Quoted from kruzman:wow double rocket tail lights. I dont know if IO have ever seen that!
That's '59 Cadillac tail lights. In 1960, the "broken back" on the fin was lessened a little bit and the the double rocket lights were replaced with a long vertical tail lights.
The Ghostbusters vehicle is a '59 Caddy with the rocket lights.

This is the one that started it all.
The 1948 Cadillac.
This is Billy Gibbons ( ZZ Top ) Boyd Coddington built '48.
The '59 Caddy was the zenith for finned cars. By 1963, the Caddy fins were slowly going away. Chevy put fins on the '57 but got rid of them in 1958, but went with the "Chinese" finned tail lights in '59.
Chevy, in '61 "broke" the fins, and by '61 Chevy was done with fins.
Automotive styling just went nuts in the 50s with the auto makers trying to make their cars look like jet airplanes.

Don't forget about that '58 Plymouth called Christine.
image (resized).pngQuoted from Tophervette:Harley Earl was a great designer for GM and produced many classics.
Yes. Lots of classics from Earl.
Earl was a tall man who could see over the tops of cars. There are inverted ribs pressed into the roof sheet metal on the 55-56-57 Chevy Nomads and the Pontiac Safari wagons. Those ribs were Earl's babies. He wanted ot break up the vast expanse of sheet metal.
He was the reason for the split in the '63 spilt window Sting Ray. Dontov hated it because he could not see out of the rear view mirror. Earl won that fight but in '64 the split window was gone.

This is the Coddington built '57 Caddy I lust after.
Thank you everyone for that tutorial in the caddys. Just wow. The 40's was almost a dead time in us car body design, since all resources were going to the war. That 49 is no bullshit. Justs wow. was that the one where the tail light is where the gas cap is?
If you ever get a chance (and I will be happy to go with you) to go to the Gilmore car museam/farm they have a building that is just the caddy collection. They have the actual caddys from the upjon and gilmore familys. They had a V12 or it may be a straight 12 I forget but I noticed that a lot of the trim and bezels had custom engraving with the family names and crests ect. My doc has a caddy v12 on a stand in his office. The place is a huge beautiful farm with barns and buildings designated for different collections. They turned the fram land in to nice grass and have some huge shows. I missed the big show I usually go to in the fall. Its so inspirational to me. When I was young and I went to the show, it inspired me to make money to buy a car, but now it inspires me, by seeing others that do resto's that I respect. Every screw, time and money be dammed. One guy I always camp out at his display has about 14 mopars about half are number matching hemis including a superbird. I have always been a GM man. My first car I bought when I was 15 was a 68 camaro, I have had a few mustangs and F250's but its always been chevy and pontiacs. Of course there is not one 2023 model GM I would buy, not even the vette (which I have never said before). Growing up in detroit, and a family of UAW workers and teamsters, I was able to identify any car make model and year when I was really young. I gave up in about 2000. So except imports, and some eras of caddys, and some eras of chryslers.
It was so rare that the new model year of any car was left unchanged until 1980. I mean its hard to tell a 67 and 68 chevelle apart except the grill.I do get 68 and 69 vettes confused occasionally. I could go on, but this is pinball.
I do suggest checking out the schedule of the gilmore car museum. Its in either hickory corners, or richland/gull lake (its all the same school dist)
That taxi looks fantastic, I have sent probably 50 people to that thread to see pics of how the install kit makes the nice finish around the things that thread or go in to the pf wood. So I appreciate dave's work and documentation on that one. That would be a great game to own. It looks perfect of course. If you are close to PA, I cant recommend Dave macy enough to do a pf install for you.

That was pretty darn cool of her brother. 33 years. Thats so awesome. I have always wanted a partner/wife. For some reason I have only attracted insane women who mistake me for a "Bad boy". I am actually a self destructive, self loathing, recovering addict.
When i was a functional dope addict who did more punching than talking, I got more ass than a toilet seat. Now that I have 23 years of intense therapy and hundreds of self-help books under my belt, as well as 17 years sobriety, I couldn't get laid in a women's prison with a hand full of pardons. I cant remember the last woman I dated that wanted a kind, honest, emotional open and available man. They all say, and complain that is what they want, but nope. Straight forward emotional honesty and availability is not attractive to women.
The first thing that comes to mind was I went out with one of my new tenants, one night. She had just moved in within a month. We ended up at a bar and really got along. It seemed like a locked down deal, and she says to me " I heard you used to hit you ex". I was blown away to be accused of that, and even more that she would go out with someone that she thought was a woman hitter. She wanted to come home with me, and I took her home and made her get out, I was so pissed. She stayed till the end of her lease, but we never talked again.
Anyway that was prob too much for this, but think twice about getting divorced, because being single at this age (55) is a nightmare. If someone who has a great wife says, try on line dating, kick em in the nuts.
I have always loved that 59 chevy. I think the 60 had the same tail lights? I always thought it was the perfect artistic expression of the bridge between the 50's and 60's, plus its wide and mean! Dont know what motors you could get in them. Only known 1 neighbor who had one when I was in college. Primer black.

