You guys are full of good ideas. Hopefully Kapow is taking notes so they can develop some themes geared towards your rich friends. That's right, in the near future - pinball machines will be worth their weight in gold (WOZ & TH being the most coveted). Only the top 1%er will have them in their homes, what with the new luxury tax levied annually. Only the elite can afford to buy and maintain games. Pinside is long shut down and tumbleweeds blow across your screen. But, as long as you know somebody who stays plugged into pinball and has deep pockets, you should be fine... no need to worry.

I'd like to see some indication from Kapow that future releases will be forthcoming with pricing in the previous Stern pro to LE range, before I'd give away my - best, most "sure-fire" way to become rich, guaranteed - theme for free.

Those options are a bit meh, all of them.

Just do JAWS!!!!

Christmas Story is a dream theme for me. The narrator's writing is genius. So much love for this idea

Yes and not a cartoon version. Seems cartoons rule lately.

Wonka for the win...I'm making my own version but a real machine that dispenses Wonka bars would be rather fun.

What about Bob?

#63 2 years ago
Quoted from s1500:

How about Robotech? I think pinball is good with 60s pinball licenses. 2 big ramps that open up(representing the SDF-1 hands) open up for multiball.

Ha, I said Voltron on Dead Flip comments last night....I'd take Robotech.

Love the chocolate coloured speaker panel.

Annie Hall.

However getting the ball to leave the shooter lane could be chore, due to the existential crisis minigame where you have to answer pinball related questions about your values and existence first, with the ball just sitting there until you resolve your inner crisis.

That's already in Pat's new game...

LOL, good call!

Quantum Leap is another one I'd like to see.

The cards at expo also listed Princess Bride & Blazing Saddles.

#70 2 years ago

I just did the survey and they also listed the Monkees.

Games I would like to seen done:
Rush (the Band)
Star Wars
Harry Potter
The Matrix

#71 2 years ago
Quoted from TomGWI:

Inconceivable

#72 2 years ago

Willy Wonka would be amazing

#73 2 years ago

None, not at nearly $9k for a premium, $10k for an "LE", and $15k for a Super LE.

#74 2 years ago

Murder She Wrote

#75 2 years ago

I still think DUNE is a MAYOR sleeper hit when talking about themes.

One day that theme will get decend movies again, and it will be a massive license.

#76 2 years ago

Willy Wonka is a no brainer

Which Joe knows because it's been a HUGE slot success

#77 2 years ago

I thought the yellow submarine theme was looked at a few years ago and was deemed unfeasible do to the likely hood of a >1 million license cost.

Where do you get the $9k for a premium figure from?

That's not right.

Can I vote for:

"Since we've seen how the b66 launch has been handled, I don't want Ka-pow involved in any pinball partnerships with Stern."

#81 2 years ago
Quoted from Frax:

Ha, I said Voltron on Dead Flip comments last night....I'd take Robotech.

Either would be sweet but they just aren't quite mainstream enough to have any realistic chance.

#82 2 years ago
Quoted from DefaultGen:

Most of the other themes are aimed squarely at old men with lots of money to blow.

Then maybe I Dream of Jennie?

It seems most, if not all of the vote options are preexisting slot licences.

Kapow are just trying to cash in on all the IP they've already invested in. Obviously Joe, being originally a pinball guy turned poker machine hack, thinks there are similarities between the two and the IP can easily be transferred at little cost to him.

Quoted from dmbjunky:

After revealing their joint Batman '66 pinball machine with Stern, Ka-Pow Pinball announced an online survey to vote for their next theme at Chicago Pinball Expo.
They have 8 themes to choose from:
Three Stooges
Munsters
Monkees
Beatles Yellow Submarine
Beverly Hillbillies
Young Frankenstein
A Christmas Story
Willy Wonka
They were passing out flyers at Expo that also included Blazing Saddles but that one is not on the online survey. At the end you can write in a suggestion.

All those titles are B & C grade titles at best catering for aging poker machine junkies/zombies.

Can anyone honestly say they would pay $10k for a 3 Stooges LE? Or $10 - $15k for any of them?

Willy Wonka is the best of the lot, but at $10k - $15k?

Stern, if you're reading, when can we get back to normal programming?

#86 2 years ago
Quoted from cooked71:

Stern, if you're reading, when can we get back to normal programming?

Aerosmith is coming.

I'm curious to see what the new pricing will be.

Guesses for street prices:

Pro: $5700.00 shipped

Premium: $7600.00 shipped

LE: $9000.00 shipped

#87 2 years ago

This one for the price of the next super LE.

BM66 was the first test case and it has done well. Shows how old the major demographic is for pinball. It slots in as a new boutique option but there will continue to be normal programming. Stern aerosmith and star wars have already been identified as upcoming normal releases.

None on that list interest me (and as noted the list is obviously licensed Kapow IP) but as I've posted before, if there is success for boutique themes then there is a good chance other unique themes will get made. Including some mentioned on the forums that I like. It's a win win.

I can see Batman being attractive to a collector's audience outside pinheads just like KISS, Metallica, AC/DC etc. But other than The Beetles, the only people that would entertain the thought of buying a pinball game based on any of the other titles would be pinheads. And I fathom, none are going to be willing to shell out $10K to $15K for any of them.

I'm all for boutique themes, but I think in this particular instance, Stern has to realise that (other than B66), the poker machine market and the pinball market are not aligned.

Honestly, was Joe Kaminkow's career as a pinball designer remarkable? Was his tenure at Stern so successful? (Not a rhetorical question)

#92 2 years ago

I'm curious if Kapow had a hand in making another game would it be a new design or rehashed old one? Joe has made designs before but he has the reputation of copying other popular designs.

Rob, I'm guessing $5500 pro, $7000 premium and $8200 LE shipped

They go $9k on the LE and its DUD time, if its not anyhow, especially if the rumors of Lonnie doing the code are true, that's a HARD no

#94 2 years ago

In my opinion, Wonka is by far the best on the list, but JJP needs to do it. Its right up their artistic alley.

My votes are for Jaws and Harry Potter. Harry Potter is also celebrating their 20 year anniversary next year in June. Its when the first book came out in Europe (they got Philosophers Stone, we got Sorcerers Stone the following year)

#95 2 years ago
Quoted from frankie898:

Many sought-after licenses are probably possible, but very expensive, and may not be feasible from a financial perspective (e.g., The Beatles).

Harry Potter, on the other hand, is apparently the Holy Grail in pinball licensing. Unfortunately, J.K. Rowling appears to be against the idea of licensing her IP for a pinball machine. Even Roger Sharpe has indicated that the Harry Potter license is likely unobtainable.
