I thought I'd share a few pictures of my Kings and Queens. I owned a K&Q 30 years ago in my parents home in UK (with a 2001 - sold them both for 200 quid when I moved abroad!), and so when I saw this on CL about 6 months ago, I could not help myself.

I've only been at this 18 months so, first, let me thanks so many of you for your advice and assistance, including but of course not limited to: Boilerman (so much advice on cab restore plus some free parts), Toro1966 (polishing), DirtFlipper (ring placement), Rufessor (stencils), Pinhead52, EMsInKc, MrArt2U (painting).

Here's a couple before I started - cabinet looked like it has been fire damaged at some point.

The cabinet restore was my first attempt, and there's another (not very exciting) thread with the whole process, but here's the key couple of pics:

and cleaned it with Pinsiders advice (alcohol, Magic Eraser, Novus 2). You can see it has some wear so I was very careful.
Purchased the new pop caps, rings, flippers and dividers from PBR, but loved how beautiful the metal posts came out from the tumbler (HF $30!).

Switches, etc needed quite a bit of cleaning and adjustment. The old 75 ohm resistors were crusty and not working (took a while for me to figure out), replaced power cable and ran an earth lead to the door (thanks Clay's repair guide for that and so many other tips).

The Queen kick out was not landing in the Jack hole (all the holes are quite worn) so I bought a metal liner from PBR (not original on this machine) but initially it blocked ball dropping in, so I cut in half and just had on the right side of whole - works perfect now every time.

Two areas that I did not attempt: play field restore..just figured I may mess it up and look like a cheap job so I've gone for the "worn look", and the back glass has some flaking. I did think about one from Shay, (I used him for my C/Fantastic glass, which is beautiful) but again, I think the worn look may be ok (or am I just trying to justify not forking over another $300!).

Overall I am pleased with the machine. It, to me, is still one of the most attractive machines from a back glass and play field perspective, and very addictive to play. I love the features, especially the "random" special if you light the clubs.

Thanks again to Pinside - could never have done this to my machine 30 years ago with no internet, schematic or helpful members (mind you, the machine was only 20 years old then, rather than 50 now!)

Yep, I bought all the caps (two yellow and three red) from PBR. I tumbled all the metal playfield parts - using my $30 harbor freight tumbler with the usual walnut shells and a squirt of Wizards 11020 Metal Renew Liquid Polish.

I did not use KK on the K&Q, I used Magic Eraser and alcohol, very carefully, then Novus 2 , then finally Johnsons Paste Wax . I was really pleased with the results. But I have used ME before and it can remove the "shine".

But I did use KK on a recent restore (Suspense) and was really pleased with the results, and not just on the playfield. Again care is required, (spray KK onto cloth. not playfield to avoid worsening any planking) but I will start with KK in future given its more forgiving.

Grounding: so these machines did not use the earth/ground wire, and also have 120v running to the door! I took Clay's advice

and ran the ground wire to the door frame (others do further grounding, such as the side rails). Check those fish papers on the credit, coin and flipper switches!