I am loving this.
Its so nice to see colors besides deep metallic neutral colors that are on every car now.
That truck is a dream. wow.
I am guessing that vette is a 327 (my fav motor). The ol man had a 66 nova with that 327/350hp motor
Our car in drivers-ed was a 3 on the tree. it was the pontiac version of the nova from like 77 I would guess.
I just found these pics. I forgot who got this, but it is number 4 of 12. This is my nude version from back in the day. They were IPB repros that I repainted the girl. One of the 12 was a restoration.

I found out though I can check out anytime, but I can never leave.

There are the 265s until 1957. In 1957, 283 was the V-8 offering.
In 1958 or 1959, there were the 348s and 409s being referred to as porcupine heads. I was always a small block fan in love with 283 and 327s and don't know much about 348/409 engines.

So I am a pin-up guy thru and thru. I thought the shadow of the couple bangin in the car was too out of place for me. If I were to do a full porn theme then yes, but I believe that pin-up is still family friendly. I still have the sketches of this on my wall in the shop. I had a girlfriend named melinie that had this exact body, which was what I did the project in the first place. I made 12 and sold them for 100-1200 cleared.
I did the art work for a boobie gottlieb Genie that I want to do before I am planted in the ground. My ex wife actually helped with that one. I got a used pf to do it, but its so beat up I dont want to put 75 hours painting the pf before I draw the girl. Then do the clear and eventually sell it for a grand.
Here is a couple pics of nude creech #3 some were hot pink some not, some I changed to hot pink for the buyer.
My steel headboard from when I was studying furniture in chicago that I had to sell one day broke, my yellow zo6 that the cops took, my triumph that I did 182mph on I75 about 40 miles south of macinaw. (1000 cc FI with lotus heads) The black road king the cops took, That green road king was a totaled bike from FL I bought on ebay and rebuilt, painted. My first experience with clear coat. I took a water color class and my wife insisted on modeling, My dingo, Rainey.I only drive that fat boy for a year. It rode better than road kings but not big enough for me. and my favorite truck. Had the CAT motor w allison trans, and air condition. I was the second owner, only 90k miles when the pigs helped themselves to it.
All of my car pics are on regular film, but I had to get in to the P length competition.
If anyone run across a really nice used Genie pf or a NOS please let me know. I had a nos set aside for a year, but had to sell it, since I didnt know if I would ever get to the project.

This truck is amazingly stock, plus the ownership history makes it so valuable. I grew up, taught that pick ups were from guys who worked construction and farmers. we called them pick em up trucks. I would have never bet yuppies, and soccer moms would drive f-250's. And pick ups used to be priced much less than cars. I would have never guessed 80K pick ups that sell faster then they can be made! That motor looks like the motor in the first year vette. I think they called it a blue streak?
I didnt notice the spelling error on the truck for about 8 months. Idiot sign maker charged me like 800 for that job. a-duh?

That green with the accent could be my fav color available at the time. Never seen it. I bought a convertible, and regretted it immediately. I rarely drove without a beer between my legs, and I couldnt stand people looking at me. In my life I have got way more negative response from people even women for having a sharp car. When I pulled up in that zo6 the girl I was dating asked if it was a camaro. I lived in a college town (kalamazoo) and even though they were totally affordable, my vette got a lot of attention, so I was labeled a drug dealer (problem was, I was indeed a pot dealer but that had nothing to do with how I bought the car. you make 5-10 bucks a bag. BIGTIME!!!!
When people or cops whould ask how I bought it, I always said "they sell them at the chevy dealership"
In 1995 I bought an 85 vette with 22k miles for 13 grand. It had never been driven in the rain. all of the part stickers were still on the shocks and springs and parts in the wheel well. whats funny is that car came stock with 285hp (of course I had it built up) but my 09 subaru has 275 hp maybe 280.
Quoted from kruzman:my yellow zo6 that the cops took,
They took it? Either you were hauling drugs or hauling ass. From the other items you have relayed, it sounds like you were scootin' along at a pretty good clip.
That '55 Chevy pick up is super clean. Most old trucks have the bed sidewalls all dented up. The sidewalls on the bed of this truck look brand new.
Quoted from kruzman:That green with the accent could be my fav color available at the time. Never seen it.
It is called Cascade Green. There was a cream colored green on the '57 Vettes that was also called Cascade Green. The '60 Cascade Green was metallic. Years after I sold the car, GM offered up a whole lot of production information on the Corvettes. I then found out that only 65 1960 Corvettes were painted this Cascade Green. I saw two other '60s this shade of green in the Dallas area. The guy who sold me this Vette brought it home from Houston TX.
This picture was taken in 1981 and that is still the original paint. It had a few small road scars but from 10 feet away it looked great.
EDIT: The previous owner was an engineer who was involved with engineering the wings on the Cessna Citation. Quite skilled. This Vette had a tricked transmission. There used to be Saginaw transmissions that GM used. He took a Saginaw 4-speed tranny and mated it up to the overdrive unit from a Saginaw 3 speed tranny. The overdrive was controlled by a momentary switch and I had 8 forward gears with a 4-11 rear end. It would cruise down the highway and I got 27 miles per gallon of gas.
The engine was a 350 with a Rochester fuel injection unit installed.

