Just joined the last action hero owners club, and having a blast with this game! It is my first machine, so already learning a ton. Regarding the game rom version, does this indicate I am running the newest custom version of the ROM? (Pardon the pin Stadium attract lighting, I promise the game isn’t blue)

Quoted from gdonovan:

Congratulations, you have done well for a first pin!
One of DE finest efforts IMHO.

Thanks! While I've been a location player for many years, it's an amazing feeling to be playing my own game. I had played LAH on location, and recall enjoying the gameplay. It popped up locally for $2k, and I knew it was meant to be! The endorphin rush from my first 6-ball multiball was something else. As far as condition, this is definitely a players machine (6-7/10). Here's the to-do list for reference.

Already done:
* New Balls
* Playfield cleaned and waxed
* Pinstadium light kit
* New custom rom (came this way)

Next steps:
* Install Cliffy Protectors over worn scoops
* Install replacement DMD (current screen has a vertical line, but bright). Paid $100 for used DMD
* Purchase new rubbers and pingulp!
* Consider replacing some broken plastics

As stated many times in this thread. Check your fuse clips. If the game is fully working you may be okay - for now. But just keep that in mind down the road if/when you start seeing intermittent issues. As stated by others you may want to invest in a pinsound for the game. It really changes the game for the better. Here is a video to show you:

Wow, that sound package is amazing. I'll need to make a decision on how far to go with this game after logging some more plays. If another $400 makes it a long-term keeper then it's no brainer.

I completed a flipper rebuild today, and was very pleased with the strong/snappy performance. I used a rebuild kit from Pinball life that included new EOS switches. However because I did not have my soldering iron today, I skipped replacing those. After a few games, the right flipper went completely dead. Left flipper still works perfectly. I’m hoping that replacing the old EOS switch gets me back to flipping!

My fingers are sore from prying off old rubbers, but have to say I’m digging the blue/yellow combination from Titan. Got about 90% swapped but some of those bastards are hard to get to. Looking at you Tar Pit!

I now have my Pin2DMD installed and it is well worth the upgrade. I highly recommend installing one.

Please tell me more about this mod. Is it a cheaper alternative to a colorDMD? How difficult is setup/installation?

#2646 3 years ago

I reviewed the parts/instructions on the website, and it seems like a pretty involved build. I would be more likely to pony up the extra funds for a color DMD I believe. Other than cost, are there any other benefits over a more traditional colorDMD?

Wanted to share a cheap improvement for those with speaker hum/noise. Solve = install a dedicated PSU that bypasses the stock amplifier.

Parts:
Mean Well RT-50B Power Supply ($20 from Mouser)
6 pin molex connector "Arcade Video Cable" ($6 on eBay)

You wire the power supply into the service cable, and then use 4 of the 6 connector wires for -12, +12, 5V and ground. My speaker hum was LOUD, and the improvement was drastic. This mod is easily reversible as well since the stock wiring is untouched. Just sharing in case it helps anyone out.

Personal Pinball first - installed cliffy
protectors to cover scoop damage. Arnold is starting to look sharp!! Also adjusted the spinner and it RIPS.

I was able to score a replacement main ramp for my game. I would call B-grade condition, with some light cracks. Huge improvement from the ramp currently on my game which is “floating” without a broken center tab. Still playable now, but will be much more secure.

I replaced the main ramp today with a donor part that a gracious pinside member sold me for 50 bucks. While not perfect, it was a huge improvement over my cracked and floating ramp. The install was moderately involved, as I took the opportunity to replace rubbers and bulbs under the area. The biggest reveal was how cobbled and janky my former ramp really was! See photos:

Quoted from robotron911:

I never realized the LAH ramp was the same ramp as CFTBL.

I was wondering where those stickers were from! Comparing the two, they are nothing similar. Amazing engineering.

I was in a crafty mood, so decided to add some flair to my LAH with dynamite. Pretty simple project - cut dowels, glue paper exteriors, hot glue into 7-piece bundle. Glued a piece of white wire for the wick, then used plastic to mount over the scoop. Plenty of room for the crane to move over top, and adds some visual interest.

I have a question about how this game should shoot. I noticed that I’m able to immediately trap up every ball coming down the ramp/wireforms. Game is set at 6 degrees with rear levelers maxed out. Flippers aligned pointing directly at playfield “indicator holes”. Any feedback on if your game plays similarly, or setup more challenging?

#2699 3 years ago
Quoted from Scoot:

I have a question with what you mean by trapping up. Does that mean you can raise the flipper before the ball comes down the inlane and stop from bouncing over to the other flipper?

Yes, I can stop the ball on the flipper rather than it bouncing over. Most games don't allow this as it gives so much control. Was just curious if other's game played similarly.
