Hello everyone!
I’m a newbie and just purchased a kiss Bally 1979! Very excited.
My dilemma is that, I bought it knowing it was painted over in latex paint. It was obvious because the white section of the cabinet was yellow and the paint on the entire cabinet was to textured and shiny.
I did some research and decided I wanted to make it back to original. I started with denatured alcohol. Wasn’t strong enough. Then to xylene, a little stronger but wasn’t really working great. So I then got some motsenbockers lift off that everyone seems to recommend. It worked very well and I was able to remove all the latex paint of with just half a bottle.
Now, my dilemma is do I leave it as is? Or should I sand it down and use stencils to make it looking nicer. As of now the head is in great condition paint wise, maybe that’s why it was never repainted. But the cabinet is a little hurting. Not really sure what I should do. I not afraid to disassemble it even though I’ve never done a restoration before.
I purchased the stencils and paints (allis chalmers Orange, white, black etc.)
I’m not doing it for resale value, just not sure what to decide.
Any replies would be greatly appreciated.
I’ve included pictures of the before and after removal of the latex paint.

I am and I am not.
I guess I just wanted to know what opinions others have that do their restorations.

That’s some awesome work! Very nice.
I see what your saying about the amount of work it takes.
Maybe a touch up restoration? (Go over the cabinet graphics)

Hello guys,
With the help of the information on this forum I decided to restore and repaint my KISS Bally pinball I bought a month ago. So much great information on here. I think for my first pinball restore it came out pretty good! Took about 3 weeks to do. Learned a lot. I include some before and after photos!

Thanks a lot! Was a fun project

Thanks
I did a combination of acrylic paint touch ups and decal insert overlays. Then topped it off with a play field protector.

Thanks a lot
Yeah not half assing it and doing it right was definitely the way to go. Plus doing a complete tear down of the pinball i learned a lot about the mechanics of this machine. Being my first pinball, i now feel comfortable working on my own pinball if any issues ever arise. Definitely a great learning experience!
