I need to replace a few broken lamps in the 21 Lamp Panel (Medusa). Which is the easiest way to do that? I don't feel like removing the playfield or anything like that...

You would need 2 people to lift the playfield and put it on the front pivot points.
Then you can lower the playfield (be careful not to crush anything) and acces the lamps in the back.

The lights behind the lightbar are twist lock sockets.
You could even remove them with the playfield in the back (regular) position.

I removed the complete lightbar for cleaning.
You can lift the playfield and remove the 4 screws from the mounting plates.
It's hard to see in the images, but you can see them in the frontview picture.
They are in the lower left and right corners.
The lightbar is thightly slided onto the playfield.
There are just 2 connector plugs to release to remove it completely.

With the playfield half the way up, I could reach in and remove the lamp holders. It turned out that the lamps were ok (#8, 20) but that the contact was bad. After some cleaning, they started working. Position #21 was empty so I put a new lamp holder there.

The only remaining thing is that #20 and #21 blink simultaneously (not one after the other). That can't be right, can it?

It does on mine too.
It also does this in the VPinmame emulation.
