Stern sits on updates because they are selling pinball machines.
They don't feel there is an urgency to deliver the updates.
I started this discussion to get people to voice their complaints with the slow delivery.
Stern might read the discussions on this website.
If we talk about the poor delivery system, they might try to get better with the process.
Pinballs are a huge investment, and we the customer deserve good service.
There is no excuse for poor customer service.

How about the Judge Dredd Karl Urban update?

-2
#53 10 years ago

It would be a cool update.
We haven't got the Star Trek update yet.

#54 10 years ago

Meh. I wasn't even aware that Stern was slow with updates. That sounds shocking Darth_Gamer. You should do something about it.

#55 10 years ago
Quoted from Darth_Gamer:

Stern sits on updates

WTF are you talking about? Seriously. Keep downvoting me if you makes you feel better, but you're just making stuff up at this point. Are you seriously claiming Stern has updates done, but they're just not putting them out because ... ??? What? They don't like you? They're big meanies?

Quoted from Rarehero:

Ship with finished software? How bout shipping PERIOD LOL ...how many LE buyers still don't have their games!?

Sitting on updates means no urgency to finish them.
Aurich:
You are the one giving lame excuses for them.
If you don't like the discussion, don't participate with the conversation.
They are slow with updates...
Bottom line...
If we had to pay for the updates, I guarantee they would deliver them a lot faster.

#58 10 years ago
Quoted from Darth_Gamer:

Sitting on updates means no urgency to finish them.

Not in English speaking cultures.

Sitting on something would imply not releasing a completed product.

Quoted from Aurich:

I'm not knocking Keefer or JJP or saying WOZ isn't fun. But the game is not done. That's just an objective fact. There are modes that just don't exist. Jack promised games would ship with complete code, remember? Maybe the next update will be it, I feel like it's been a while since the last one, but who knows.
So the point is not that Jack's a jerk or that Keefer sucks, it's that it turns out this stuff isn't actually easy. We want it, we want it now, and we don't understand why someone doesn't just, you know, write some rules and give it to us.
It's easy to backseat drive from a forum, and Stern certainly doesn't help their cause with communication, but in this particular case I think piling onto them is unfair. These things take time to do.

I believe there are 2 modes left to be put into the game, Haunted Multiball and the games main wizard mode "Somewhere Over the Rainbow", based off the rule screens released. The code for WOZ has come such a long way since last time at this year and I think there's been around 20 or so updates since then. The last update for WOZ was released on December 23rd, 2013 and 1.26+ is due out soon. The last update wasn't as large as say 1.24 which was released in early December so it will be interesting to see what is in the next update and like you said if that will be it for a while.

What I appreciate about JJP is their commitment to getting the code done for WOZ and how they are open to customers and fans about feedback and as to when future updates will be released. JJP released the rule screens for WOZ nearly a year ago and they have been making great progress on completing all of the modes and polishing up the code. I think what a lot of people, including myself, want from Stern is more of a commitment to code after paying $5k- almost $8k for a game. There's no reason why owners of some games should be waiting 6+ months for a code update or be told "soon" month after month. Some Stern games like ACDC Premium received fairly regular code updates for nearly a year while other games are left without updates for months on end. I don't understand it and it makes me believe that there's not a policy at Stern about completing code for games. Stern makes some really cool games (I love my ACDC Premium) with awesome features but only good code can take advantage of them.

Call your English teacher from high school.

Don't try to change the words to anything other than "Stern sits on updates because they are selling pinball machines."

Record the conversation for a Youtube video:

"Do you realize that you brainwashed me and you manipulated me and that what you did was wrong?" said Darth_Gamer.

"Yes, and I regret it," the teacher replied.

"You sicken me, and every day when I think about what you did to me, you sicken me," Gamer added. "You should be so ashamed and so disgusted with yourself."

"I am, I am," the teacher replied.

Sorry Darth but Vid is right. "Sitting on" means the product or code is finished, but Stern isn't sharing it with us.
"Dragging their heels" is what you're referring to. Producing it too slowly for you liking.

Either way, Stern has lots on the go. No doubt, they'd like to have 100% completed code for all their games too. Unfortunately, that's not how it works presently.
The good news is, there are lots of games available for you to buy with completed code.

Why don't you stick to those, and leave the incomplete new pins to those of us who are a little more patient?

Yes, calling someone derogatory names is the defining trait of eloquence.

Quoted from Darth_Gamer:

Pinhead in a sense of an idiot.

You need to learn how slang works in languages.

"Pinhead" on a forum dedicated to Pinball, is the highest of complements.

Of course, 99.9% of everyone here on Pinside would refer to themselves as a Pinhead.

Quoted from Darth_Gamer:

You don't have a clue with the English language.

I hate to point this out because it is so obvious, but that is not a proper sentence in the English language.

Darth, I've only been into pinball for a little more than a year but even I know that when new games are released, it takes time for them to finish code.
That's the way it is. You have to be patient and give them time.
There's nothing to debate. JJP didn't release WOZ with fully developed code, even though they tried hard to. Stern doesn't do it either. It's clearly not as easy as some people think.
Posting on here, complaining about StarTrek code when others are still waiting for Metallica code, or others who have waited WAY too long for Xmen code, makes you look really selfish and childlike.
My suggestion for you is to focus on the positive.
Enjoy the game for what it is now, and enjoy the updates as they happen.

Not only is this code issue is not exclusive to Stern, but it's not exclusive to PINBALL.

Before I started my own company, I worked for 2 different software companies, and believe me when I tell you that companies release products to the public as soon as it is conceivably viable. As maddening as that was for anyone that had to deal with the ramifications, the bottom line is that not-ready-for-primetime software went out every time. I hated it, but in reality, the cost to the company is just too great to sit on it (yes...this is the right use of "sit on it") when they can start bringing in revenue by releasing.

Frustrating, but a business reality.

Cheeks:
How does Stern solve the problem of untimely releases?
I understand the issue of quality, but Stern has sat on code for a year or close to a year.

-2
#87 10 years ago

I think Stern needs to give us a date for release.
Better communication with customers.
Software technicians devoted to updates.
If they fail to produce an update on a stated date, they need to report delays to customers ASAP.
$5 to $10 thousand is a lot of money.
If you buy a car, the dealer and car manufacturer deal with these problems all the time.

So don't buy them. Or do and whine and downvote everybody who doesn't agree with you, whatever floats your boat. Maybe you can come up with some more pithy quotes from Fox News for us.

#96 10 years ago

These things take time... There's loooots of parties involved. There's contracts to be signed, lawyers, businessmen of all kinds, prior contractual commitments to be concluded, etc etc. Be patient please. In 2-3 months time if the speech update is still not released, You can start ranting again!
