As ODIN says, your decision.
Personally, I think a tidy original machine is cooler than a poorly restored one. 
Whereas a nicely restored one can be a work of art, if done to a high standard.
Don’t underestimate the amount of work and skill required to do it properly. KISS is a cool pin, it wants to be done nicely.
I did a thread a while back on one I did, check it out and see if it’s something you want to take on.
