Just joined the Club! This game is awesome. I can't tell if it's really hard, or my pin-guy app is mis-calibrated, will figure that out later. Woody, I picked it up from ft. wayne and was trying to figure out if it was the one you sold on here a while back.

If you need your laser-fix some first friday, we have one at the PinVault in fountain square, Woody. It has a center drain post.

#111 7 years ago

Yup! It's currently the only day we get enough people meandering through the Murphy.

Anyone else's red-base go stdm all the dang time? I had some funky-ness with the spinner's switch arm being outside the guide when I shopped it. Maybe I should just bend the guide around a bit more.

You could try rebuilding the flippers.

It's probably mechanical and the vibration from the left flipper is knocking the right one loose.
If it still occurs after a rebuild you can determine if it is electrical by turning the machine off whilst the flipper is stuck up. If it drops = electrical.

#142 7 years ago

(just rebuild `em it's quite easy)

Does anyone know why this coil chart lists laser war as having an upper flipper? http://arcarc.xmission.com/Pinball/Stern%20Service%20Bulletins/sb/sb62.pdf

Probably just a misprint.

If you don't know how to troubleshoot a switch problem you should probably find someone who does. Here is too much info on pinwiki! http://www.pinwiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=Data_East/Sega

Go down to switch issues and take a gander.

Moot point, but the pinout with wire colors for cn9 is on page 25 of the laser war manual, by the fold.

Hey pinup, I'm no data east board expert and I don't want to muddle things more for you, but you can use leon's test rom to probe the bejezus out of your pia. http://www.pinwiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=Leon_Borre_Data_East_CPU_Board_Repair

I just saw this too
http://arcarc.xmission.com/Pinball/Stern%20Service%20Bulletins/sb/sb6.pdf
https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/laser-war-not-fully-booting

(I just realized most is this is linked from the first post, sorry if you have been over all this I am a little sleepy)

#253 6 years ago

That will allow you to jumper the board to easily swap in leon's test rom Leon's will just pulse the pia's so you can make sure they are all good with a probe or the light thing.

Is there activity on cn3 on the cpu board? I don't know if there should be, that is where it comes from tho.

#257 6 years ago

you're doing a good job! you gotta be close! So it has to be on the display board somewhere, right? Maybe start chasing the signals through with logic probe? I dunno if you can on the 7180 I think they are high voltage and will eat your probe.

On my laser war the connector in the backbox that runs the backbox gi burned up. See if it looks toasty, its over on the left.

You can get posts all day from any of the pinball parts suppliers. I am not near my laser war, you will need to determine what kind of fastener holds the post down. Usually adjustable outlane posts are machine threaded screws that go into a plate under the playfield, but sometimes they are just wood screw-tipped. Take a close look, it should be obvious.

I'm just waking up enjoying my coffee so I'll do some work for you:

You will probably get more eyes on this if you make a dedicated post in the tech section. Is there any corrosion on the board? Lets see some pics around the batteries.

I'm having a super weird problem and feel dumb. I have a couple flashers lighting when they shouldn't in conjunction with other flashers. I'll figure it out, but:
When I go into single solenoid test nothing happens. I can hit start to scroll through but the solenoids never fire. They work fine in cycle test. I've tried pushing various buttons but single test appears to do nothing. I might just re-seat chips at this point, I am stumped. No other solenoid probs except some wierd flasher stuff going on. Anyone see anything like this? No corrosion or anything weird.

#376 2 years ago

I will give it another shot later this week. Thanks. When I was pushing start it would scroll to the next solenoid.

This isn't related to any specific thing, but I've been staring at the schematics alot. Does anyone know why the three mars flashers have resistors to ground? Are these warming resistors? I'm seeing them on the play-field coil wiring diagram, and they are the only three that have the resistors to ground. Quicker lighting for just those three? Just trying to understand in fullness. I'm off to chase my unrelated flasher problem and try to get single coil test to work.

edit: answered my own question with search. Yes only three warming resistors. No one knows why.

I put felt in various configurations here and there around the hole. I never found a great solution.

Yooooo! A lil pricey but I like supporting this cat. They work hard supporting pinball parts niches
