my LAH including the flashers. Is anyone using anything to slow down the strobe of the flashing bulbs? To me it gets pretty intense to where I cant even see the ball. Maybe I'm just old.

Sometimes stuffing the flasher covers with some type of diffuser is a must. I have been known to use cotton balls for example to mellow out the flash. Lately though, I have stopped using led flasher bulbs and just insert frosted color matching leds. They still flash great without the blinding effect.

Reseat all your ribbon cables. If this does not help, look at the capacitors on your power board. These are well known to fail after many years and can cause your dmd and game to reset. The capacitors can leak leaving a “wet” look around them.

Quoted from epeabs:

Just removed my ColorDMD LED from LAH and replaced it with a ColorDMD LCD. I like it so much better.
[quoted image]

So, why doesn't colordmd show an LCD version on their website? Also, just joined the club.

Thank you for the explanation. I was about to purchase the lcd, but it has got me thinking if I should.

Quoted from BubbaPin:

Hopefully will be joining this club tonight. Awaiting drop off tonight. Looked it over in person the other day and game looks great. Flippers seemed like they didnt want to send the ball very far. Not weak imo but just not quite enough umph. No experience with data east so not sure.

Congrats! You better look over the flippers since it should send your ball easily up the ramp. If it doesn't there is definitely something wrong. On occasion, I will send my ball so fast up the ramp it will scoot by the diverter before it reacts.

Picked this game up this weekend. Am I missing a left outline post?
[quoted image]

Wow that looks like it was never added. Was the playfield replaced at some point? Should be a wood screw mini post there.

Decided to add some custom mirror blades today. Combined Cointaker mirror blades with Tilt game blades. Took all day but I love the results. I think this game just might be a keeper.

I would concur that you absolutely need the power booster cables. I just installed a pinsound with headphone station and now I'm not getting enough 12v to run it properly. I just changed all the caps on the board which helped a little, but the sound still cuts out often. I just ordered the power booster and have to wait for it to arrive. Of course it might also be the fact that I have a few mods that use 12v...

#2484 3 years ago

Super nice restoration and enhancements. Was wondering if you had a breakdown of cost and expenses. For instance, what did the yellow powder coating ended up costing you and where did you have it done? Did you have a budget in mind? Also, if you were to do it all over again, what would you do differently? I would love to hear your reflections.

#2490 3 years ago

I just added a movie theater in the back. I like the CzTV mods playing the movie in the background. All I added was the red curtain.

Quoted from Nelsonford218:

I recently bought a pretty dirty lah that I'm getting into shape! It's missing the post that supports the front of the clear ramp by the diverter. Is there any way someone could measure it for me or link to where I can buy it? Also, will Lw3 style flasher domes fit on this machine. Blue one is cracked and cant seem to find one. I have attached a picture of the post I need. Also a couple before and after pictures so far!

Quoted from Dirtbike:

Ok everyone. Finaly decided that I'm going to pull the trigger on getting Pinsound for my LAH. Looking for advice on what exactly I will need to make this thing rock! It looks like ( if I'm seeing it correctly ) there are a few Data East items I may need to add to make everything work. Can anyone with this sound system let me know what exactly what you purchased to make it work?
Note - I have already upgraded all the speakers from the factory to new, including an external Polk Audio sub.
Thanks for you help!

You will want to get the Data East Power Booster with your pinsound kit. If you don't, the sound will cut out. Also having the headphone station is nice since it can adjust the volume on the fly and also change music packages if you have more than one in memory.

Cliffys are a must for protection, but it will turn your easy shooting mode start hole into a much harder, laser accurate shooting affair. And it's better for it.

Does anyone has a topper for last action hero ? Thank you

If you are looking for the original topper, currently no one makes any reproductions as far as I can find. I believe it is unobtanium unfortunately. But you can get this one I guess.

Quoted from rapidflipper:

I have a question about how this game should shoot. I noticed that I’m able to immediately trap up every ball coming down the ramp/wireforms. Game is set at 6 degrees with rear levelers maxed out. Flippers aligned pointing directly at playfield “indicator holes”. Any feedback on if your game plays similarly, or setup more challenging?

I have a question with what you mean by trapping up. Does that mean you can raise the flipper before the ball comes down the inlane and stop from bouncing over to the other flipper?

#2700 3 years ago
Quoted from rapidflipper:

Yes, I can stop the ball on the flipper rather than it bouncing over. Most games don't allow this as it gives so much control. Was just curious if other's game played similarly.

My flippers will not trap a ball when rolling down the inlane. If I try, the ball will roll off the flipper and go down the middle every time. However, I can easily tap pass it to the other flipper, or flip the ball up to keep it on the same side. I believe my table is set a little higher at 6.5 degrees.

You mean to put the stern style rails on? Anyone have pictures of those installed so I can see where they mount?

This is where I anchored mine.

Hey there,
Anybody with side blades or mirror blades on their LAH care to share some pictures?
Thinking about investing some money into mine to make it pop and haven't really seen this much on this game.
Thanks!

I decided to do both at the same time. I used Tilt graphics and some old, scratched up mirror blades i had kicking around. I think it came out great.

