Despite ketchup labels stating to refrigerate after opening... How do you best enjoy this condiment?!

    #2 3 years ago

Mix with mayo, mustard, and chiluha. Best burger sauce ever

    #3 3 years ago

On fries, burgers, refrigerator for sure.

In the fridge. What are you a monster?

    #5 3 years ago

Wolfmarsh .. I love my ketchup in the fridge! Just having an argument with my partner about it right now and thought I’d post it on here.

New to pinside, more to come! xx

Can you find the "refrigerate after opening" on a Heinz bottle? I think we'll all agree Heinz is the flagship ketchup brand, and I've never seen that on their bottle.

That being said, my ketchup is in the fridge.

    Grangeomatic - Canadian Heinz label!

Branston pickles-man I wish I could find those. My mom used to have them shipped in and would go awesome with the Christmas ham.

And the next most fridge/cupboard debate...

Hey.. if your happy to pay shipping I will send you some, No problem!

WTF...I mean if you're going to use all the Ketchup in 4 days I guess?

Cold ketchup is incorrect ketchup for sure, but you gotta make it last.
Not quite as bad as cold butter...but that's another thread.

    #13 3 years ago

    No fridge for mine.

Ketchup on the table every meal. It is my gravy. Heinz is my choice. I keep it in the fridge with the mustard. I don't like mayo at all.

    #17 3 years ago

Always been a Heinz person myself...until I tried Trader Joe’s. There is something sweet about it that I like.

Maybe it's the real sugar vs HFC ?

I like to drive down to Chicago, and loudly and conspicuously slather ketchup all over hot dogs every chance I get.

    Cupboard ketchup.

Fridge space to important for the big ketchup squeezer to take up real estate

If I ever make it out to visit you, which I really hope to do someday, the first thing I'm doing when your back is turned is putting your ketchup in the fridge, where it belongs lol.

My favorite. It is a very different recipe than the USA Heinz. Sweeter taste to it.

I loath cold ketchup. I buy the smallest size and keep it in the pantry and replace regularly. great thread !

Cold ketchup on a hamburger? Now that’s blasphemy! I buy the smallest bottles of Heinz when I know I’m going to grill. When it’s over, throw out the opened one and store the unopened in the cupboard. The stuff ain’t that expensive. Same with other condiments.

The ketchup adds some additional flavor to the smoke! Sweetens it up. Mustard is too strong. Ha ha ha

Ketchup or Catsup is the real question!

    Mushroom Ketchup

For my entire childhood / adolescence i thought ketchup belonged in the cupboard. Never read the label nor thought about it. That is where my mom kept it. I dont know when i realized the label said to refrigerate. So thats where i keep it today but dammit i like my ketchup warm. I’m stealing back the day and putting it in the cupboard.

Ketchup in the fridge, because I like the contrast of cold ketchup on hot fries.

Ketchup is for kids throw that shit out.

Ok, I stand corrected. That used to be my go-to argument. Guess I can’t use it anymore. I checked my ketchup, and yep. Fridge. Maybe it was the glass bottles (like the ones that would sit out on tables for days in the diners).

    Maybe I’m just getting old....sigh...

    Obviously refrigerate.
Now here’s one I’ve seen hotly debated: steak sauce - refrigerate or no?

I recall the CEO of a tech company using ketchup as a reason to hire people from different backgrounds. Someone who keeps ketchup in the fridge might use mustard or mayo when the ketchup is out. People who store their cupboard in the pantry might use oil or vinegar instead.

We go through ketchup pretty quick in our house and fine restaurants everywhere leave it on the table, so yep we leave it in the pantry.

Just not a fan of cold ketchup.

What’s funny is Ive almost starated a post on this very question.

Another is leaving butter out of the fridge?

Or even double de-turding shrimp? I mean, butterflied shrimp are great, but go the extra mile and go completely turd free.
