KBA YOU DA MAN!

Thank ya sir! I went ahead and ordered the set. Figured it was $100 dollars cheaper and I can always use an extra set just in case. Plus, Stern never contacted me and I would feel better knowing the plastic piece is there to help protect those exposed wires.

I’m hoping there’s no difference in plastics between the Pro and Premium. Can’t thank you enough for the heads up. I googled like crazy trying to find somebody who may have had it and I missed this company.

#1952 80 days ago

Cool, glad you secured it.

Fellas,

Does anyone know where I can get a shooter rod for this knob?

My brother gave me this Starchild knob, he likes just The Demon on his LE, I appreciate any help.

Thanks guys…

I think you can just remove the regular stern shooter knob and swap it out with the Starchild one

#1956 67 days ago

I used to have the 4 pack from Stern, pretty sure they were all interchangeable with the stock shooter rod

Quoted from Hawks:

Thanks for the fast response Hawks 1st of all… but doesn’t fit, I went to my distributor’s this past Friday and they don’t have nothing that fits the knob, I’ve been checking online but haven’t found nothing yet, and they told me that in de US I can definitely found it, so I appreciate your help fine US neighbors….

So I was having the game of my life and while playing a good multiball, the machine just died. Everything cut off except the dmd. I powered it off and back on and everything seems fine. Has this happened to anyone else?

Finally got around to installing the Aero Pinball Kiss playfield nano topper today - just bad ass! Very nice mod and easy to follow instructions, it looks great.

Next thing I need to address is the POS Cointaker shaker this game came with. It's so violent, it nearly rattles the game apart. I assume there's no strength adjustment on the shaker controller board for this thing, correct? If that's the case, which shaker should I order for this game that's not a Cointaker red tremor or other overly strong shaker? I'm thinking Pinball Life?

any tips on making the scoop reliable with the mantis protector installed?

obviously it's a narrow scoop to start with... and waiting on cliffys really isn't viable... but rejects were sure noticeable once I put the mantis in. I tried stretching the scoop lid up a bit, which seemed to maybe help some.. but any other experiences to share?

#1963 29 days ago

Removed my Cliffy and switched to mantis. I guess I’m just used to it at this point.

#1964 29 days ago

I have a Cliffy in my premium and the scoop is way too tight and I get tons of rejected shots. Planning to remove it soon and maybe install a Mantis and mylar around the scoop instead.

I had a lot more rejects with the cliffy. For scoop protectors, I prefer mantis.

Hello please excuse the interruption.
I was asked today to make some kiss magnetic hinges for a customer (which I haven't had a chance to make yet) But I realized that I never made any KISS armor, and what a great game... how could I have not!?!

anyway I made a design that I think looks good. Available in either white or silver, and shooter plates too.

Today, I installed the Pinball Life 8" Boom Boom subwoofer and Alpine S-S50 5.25" backbox speakers in my Kiss Premium. I also replaced the overpowering Cointaker shaker with a Pinball Life shaker and installed the CapGunTrooper Starchild flames plastic protector. The backbox speakers were definitely a challenge to make fit and I don't recommend doing it unless you're OK with moving things around in your backbox. I had to remove the metal cover from the power supply and push the game power button out of the backbox to make clearance for the right speaker. I also had to move the gizmo on the left with two coils (not sure what it does) up higher in the backbox. Everything is reversible, so I'm OK with these changes with the goal of improving the game sound. Those cheap garbage paper speakers that come from Stern belong in the trash!

Let me tell you, the sound is EFFING incredible now! I changed the speaker type from 8 ohm to 4 ohm in the backbox and cranked up the bass and treble in the sound settings. It's like a whole new game, WOW. I also updated the Chroma ColorDMD with the latest 4.1 ROM and adjusted the contrast and brightness settings to my liking. After all of this work, I played a few games and end up putting my all-time best and new GC score up on the game. It was a 20-30 minute game and I reached Kiss Army multiball and a bunch of other modes I haven't seen before. Such a rush, this game is never leaving. Long live Kiss!

Kiss Army - one of the best modes in pinball.

The SJ can be billions and billions.

Probably the number one reason I still have Kiss.

#1969 7 days ago

Wondering if one of my Kiss bruthas could help me out here with my premium.

So I was playing the game and locked the ball in Gene's mouth. The game did not place another ball in the shooter lane as expected and went into a ball search, eventually ending that ball and shooting out another as ball 2. I said "okay" and I continued playing. Hit the lock shot again and the game did the exact same thing as before.

I took off the glass and noticed both balls were still locked up and I had to use a magnetic extension rod in order to retrieve the balls. I went to service menu hoping I could test the upkicker in the back, but it only showed a demon test for the magnet itself. So here's my question......

Since the premium and LE versions are suppose to hold the balls until the 3rd ball locks is this a trough issue, a upkicker issue or a sensor issue somewhere?