The top horizontal line on my DMD is always blank - DMD functions fine otherwise
Anyone else experienced this issue that can point me in the right direction for possible fix?
Thanks

The dmd itself may have an issue. But before you start replacing it, have you tried reseating the ribbon cable that goes to it? Btw, a color dmd looks awfully good on it.

Quoted from StrangeSubset1:

Ok, I have this weird behavior of my sound. Doesn't seem to be related to anything that is ongoing within game play.
My sound volume suddenly dropps, and cuts out all low frequency including the sub woofer in the cab. Stays like that for a while and sometimes the sound kicks back in for a bit.
Any idea where to start?

While the machine is off, turn the volume control all the way up and all the way down a few times. This will clean the pot and may help with volume cut out.

So, can I ask you guys a Pinsound question....
When I got my LAH it had a pinsound board in it but I took it out and stuck it in another game as I actually quite like the cheesiness of the original sounds. Now several

Thanks for your input guys, 1 for and one against, im still on the fence. I will probably leave it as the original doesn't offend me

I will chime in and say that I installed one in my LAH and after a while I removed it. I liked the different sounds and music but the original to me is still the best. It is what I remember playing years ago and it is still what I prefer. The only thing that seems to bother me about the original sound effects is the "Let's Play Chicken" animations does not match the sound effects from the speaker. It seems reversed.

I have a pinsound+ for sale if anyone is interested...

Quoted from ShortCorky:

just (re)-joined the club earlier this week. During gameplay, I noticed some issues with what seem like the machine activating phantom switches. The "deactivate smart missile" graphic comes up at super random times. I noticed some other oddities, but this is the most common.
Did some investigating with the glass off and found the right in-lane deactivates the smart missile. I don't believe this is correct.
Has anyone else experienced this or something like it? Any insights on how to diagnose?
(I took a video, but can't figure out how to upload it)

Go into switch test and pound on the playfield. Maybe one of your outlane switches are too sensitive or faulty?

Quoted from JasAce:

Just joined the club myself!! Picked this up today and it's in amazing condition besides all the dust lol. Game starts but says missing balls even though all are in, game has a new rotten dog mpu and sound board too. When I start the machine the dmd turns on then the coils start to fire and a ball pops out then it says push start lol. So I'm going to take it apart clean it and check all switches....this is my first data east as well. Oh and crane dose not turn it just rotates if I touch it as if it's not attached.
[quoted image]

The crane most likely needs to be tightened to the shaft. There is a set screw on the neck of the crane that will lock it in place. It will take a few tries to get it aligned. As far as the balls spitting out and missing balls, that is tougher to diagnose. Check to see if the balls are magnetized by putting them all on a flat surface and see if they like to stick together. If they do, replace them with carbon steel. Sometimes magnetized balls don't want to move freely in the trough, causing the machine to get confused as to how many balls are in there.

The big Arnold is just for display. You can use it as a topper. As for the piece above the left outlane, isn't that piece a clear plastic?

#3047 2 years ago
Quoted from JasAce:

OK and now my dmd just died, I replaced the ribbon cables and check power and all is good...looks like color dmd is next...I hope this isn't something dumb.

Check fuses first.

#3050 2 years ago
Quoted from JasAce:

OK all fuses replaced and sound came back on with everything. The only issue now is when I start it up the dmd shows the version of the rooms I'm using then once it changes over to display press start it cuts off immediately. I have all new ribbon cables, sometimes it does last a little longer but always cuts out.

Might be an issue with the rottendog power board. I read another post somewhere that the same issue was caused by the board. The person put an original board in and the problem went away. A colordmd looks great in LAH so that might be an option, albeit an expensive one.

I found the post. https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/de-last-action-hero-dmd-issue

Quoted from rvermeire:

Just received a LAH and crane is behaving strangely.
In test it works fine and activates both switches.
In game when returning to the left switch it stops about 2 cm before the switch but releases the ball which gets stuck behind the plastic of the lock area.
Isn't it the switch that should send a signal to the coil to drop the pin ? How can it drop without this switch activation ?
Is allen key adjustement the solution ? Also saw that people changed BRs ???
And sometimes, 1 out of 10 it goes the all way and hits the switch....
am kind of stuck on what to do next....

I remember having this same issue. The crane needs to swing in both directions equally in length or it will do what you are describing. I had to adjust the crane one way or the other slightly to get it to perform correctly. It adjusts by a single set screw under the crane that fits on a shaft. Loosen the set screw and move the crane slightly to the left or right until problem stops.

#3490 20 days ago

If all the crane targets get knocked down, it should activate crane ready and move your crane into position to receive a ball from the vuk.

Quoted from Chisel:

Hello folks. I just joined the club today and picked up a pretty nice LAH.
I’ve never played lah before so I’m not sure what is normal behavior but when a game starts it auto fires the ball without me pulling the trigger. Shouldn’t it wait for me to pull the trigger for the skill shot?
Also:
I’m noticing an issue when I lock balls in the crane (2 balls in crane). The DMD says 2 balls locked then does not kick out another ball and the game just sits there. Sometimes DMD reads “too many balls”.
Any helps is greatly appreciated.

The ball should not auto fire at the start of a ball.
