So I've and been on this site for a few years now and have come across so much negativity. There are many positive and helpfull topics posted on this site and then there's the "keyboard hero" who has to throw shit into the mix. Why? This is your time keyboard heroes...tell us why you're so negative. Who are you and what makes you so much smarter and better than the rest.

The negativity is fine and entertaining at times but the alpha male gatekeeping is annoying. There's a couple of cats on here that no matter what the topic, they steal the thread to make it about how smart they are and how dumb everyone else is. It's not a great way to expand the hobby and encourage innovation.

Innovation sucks (hello Pinbar!) and expanding the hobby has created the price increases everybody hates.
We need to put a stop to these things for good!

I have an idea.
Pinside could add a filter for when someone creates a thread. Before it posts it could sniff a word like “price” from the subject line.
They could still post if they wanted but first they would be presented with an automatic search result of price threads.

In a thread about negativity, I am shocked that the King of Locked threads is given a pass!
I will say, the “negativity” of Pinside is why it is beloved. Kinda like RGP, people are REALISTIC.
As for the basement threads, people need a place to hang out and bullshit. There’s always that group of guys who show up to a pinball show and drink beer out in the parking lot for the entire duration. Seems weird to me to travel someplace but never actually attend, but to each their own.
If you know a thread is gonna be a cluster, then ignore it. If I see a thread that says “OMG WOMEN LITERALLY DON’T PLAY PINBALL HERE’S WHY MEN ARE RESPONSIBLE.” I know nothing good will come of it.
It’s an insult to women in pinball and dismisses their existence just for someone to garner praise online.
Everyone has their thing, and we are responsible for our own enjoyment.

I resemble your remark. 
Seriously, I most often enjoy the banter and also have fun ribbing others at times. Follow the Pinside rules, don't make things personal or threaten anyone, on the other hand don't be a snowflake, and if/when you say something stupid then own it and endure the consequences.
One helpful thing is to realize that mood is often difficult to convey in a post. Just because someone may disagree with you, it doesn't mean they are attacking or belittling you. I typically try to give the poster the benefit of the doubt and seek clarification (sometimes it turns out they were being a jerk, but usually not).
As far as the poll goes, I'm more complicated than a simple binary choice (consider me a realist when it comes to the optimist/pessimist duality).