Waited for a loooong time to finally find a great looking Kiss pin and I modded it out, so I'm kinda bummed this happened already when I hardly played the game. Just bummed, that's all, so I hope any advice from you guys.

Thanks in advance

Sadly I don't have it anymore (stupid on my part), but Gene's head is tricky, to say the least.

When you say the balls were "locked up", do you mean they are in the UPPER part of Gene's head after being shot up there by the VUK? If so, there is an opto going bad in the top of Gene's head.

If they're stuck in the lower and never get shot up by the VUK, there may be a bad opto.

If I remember, and I might be off base, but to test full Demon functionality, it's located in 2 different places in the Service Menu. I'll try to find a post via search if I can.

#1971 7 days ago

I noticed the balls clanks around and dribbles back out of Gene’s mouth half the time I make the demon shot. Is this normal or is there a fix to make this shot more reliable/consistent? The backstage scoop shot does the same thing, but that’s because of the tight Cliffy protector. I’ll live with that to protect the playfield.

#1972 7 days ago

Stern had a fix for Gene's head getting balls stuck, it may have been only for the pro. I used to have to keep a long magnet next to the game to fish them out, but the small peice you switch out fixed it for good.

#1973 7 days ago

Never worked out how to remove Gene's head.

I know there are 6 optos, so unplug and plug ( under playfield connectors ) - sometimes that helps.

Yep, they get stuck in the very back part of Gene’s head, like waaaay back there. I tested the magnet and it works fine.

When I first got the pin and whenever I locked the ball it seemed to always hesitate before launching a new ball in the shooter lane. I had to press both flipper buttons in order to get a new ball.

I had a Kiss Pro and I loved it and missed it greatly when I sold it. Got a really nice premium that had the armor kit (not installed NIB) and the topper as well and I love it greatly, but IMO the Pro is just as good. The ball traveling across the backboard is hardly noticeable and needs some type of lighting effect to enhance the ball travel more.

I guess I’m grumpy because sometimes more isn’t better and can’t help but think I wouldn’t have this problem if I owned the pro because the head doesn’t hold balls on that version, thus eliminating this problem.

Let me know if you find the menu on the uptick because I still can’t find it.

Loving the pin though.

Yep, that would be my next step.

When I got the pin the optos were exposed and I never noticed it in the sale ad and when I finally got it delivered I noticed the plastic piece that covers those switches was missing, forcing me to have to buy a complete set of plastics just to get that (1) piece.

Sorry, had to re-read your post. The balls are stuck in the lower VUK and not being shot out. I’m still a newbie on pinball repair, but I’m getting my feet wet.

Oh man, I was hankering for some KISS tonight and played a few games. Couldn’t get any rhythm going and on the last game I went all pinball wizard in the zone! Reached KISS Army MB, several Demon MBs, two or three Love Gun MBs and just blew the thing up. It was a 30+ minute game. This pin is so damn good when you get into a rhythm, I just love it. New GC score below and I also achieved Heavens on Fire champ and Kiss Army champ.

Need to keep trying to reach Rock City final wizard MB, that won’t be easy. Going to also practice combos to achieve all city combos. That floating ball trick across the backboard is just awesome! This game makes me want to take my AC/DC out of storage as it has a similar feel. Just fast flowing rock action! “If it ain’t rock, it ain’t got balls!”

I don't remember who makes them though.

That's it!

Not really into mods but this one is worth having for sure.

Was Kiss a good seller for Stern? Would be great to see another run of these one day

#1987 33 hours ago

I believe it was. Didn't seem very many were produced, though I don't have the exact numbers.

I know after I sold my Kiss Pro I had a heck of a time trying to find another one. I finally found a really nice Premium, but I had to pay the cash for it. Of course with my luck after I bought it a couple of Pros came up for sale on Pinside I would have bought if only I knew.

KISS was a slow grow due to bad code at the onset.
Lyman fixed all those issues and made it super fun about 18 months after it was released, but the die had been cast; there was no recovery.....
....until about 2 years later.
Since then it has been a well regarded and highly sought after game.
...and no, this is not a shill to sell mine. My wife and/or kids will have to deal with that once I'm gone.

#1989 20 hours ago

I think my collection is pretty solid and Kiss is my best game and last to leave.

I like the flow, shots and maybe it is because I am not a good player but I love the rules. Easy to understand but still rewarding.

#1990 19 hours ago
Quoted from Hawks:

Not really, back in the day distributors had trouble unloading the KISS pins they had in stock because of the seemingly unfinished code (what was the point of the cities?) and talk about how Stern had abandoned it.

Quoted from pinballlife:

By the time Stern released the code update that totally transformed the pin they had already stopped production on it. I doubt they will ever rerun it as there’s not as much demand for it as there is for some of Stern’s other pins. And like you, my family will have to deal with getting rid of mine cause I don’t plan to!
