This is rather frustrating...

Laser kick stopped working. Coil does not fire in test mode. Out lane switch works and triggers the DMD animation for the laser kick.

I've checked and reseated the harness connection on the ppb board. I've checked the appropriate transistor for connection (but not voltage yet).

Lugs on the laser kick coil read 0.000 volts, but the soldering and diode look fine.

I'm stumped.

Anybody have a best next course of action to solve this?

Desolder the wires of the laserkick coil, add a voltmeter (set on 200v DC) and do coil test for laserkick. If you see a voltage spike (goes fast) then the driver is OK. Check if there are no shorts on the wires to the coil. Do resistance test on coil, abouth 4.5ohms probably

Reseat connectors on PPB, i had issues whit bad contact for ball outlane.

Is the coil always hot? I get 0.00...Resistance on it is like 3.xx ohms then drops to 0.

Reseated everything again, and still nothing.

I found the DE pinwiki and will try the suggested TIP and coil tests next. GNR will be 100% again!

The coil should not be hot, if so, it could melt the isolation.

Check 1 side of the coil, it should have 50V between that point and ground.
Other side of coil should not be shorted to ground when measured between that pin and ground
Q2 makes ground to activate the coil, test Q2 or follow to where it goes on MPU board.
I am not sure my schematic is correct, but it is same principe of other DE machine.

I feel really, really, dumb right now...

Of course the last thing I check when there’s no continuity of the coil, and the associated TIP checks out voltage-wise...slow blo 5a fuse in position F9 on PPB (which is for the laser kick, duh!) is toasty and has no continuity

Back in action!

Guessing it’s just from the age of the fuse, and playing multiballs with super-laser kick enabled frequently, put some stress on it.

Well, at least you found it. Always good to follow schematics
Enjoy the game !
