Quick question for the group. I need to replace one of the drop target coils. Quickly looking at the underside of the PF, does this mean I have to remove bulb fixtures and the entire drop target assembly in order to accomplish this?
I have an issue with drop target #5. When I first got the game, all drops worked. After about a week or so the coil on drop target #5 burnt up. When it burnt up, and to prevent other damage, we simply cut the single "grey" wire to the coil. So after several weeks, I finally bought a new coil and replaced it today. The coil works, as I confirmed this by running an alligator clip from the ground wire to the single wire lug on the coil and it fires. However, when the game resets all the drops, #5 will not reset. I've doubled checked all wiring and can't seem to find anything wrong that would prevent the target from resetting. Any thoughts on what I should look for?
Quoted from gutz:If the previous coil locked on long enough to actually burn up, the drive/predrive transistors are damaged. Since the new coil isn't firing via the driver board, the transistor failed open or it got hot enough to burn open a connection/trace on the driver board.
Is there something I can do to test the resistors to confirm they are bad?
Quoted from Palmer:Yes if you have a digital multimeter.
I do, just not sure what steps I need to take. I can do the simple stuff like soldering, replacing parts, and testing fuses. Just not too familiar with diagnosing issues on the boards.
Quoted from canoncitypb:I have some custom decals I've created for the drop targets and the spinner. The originals didn't make much sense to me. The spinner decal creates an animation of the laser cue shooting the ball.
Let me know if you are interested in a set.[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
Interested.

Quoted from gutz:Looks like q25 and q24 control the fifth drop target.
So I tested q25, it was bad. Replaced it, still can't get the drop target to work. I didn't not test or replace q24 (oversight on my part when reading this thread). So I guess I will try that next.

I confirmed that q25 and q24 control the fifth drop target and both tested bad, replaced both of them but drop #5 still doesn't reset.
Also, I hooked a jumper from drop 4 to drop 5, started the game and can confirm the coil works and the target resets.
What else can I look at from here?
Quoted from HamburglarHunk:Just picked up my first ever pin a few days ago and its a Laser Cue! Loved playing it at a local venue and decided would be a good first pin (not to mention the price wasn't bad) still trying to sort out a few issues, but taking a bit longer as im still trying to learn the ropes! Did read through the manual and know how to navigate the menus pretty well lol Also was wondering is there both a left and right slingshot? or is it just a left sling?
1 sling. Side note, the board set used for that game is very bad. If you plan on keeping it fir awhile I suggest installing repro boards.
Quoted from frisbez:They are not that bad if you have working boards. Diagnosing issues with them can be a major PITA though because of the lack of diagnostics.
The 40 pin interconnect always needs to be replaced eventually, and often any sockets need to be replaced as well. If your boards are working I wouldn't worry about issues until they pop up.
Nailed it.
