This one ? Or the older Illinois Pin Ball one ?

Big difference in quality. I haven't heard anything bad about the PPS new one.

Mine was an actual translite from the late 90s. Quality wasn't terrible but I probably wouldn't have used it in a machine. The new PPS backglass looks amazing.

    Total BS.

The IPB version was superb unless you got a second. One of the best reproduction backglasses ever made. Just like the IBP Kiss playfields were.

I still have one as well as an NOS and you cannot tell them apart unless you really know what to look for.

I'm not saying that the new PPS ones are bad either (because I don't purely rely on what I've "heard" and prefer to judge for myself). All I know is the IPB Kiss backglasses were awesome as long as you didn't buy a second or a reject off some crook on eBay.

Shay announced recently he was going to make one. If you don't mind waiting a mystery amount of time, that is another option.

    His are always top quality.

I bought one of the IPB glasses off of Ebay many years ago. Would you care to detail what to look for to determine if it's a reject? I recall mine looking fine.

Wish I'd bought one of the IPB pfs when they were $400 on Ebay! I kept putting it off..

All the backglasses purchased direct from IPB were correctly classified as 1st quality or 2nds. All the backglasses and playfields I purchased direct from Gene were super-nice but like any manufacturing process, there are always a percentage that have various issues - some more severe than others. CPR classifies their stuff as Gold, Silver and Bronze level. Golds are the best, silver have a some flaws, and bronze have more severe flaws. They probably have a few that they just scrap too.

It was only after all the 1st quality Kiss backglasses were long gone from IPB that we started seeing a bunch of left-overs come up for sale on eBay. A few were probably from people who purchased 1st quality parts from IPB and decided to flip them but the majority were guys who bought all the leftover 2nds and other rejects from IPB for cheap and then sold them on eBay not mentioning that they weren't 1st quality. The playfields were the same way. Unless you got one direct from IPB the chances were that you were buying a 2nd (or worse).

I bought like 6 or 8 Kiss playfields direct from Gene whe they were still in stock and I returned a couple because they were too warped for my liking. He replaced them for me but I highly doubt the ones I returned were thrown in the trash. These were the type that ended up on eBay for $400. The 1st quality playfields were $600+ each direct from IPB. I still have the receipts here somewhere. I bought even more Eight Ball Deluxe playfields from IPB back when they were fresh. You'll see some people on here who like to bash IPB but they made some pretty-good stuff. I still have one IPB Kiss playfield and a backglass and a IPB Eight Ball Deluxe playfield too. I'll use them someday. They are excellent reproductions.
