Unless you are a KISS fan I wouldnt. The Gene head is 100% STDM. You will tweak it and mess with it and it goes right back to STDM. Also the premium and LEs forgot the long magnet that you need to retrieve the ball from the demon lock mechanism that works about 10% of the time-the other 90% the ball gets stuck. I bought it as a KISS collectible. Absolutely awful playing machine. I have plenty of others to play.

I completely disagree with this opinion. On my LE I have not had either of those problems with the Gene head, and I think it plays great. Some of the shots are a little tougher than an average Stern pin, but still very easy to get into a groove on. And the most recent code update was fantastic, it takes it to another level.
I am a Kiss fan had a beautiful LE. I don’t miss it.
Gene head was inconsistent and sometimes pretty damn frustrating. The flow should be great, but some shots are too damn tight so it isn’t.
I own KISS LE #50 and it plays amazingly. Other than a node board that was replaced under warranty it has been perfect... a truly awesome machine and an experience in itself! I have never had a STDM from Gene either. This game is NEVER leaving my game room!!!

Sorry you had this problem, but to attribute it to all of the Kiss machines is ridiculous. I owned a Kiss LE and never had an issue with gene spitting the balls out SDTM. NEVER. I don't believe it was luck either. The reason I sold the game was because at the time the code sucked and had been abandoned.

Read people’s suggestions,
Loosened screws on gene head and twisted a little also messed with a couple settings. It’s not perfect but it’s 75% better with sdtm shots now.
And I would expect it to burn me with one down the middle once in a while, it’s part of the game.
If machine is leveled out pretty good ,
The right ramp is easier to hit and less sdtm. That’s been my experience with my machine.
When I first got machine I was playing with original code for a week til I updated to the latest. It made a huge difference.
I still feel this machine deserves a higher ranking, it’s fun , fast , great lighting fx and personally I like the music.

I've had my premium for a couple months now with zero problems. Gene only spits the ball SDTM about 10-20% of the time and there's a 2 second ball save, so it's kind of no harm no foul. Love the game overall. Fast paced, some tough shots, some easy shots, and a fun ruleset. Underrated in my opinion.
Since I had a number of Premium/LE owners contact me about the 1.41 "Live" version I did for my Pro, I now have a version available for the Premium/LE.
If you don't like the re-recorded, watered down versions of the music on the game, try playing it with original Live recordings! I replaced all songs with Live versions and replaced three songs that I personally didn't like (again, with Live recordings) -
Hotter Than Hell -> Makin' Love
Love It Loud -> Strutter
Calling Dr Love -> God Of Thunder

Ive had the premium since it was released. Ive taken the Gene head apart quite a few times, Stern has sent replacement parts, etc. STDM. Every time. What other pin has an automatic setting for a ball return like the new KISS code does? They know its a problem.

Have you lowered the Demon lockup setting? If you lower it enough the balls will just fall out of his mouth. Not what Stern intended but much better than SDTM.
The LE Gene head is finicky, but certainly not impossible to fix the sdtm issue..... shoot, give me a weekend and I'll have the thing shooting in the outlane.

I love the artwork and really appreciate the respect paid to the Bally but the backboard art seems a little out of step with the rest. I don't think Kevin O did that part (just a guess)... So, I'm playing with the Alive II gate fold. I think I like it, whaddya think???

I took the plunge and attempted to copy other Gene head repainting. I didn't strip it down, just put flat white and black over the top, ivory'ed the teeth, pink and purple'ed the tongue, blacked the nostrils, bloodied the mouth and tongue etc... but the coolest looking part, IMHO, is really heavy gloss on the tongue and eyes. I always liked how there was white makeup in his hair so I tried to replicate it but it just kinda looks like I did a crappy job, may touch it up. Good chance to add more gloss!

The real trick is getting the drumb set in there so the ball comes drops into the star area during love gun multiball....it can be done!

And +1 in the group of "didn't know my spinning disc wasn't spinning until I installed Mezel mod." Tested fine but never happened in game. Broken solder on opto. Works great now! I hot glued that led right under Gene's tongue so it lights below head and the other one is on the clear for in his mouth. Looks so good! So used to it not ever spinning that I get a little chuckle every time it does!

Groupie here! There is a KISS LE close to me, and i just love that pinball! Its one im considering owning one day. Got my best high score of 171 millions something! I dont think they have upgrade the code, im just able to select songs, i cant choose city, guess its there with older code. Still having a blast!

Has anyone replaced the standard black rubbers with other colors or clear? I need to start swapping some out and I am considering putting on come reds and clears from Titan. Tired of the constant black trails always needing cleaned up. They just stick out like a sore thumb.

I'm basically between the Titan reds and the clears. I like the way the red looks, so I'm kind of leaning red.
On a different subject but same artist, I am looking for a KISS Bally Project machine or at a minimum a blown out playfield.

mine never go straight down the middle from the gene head. Don't let one guys inability to set up a machine correctly discourage you.

My machine is setup just fine thank you. Ive adjusted the angle and checked the leveling more than a few times. Ive contacted Stern quite a few times and have probably taken the demon head assembly apart and adjusted it at least 5 times. Stern has sent different parts they say are better. No need to insult me cause the machine is a complete lemon.
The positive is with the new code there is a save setting so anytime it shoots out of the demon head its an automatic save. I guess Stern realized what an awful feature it is also and added their fix into the code. Its still an awful feature. Theres a couple on location around me and one has old code. Very short games as the demon head is STDM every time on those also.