I thought I lost these pics. Here is a Williams Stellar Wars I did for a friend a few weeks ago. It had some missing paint, but all he wanted was a smooth play field. His non-demanding attitude gave me the confidence to take a chance. It is not a perfect play field. There are some small issues with some of the art but for a player machine it will work great.
Some of the blue around the 4 arrow inserts, below the pops was missing. And some of the red in the red orb to the left was missing. I managed to find two small paint pots that closely matched both colors at our local hobby shop. If you look careful in the red orb you can see some of the red that was not a perfect match; Again, good enough for an old player pin.
The arrow inserts were stenciled and concave. I could not sand them flat so I had to load up with the clear. There are some areas where the saying " if I knew then what I now know, I could have made it look a little cleaner.
Kruzman quality? Hell no. Just a job for player grade play field. It is smooth and it shines
I came close to disaster when I sanded through the clear and ink, all the way to the wood! with the left most 1000 1 BONUS ADV. t was like "Oh shit" what do I do now? Fortunately, I have one of those Hewlett-Packard flatbed scanners. I was able to scan the 3 undamaged BONUS ADV and make a waterslide decal. Ink jet printers do not produce the white color---that area will remain as clear text on the decal---so I had to paint on a bit of white ink on the play field before I laid down the decal. If you look at the "U' and "S" below the insert you can see a bit of a hickey in the letters.

Great job. colorful, fast fun pf!!!!
I was growing 34 plants in my basement. The year of my trial the state voted medicinal (which this was) legal. 2 years later fully legal. My first encounter, and since I have a registered and licenced in my name, pistol in my night stand thats committing a felony with a hand gun. mandatory minimum 2 years! The judge apologized, but...
They seize my accounts and house and rentals. the law is written that even if I can show my income could pay for everything I owned, One dollar of pot money spoils the whole thing. They decide what the bootie was worth (780,000) and you have 21 days to post 10% cash, or its gone. I asked when the auction would be and they said there will not be one, we will keep this stuff to aid in the fight against drugs (dump truck, bobcat, every power tool that has a case, my drum kit, 7 or 9 pins, you get the pic. I ended up buying the compound from them. They had some woman living here when I got out. A dear friend co-signed for it. I had the original and the cop mortgage for a long time, now just one.
I talked to an attorney about getting my felonies expunged since there is a pot store on every corner. He quoted me 10-12 grand. I said F it. I am not loosing another dollar to the system. After it was done I had probation for 2 more years,(which cost a lot of money and meant I had to call a cab constantly for the 20 mile each way trip since they took my drivers license for 1 year,(I was in my living room when I got busted. They take you license and every other thing they can do because they have you over a barrel.) . and I had to have a job for probation/parole, so me and my 2 degrees rode a bicycle to subway. I tried to get food stamps when I worked at subway and they said, "you have a drug conviction, you cant get any kind of welfare".
The law was changed a while ago and now I can vote.
When I was in college I got caught with a fake license and got a misdemeanor for that , so growing plus fake id+ public enemy. mandatory minimums are a trip. Made by populist crooked butt-sucking politicians, with no law degrees.
It really messed me up mentally. I think its why I cant save money, and I piss it away the sec I get it now. I used to be a big saver. Since, I have not even J walked, and I will never stand before a judge again. Its like an 80% recidivism rate. How could anyone go thru that twice? I would blow my brains all over the place before I went thru that again.... but I am not allowed to buy or own a gun
Quoted from kruzman:I talked to an attorney about getting my felonies expunged since there is a pot store on every corner.
Don't give up on that, unless it's going to automatically drop off your record at some point.
One of the best feelings I have had is walking out of court after being ready to appear as a character witness at an expungement hearing. The process was apparently a drawn out pain, but the final hearing was good. Judge was very nice about the whole thing and the hearing didn't take long. Said witnesses were not needed since all the conditions were met and there were no further violations. Judge said it was a pleasure to deal with something like that rather than a trial or violation hearing. Expungement was granted and that person now has a clean record.
Quoted from kruzman:I was growing 34 plants in my basement.
Holy shit. I always knew something happens but never heard you tell the full story. That’s fucked up
Quoted from RCA1:Don't give up on that, unless it's going to automatically drop off your record at some point.
Thats a good story for me to hear. I did write the judge after my probation parole was over. He was very respectful to me, and had empathy. dont get me wrong I was growing dope.
