Godzilla has to be his next title,We all ready know Stern has the licence because they out bid, stole,or made a better offer then Spooky did.(however one wants to look at it}. Jaws is just a inside joke thing that stern says and my guess will never be made.

I heard its going to be My Little Pony

I can’t wait to hear that same joke for another 40yrs

It comes and goes in cycles doesn't it?

Significant details that the two Elwin games have in common:
3+ flippers.
No scoops. (not counting the underworld under the center ramp in the premium model of Iron Maiden)
Up posts.
No backhandable ramps, unless you count the jump ramp on Iron Maiden.
The pro model has little in the way of toys. (probably due to the fact that more-than-2-flipper-games have a higher bill of materials)
More than two ramps. (counting the jump ramp on Iron Maiden)
Neither have the typical "plunge to the top" skillshot.
A shot through the pop bumpers.
A captive ball.

You can backhand the T-rex ramp but certainly not easily.

It's Jaws or Godzilla. I'm guessing Jaws.

Could be!

Really? My understanding is Black Panther’s gross box office was the highest of any Marvel films except Avengers.

I'm not sure Black Panther is as timeless as some of the other Marvel characters. Prior to the MCU movies, not many people knew much about Black Panther. There was a readers poll done by CBR in 2006, where Black Panther rated 44 on the list of most popular Marvel Characters. In terms of popularity, he was behind Shadowcat, Multiple Man, White Queen, Iron Fist, She-Hulk, Sub-Mariner, Nova, Power Man, and Princess Powerful.

No one knew who the Guardians of the Galaxy were before 2014. Doesn't seem to matter.

#59 3 years ago

I think they are just trolling the crap out of the hobby with Jaws, like with the new shirt.

I heard godzilla....but movie was pushed to May 2021, so I would think a different game would release before or on CES 2021.

#60 3 years ago

I still think that revisiting an early eighties skateboarding theme with all the era-appropriate (and theme appropriate) music would be a winner. Yes, yes, I know... Radical exists... but its a winner theme for a brand new pin right now.

Does anyone else think Keith’s comment was short for “Keith ,Your kicking ass now we’re going to cut your budget because it will sell reguardless”

Nope. I don’t believe the narrative, sorry.

Black Panther could be interesting as a theme, bringing in some diversity while staying safe with a comic book theme of a blockbuster movie. At the same time, I watch that movie and I don't really know what about it would translate well to a pinball machine. I've never read the comics, so maybe there is a ton more to him that could translate to a pinball machine.

I wonder how Elwin would feel about creating a new Archer. If it's even possible for him to start fresh considering Iron Maiden. It's a theme he was passionate enough to homebrew a game around. I think it's still a great theme potential.

Sorta similar, I'd love to see him make a good South Park game if he's interested in that. The SEGA SP blows but still kills on location. What if it was a good game?

South Park or Beavis/Butthead would be two of the only themes I could think of that would be a hard pass for me personally. The callouts I just couldn’t deal with at home over and over and over.

I would think with how many episodes, there could be a plethora of call outs to rotate. I think Spooky was doing that with RnM?

Beavis and butthead would be decent timing with the show coming back. and with Elwin's game of Archer, he knows a thing or two about lewd humor

Sure. I am just saying it is for someone else, no judgements. Not my cup of tea anymore... I just get annoyed by it. I would imagine it is similar to how some people get so bent out of shape about Iron Maiden music (which is a total mystery to me, but to each their own.)

Spooky also got Justin Roiland to read their script and improv a lot of lines.

Idk how busy they are or what they would charge, but Trey Parker and Matt Stone seem like they would love a pinball machine. It would just be nice to get some of their involvement in a hypothetical pin. But even without it, there are nearly 300 episodes of South Park to cull from. That's 100 hours of content for them to get callouts, mode ideas, and video content for the LCD.

I get how South Park might be annoying to some. But if you don't like a theme then wait 3-4 months and Stern will have something else. I just think South Park would be a good option for location play, has a ton of content to pull from, and Stern hasn't had an "adult" game in a while.

To be clear I think the current show is pretty bad/pointless/meh. But I do think there is still a ton of great material that could be covered since the Sega game only does the first season or two.

I wonder how many times a day Stern's marketing folks double over in laughter at what some pinsiders think is a plausible theme.

I am definitely not a marketing person myself (just a simple software dude) and way more often than not am completely bewildered finding out what people do/don’t like and what does/doesn’t sell.

Quoted from yancy:

Likewise, I see people saying that themes like TMNT are not good theme choices.
(TMNT is a bankable pinball license because a lot of older folk still like it but it still has modern brand-recognition and wide appeal)

With the qualifier I gave in my previous post (i.e. what do I know) I am not sure there is as much of a demand for specifically ‘adult’ pinball (swearing, humor, etc) as you might think. To me it seems that in 2020 the business ‘cons’ of such a thing may not offset the ‘pros’.

It just depends on the humor if you mean on some sort of backlash to the content in the game. (Remember when some people thought Elvira could cause some sort of sexist scandal? Yet no one gave a shit because the average person gets what Elvira's shtick is)

There's lots of South Park content that isn't worth touching with a ten foot pole, but there are still plenty of great jokes both dumb and smart to pull from.

As for demand of adult games, let me go find the Deadpool reveal thread where people were livid that there was no PG-13 or R setting...

#74 3 years ago

I heard it was Ren and Stempy , to coincide with it being redone for comedy central

That is just pinsider confirmation bias though... Stern elected not to do it, so you never heard any possible outcry against Stern from parents whose children were exposed to “naughty words”. I am making absolutely no judgment on this - I am single, have no kids, and really don’t care one way or another. But if I was a game/pinball designer in 2020 I would probably stay on the rated PG path myself for the marketability/audience-size alone... because that equals more money.

Yeah, I can only blame them so much for going for market share. But what happened to the Stern that made games like The Sopranos?

Rick and Morty is a good data point that there is demand for adult themes (I'd love it if Spooky could audit what people set their swearing percentages at)

AHHHH, didn't realize you meant it that way. Yeah, I can totally see that. Like trailer park boys is kind of annoying to watch now...I used to find it freaking hilarious in collage, but ya, tastes change and sometimes you grow, also with a family I'd rather have things I can play when my kids are around.

#78 3 years ago
Quoted from northvibe:

That is another perfect example for me actually or even Family Guy. Its not even that I don’t find a lot of it funny today... but when you own a pin there are some things that turn from funny or enjoyable to annoying.

And for those with kids, I get that that too. I have a tendency to believe that there may be more people with pins in their homes today (despite them costing more) due to the kids/wives/significant-others feeling like the pins are targeting them too. This could be dead-wrong but it sure seems Stern has figured out exactly how to sell these things and who to sell them to.

Anyone else hearing Avengers?

I'd have to assume they take the comic book route like they did on Deadpool, but with Zombi Yeti on art it could be cool.

Completely agree, but it makes more sense than a brand new Avengers machine (to me anyway...for the record neither make sense).

There are rumours going around about Godzilla. I think maybe Godzilla is a code name for Keiths next game? Same as Jaws was the codename for Jurassic Park. Kaneda was saying Queen a few weeks ago. Now Kaneda is saying announcement this Friday from Stern.

Maybe Keith is next?

#87 3 years ago

As we speculate I’m guessing Godzilla might reference the biggest theme out there, Harry Potter

Keith Elwin design with Zombie Yetti art please! I hear it is one of Keith's dream themes too. Custom Bruce Campbell call outs, and this would be a must own title!

Definitely the code name for a Blue Öyster Cult game.
